Getting some wrist pain

ad

last 4 weeks been getting a lot of wrist pain I have never felt before, Bench press and dumbbell curls are the worst. tried different grips and hand holds still have pain there. tried wrapping them helped some anyone have any experience with this?

Bench - if you don't already - use the suicide grip. It makes it a little easier to keep the weight projected directly down the forearm as Peterwinkle pointed out below.

How do hammer curls feel?

I went through that same thing a few years ago. Not sure what your grip is like, but a lot of people cock their wrists back while benching which puts a lot of strain on your wrist. Try to keep the weight of the bar straight above your forearm, if your wrist is cocked back at all the weight is not above your forearm so torques your wrist. With curls I had an old guy tell me to work on supinating my hands as much as possible at the top of each rep... not sure why but it fixed my problem. I also started to make sure to work forearm once in a while which I think helps a lot.

I normally alternate hands bro. Sometimes I grab a sock and paper towel roll or plastic bag some lotion/jello wedge it between a mattress and fifi that shit nigg

There are a number of traditionally thought of as bodybuilding movements you do in the gym which aren't congruent with proper human bodily mechanics, especially under load.

If Bench press and dumbbell curls are bothering you the most, at what percentages of your max weight does the pain start interfering? If you can get up to a warm-up weight and do reps with that without pain, I suggest that there is something in your form you can modify to avoid the pain issue as your weights go up.

Perhaps it's a slight form tweak like tucking your elbows more. Or maybe you need to evaluate if your wrist position and technique is even optimal? Maybe with heavier weights it is time to use wraps? It could be any number of things. Simply medicating it with something like a cortisone shot (would not recommend) and working through the pain is just ignoring a movement issue.

Until you get it figured out, weighted push ups are a good alternative. As a benefit you will be training scapular mobility to a greater extent than with bench pressing, as well.

eeeee. careful with cortisone. there is pain for reason, and cortisone just masks that. here's some useful into on that steroid for injury use.

Still nursing it but the shot keeps me in the game. When I'm a senior I'll probably be in a wheelchair watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

I had the same problem last year. For me making sure my bench grip wasn't straining the wrist seemed to help. I also had to take like 3 weeks off the gym at one point when it became unbearable. When I started back in the gym I did various light weight exercises to help improve forearm and wrist/grip strength and it seemed to do the trick

Brother I have a reconstructed wrist. I will fr you.

They make gloves with support plates and hooks built in. May be worth looking to for added support.

Try to focus on any kind of treatment that will increase the blood flow to the area. More nutrients and more oxygen will help heal any soft tissue damage that might be there. Also always put a cold compress on it after your work out. Get down the inflammation so the blood flow can do what it needs to.

Amputation works wonders for inflammation..

MedLabGear's picture

How do you recommend he cauterize it post amp?

Pale's picture

Easy, get a pan good and hot on the stove and after you do the cutting just push it in to the searing hot pan. Or if you prefer a clothes iron will work.

zeb0312's picture

Use gun powder.

MedLabGear's picture

I think a good-quality iron would be best.

Only one thing I can think of. If you have a table saw, or maybe even a chainsaw with a sharp blade just take it off a couple inches back from the joint. Problem solved bro...

Same issues for me especially when benching, i use wraps but its my tendons or joints, just sleeping with my hands in the wrong position can be painful

MedDx's picture

Just getting over wrist injury. Seems like its taken months to heal and subside. My left wrist's lateral epicondyle region i believe was inflammed from doing hard, fast hammer curl movements with the straight bar. I swtched to a tricep for hammer curls and its helped. Pronator/supinator forearm movement sitting down, bracing arms on knees has helped too. I used a TENS unit and ice in the beginning for treatment. I monitor it closely now and go light with the weight and takes my reps slow up to the burn....

Gymjunkie01's picture

I actually have a tens unit will give it a try

No seemed like it aggravated it more

Its gonna take some time. Mine gets tight between off days. You only need to use it to break up scar tissue and calcium deposits...thumbs down ya on accident...

MedDx's picture

I couldnt edit in enough time...but that tricep bar is 22lbs...i had the pain in wrist for 5-6 months....its finally gotten better...i thought it was gonna be permanent...good luck bro

MedLabGear's picture

Completely off topic but have you looked into BPC157 or Thymosin beta 4?

Gymjunkie01's picture

No never have

It could be a joint issue because of estrogen imbalance or it could be some weakened tendons. Also, a lot of times injured flexors can cause wrist pain. Just a thought bro!!
