+ 5 Fitness/Cardio Watches - What Ya Got?

ad

Okay Shock HORROR - I've started doing Cardio every day for the past week consisting of either a 20 minute run or brisk walk outside, with a few hilly areas in it LOL I began to realise that lifting weights pretty much does bugger all in keeping you fit and keeping your Heart Strong and efficient, sure its better than doing nothing but still.

I am constantly noticing that all of these bodybuilders and strongmen who are routinely dying these days are usually getting Heart Attacks more than anything, sure its no doubt from running steroids but keeping fit has to help your chances of living longer if you choose to run them.

The main things I am trying to keep constant track of are my Blood Pressure and Resting Heart Rate, I am already feeling slightly fitter and get less winded when running so its definitely working, as before I did absolutely nothing in all honesty.

I've been looking around at Fitness watches but with the amount available especially online, I am totally lost in terms of which ones are accurate and reliable for what I am wanting to measure. I am sure many of you guys have these things and I'm just late to the party - So what does everyone have on here that uses one, are there any particularly good models or brands I should be looking at?

Anyone got one of these Gard Pro watches?

If you just want it for tracking heart rate during runs, I'd skip the watch, and get a heart rate monitor. Polar h10 is what I use and it's cheaper than the watches. I had a Samsung smart watch at one point, but it wasn't very accurate. Ive had the H10 for around 4 years now, and besides a battery change every once in a while I havent had any issues.

Apple Watch here. I really like it and it has lots of versatility with my iPhone.
Sleep score is pretty cool. The pulse ox is nice.
I have a bicep BP cuff for accuracy. Most watches don’t take BP.

I have a Samsung Fit 3 and I couldn't be happier, its DIRT CHEAP like 50 bucks... battery lasts for days, charges in 20-30 minutes, tracks step, heart rate, blood oxygen and sleep. You can also read your notifications, texts and control the music etc. Worth every cent.

I had an Apple Watch for a while, but I got tired of charging it every day and ended up giving it to my girlfriend. Right now I’m using an Oura ring. I’m not convinced it’s very accurate, especially for heart rate, but it does give decent sleep insights and scores, and it syncs with Apple Health.
For anything that actually matters, I use a Polar chest strap for cardio. Blood pressure is just a cuff once or twice a week, usually when I’m bored on the couch and notice it sitting there.

I do have a Good BP cuff and also wrist one, but as you know the cuff requires stripping down to a T shirt in Chilly UK temps and then sitting there to rest for a few mins - it would be handy to have an accurate watch on. I bet looking what happens when you are sleeping is interesting - Does it give Boners per hour reading??!! LMAO

Bodhi's picture

Apple or Garmin are probably the most accurate when it comes to watches.

Wonder if Oura could count that high though…

Wake up to eat, boner.
Wake up to pee, boner.
Wake up to my alarm, boner.
Wake up randomly at 3am… boner.
These are just the ones I remember...

Sleep insights would be elite.

Yeah its doing bloody deadlifts where I can't help but think being fit would make them a whole load easier Lol

For cardio I liked doing 1-2+mi at 2.8-5.0 Speed at Max Incline(15) for whatever time frame, 25-45 minutes on the treadmill every gym session. Holy shit that did wonders for my endurance, HR, triggering almost every leg muscle and my ass looks great; I need a watch I think. I got an iPhone but those watches that match are $250+USD, pretty steep.

I second the comment on a basic garmim. This is what they brand specializes in and has been in the space for a while. If serious outdoors people trust these products out in the elements, they will last a lifetime in a fitness setting.

Edited to add, Garmin Vívoactive 5 can be had on Amazon for less than $200. Does everything you need.

Got a garmin, not too fancy just a standard one that doesn't get too much in way with dumbells etc, tracks everything I need it to do, Vivoactive 5

I keep seeing these mate - does it have BP on it and does the actual watch itself measure BP or do you have to attach a measuring device/app to it?

Tits and Mass's picture

Doesn't have BP but has HRV/Pulse Ox etc, sleep tracker, stress, recovery. I like it for the ease of use, price and doesnt get in way of lifting. The bigger garmins are huge i find when doing dumbells they restrict movement

I have a Whoop. Not sure how accurate it is in terms of calories burned, heart rate, etc. it is consistent and reliable though- for example my 4 mile walk with my dog each morning nets the same calorie and stress expenditure.
I have it tied to my Chronometer app, and then also manually input my BP readings so overall I think I get a decent picture of my health with it.

I personally use my Apple watch, it comes with a free fitness app on it from Apple. As far as cardio, well work the shit out of those legs so do the stairclimber, it gets the legs and butt strong and gives you cardio.
