DESPERATE NEED FOR TRAINING PARTNER! DO YOU STRUGGLE?

ad

Ayup. I am well into my ironwork now. And train hard, for strength. Thing is, I cannot get a reliable partner, which is really affecting my training. For instance, dumbbells on chest day, there is NO WAY I can get the dumbbells to the lift position, you know, where you kick up using your knees? Well, I cannot, as my forearms were hurt a while ago, and I think I am scared of doing it again. So, once I am helped to get the dumbbells into position I can lift my PB's, all the time, and increase too. On my own, no way, I have to drop 20kg's just to manage to get them into position. Something I was told was detrimental to my gains. Same goes with shoulders, etc, you get the picture?

How the hell do you manage without a partner? Or do I just ask for a spot on the critical sets? Seems a bit of an imposition?

So, you guys? How do you manage?

Man,i've had so many partners come and go. It becomes more of a pain n the ass after a while. I gave them all up and train w my wife now. She has never let me down. As far as db goes. Ask a regular at ur gym to help u out w a spot. Just make sure u choose wisely. A lot of people n gyms don't even know how to correctly give a spot. Don't wanna get hurt bc of a bs spotter.

o-O I've never had a problem throwing up dbs alone for bench press or incline.. shoulder press is a little harder.. I just grab the nearest person and tell them to help me get them up.. If no ones around I'll just use a smith machine for shoulder press or go down in weight.. I don't see a problem using a smith if you're going heavy and it's better than nothing til you get a new partner

Disagree on the lowering your weight. You body needs a reason to keep that muscle that you have developed, if you then drop your weights, then you are not giving your body any reason to keep that muscle. I only struggle with DB's because of injury, so, in time, I will get there :-)

You better lower the weight if you can't get them up there on your own normally unless you'd like another injury.. My point is if you have no one to help you then you don't have much of a choice do you.. Realistically your not dropping to a puny weight but you are dropping it some so you can actually get them above your shoulders alone.. it should still be a decent weight unless you have some jack up rotator cuffs and can't even do that lone.. I always end up moving to the smith machine so I can go very heavy if that's what I wanted to do that day

You my friend has just hit my problem on the head, or shoulder as it were. MY Rotator cuffs are f**ked. So, not only am I carry an injury with my forearm, which I think is more psychosomatic now than anything. But, I also have my cuffs! Dropping a weight is my ONLY option, agreed :-(

It's all about the pump and quality of contraction in my experience. Most of the time I can get a way better pump/contraction with slightly lower weight because I can keep good form and focus on the contraction better

Do this too, all about the rhythm and control. This is turn to when no training partner, which is 80% of the time sadly.

Point taken. Though, depends on your goals, and regularity of training heavy, versus lighter I suppose. I really need a partner, I tend to do so much more with one, perhaps thats just me? :-)

I'll take that. It has a hell of a lot to do with the mind, moreover physical strength. Being spotted is more valuable to some than others though. I see the guys with their buds in making zero eye contact, and training, some hard, some just listening to their music and chilling out. Me, though, I need someone, at this stage of my physicality, without doubt. :-)

Used to have the same problem but since training with the wife we have not missed a single session for years now..... as for flinging heavy bd/bells up!.... i gave that long since, .. i like to incline flye with 60kg d/bells and she can load my leftie up no problems..... strange thing is we train 6 days pr wk and have never had a gym argument yet!!.... lmfaoooo.

Love to train with my wife. Sadly, she isn't "into" it :-( A couple that trains together, stays together, so legend has it :-)
