BCAA’s or a Gatorade during workout

ad

What would you rather have and why? I’m curiouS.

i20bpm's picture

I use a scoop of Carbo-gain mixed with whatever I
have pwo, always gets my muscles nice an full or brown rice but I have an extremely high metabolism so the extra always gets burnt off. Not for everyone especially if they trying to cut but it's what works for me.

I use Lucozade with dextrose & creatine thrown in it, that way you are constantly replenishing ATP levels which is what fuels the explosive movements for brief seconds. BCAA's I'm sure are very effective when consumed during training but they make me feel tired and lethargic with the insulin spike they produce. Plus they are basically acid which then makes me feel hungry.

Holy shit, Lucozade!

I dont think I can get it in the US, I've only seen it in Europe.

Unless someone else here has bought it in the states?

kodiakGRRL's picture

I throw a scoop of protein in there and I either eat applesauce out of the squeeze packs or throw some quick acting carbs in the drink as well.

Bulkdaddy's picture

I’ll eat 3 rice crispy treats pre workout. 2 bagels with 20 grams of honey if leg day. During workout gatorade with bcaas. Post workout 16 oz of egg whites in 125 grams of Cookie Crisp.

right now the gatorade is fine, i like the electrolytes...but if im in competition prep i cant drink gatorade due to the sugar

Makwa's picture

I like BCAA during workout to help stave off catabolism. If my workout is going to be much over an hour then I like to get some carbs in me as well. I don't drink gatorade then but I have some vitargo or dextrose powder that I use. I can tell when I need a shot of carbs during workout because it seems like I loose my pump all of a sudden. So if I still have some workout to go and I have lost my pump time to carb back up. Also helps with catabolism during a long workout. Then immediately after workout I will have 50g of protein with 30g carbs.

Makwa's picture

took me forever to figure out what was going on, Then by chance I happened to fill up my water water bottle with some dextrose powder since I had ran out of BCAA and the pump was back.

Bulkdaddy's picture

So I’ve done both I’ve also mixed my bcaa’s with gaorade During workout. Anyone that says BCAA’s and a Gatorade doesn’t help on low carbs fuel you through the workout is retarded. It helps big time. Thanks everyone for the input. If you haven’t been under 10% at the fact under 8%. I’d say you don’t have an opinion.

Both, mix your BCAA's with your Gatorade and drink it while you train.

Ozninjaguy's picture

I just drink water. I think that if you have your carbs/proteins organised, you don't need anything more than simple hydration during your workout.

konig's picture

Skip the gatorade and go for EAA's not BCAA's intra workout as well as a good carb supplement like karbolyn or glycotrix etc.

Have you tried nutra bio. Super carb

Have not tried it personally but it looks spot on. Also I would not hesitate on buying anything from nutra bio, great company. Might have to give super carb a go in the future.

People STILL buy BCAAs even after they’ve been thoroughly proven by science to not do shit? For the love of god, why?

Bulkdaddy's picture

Hey bro can you post the link please? I think they do work because of the fact you have to get BCAA’s from an outside source. Your body doesn’t produce them. So I don’t think it would be correct. I could be wrong though.

Becaause they believe theHype and they taste great.

Dr.BroScience's picture

Water.

an moderately

Why?

The absolute best. Since day 1

Per my experience, excluding water, I don't want anything in stomach an hour prior to my workout or its coming up during. Gatorade included. When not going zero carbs I simply make sure I have a complete meal with easily digesting protein , carbs, and fats approx. an hour and a half to two prior to training. That's all you really need. This new found protocol of ingesting BCAAS intra-workout is completely unnecessary, over rated, and even counter productive when trying to shed bodyfat.

Simply put..
Make sure two hour prior to training you consume an easily digestible meal. Use water during the workout in moderation. Next, Blast a complete shake right after your workout followed by a whole food balanced complete meal no more than 2 hours post workout and you will be good to go.

Im on board there bro. I always had the idea of todays meals prep tomarrows training sessions. You have to eat for gains, which means eat for purpose. Use carbs for what they are meant for. Energy. With that said, some people need more "energy" than others. But i always like to have at least 2 solid balenced meals in me before i train. Preferably 3 but life doesnt always allow it. Ive had some of the best workouts after eating 5 or 6 meals and resting all day and training at night..pumps and strength/ endurance is amazing. bottom line is WHAT WE EAT DICTATES THE GAINS/ PERFORMANCE THAT WE WILL SEE COME TO LIFE.

Why do the pros still drink them? If they don’t work. I’d just like someone’s input. Thanks brother!

I wish I could + this twice. Good shit man.

And I feel the same about pre-workouts. Other than creatine and beta alinine, it’s all useless crap. I usually don’t even use pre-workout. but if I’m dragging, all I ever need is 6-8 oz of high octane coffee like death wish. I keep a cold brew pitcher in my fridge at all times just in case.

Boom

Depends whether the HGH etc is natural or injected..

JamesW's picture

I use maltodexrin, creatine, bcaas, Vit C and electrolytes. All unflavoured.

JUICEBOX0331's picture

I choose red bull and a snickers bar, but I'm not a good example of anything, I'm just legit as fuck.

Sounds better than a coke and a can of tuna in the blender. Taste great But couldn't figure out why no one would talk to me for very long. Guess I'm just not that interesting ?

Tuna pepsi shake, lol Viking posted up that recipe some years back, along with some other off the wall, hardcore tips. I tried it one time and could not do it. The carbonation made the tuna a foamy, frothy mix I couldn't force down. Ur dedicated brother.

Powerade makes a zero carb zero calorie drink. Gatorade has sodium and sugar in it and is actually not good for you to drink especially if your prepping.
It has vegetable oil, table sugar and 21 grams of it, 32 ounce is 56 grams. The other ingredient is table salt. Salt is fine for hydration but the amount of sugar is ridiculous.

Ozninjaguy's picture

..and just for a little perspective for those who aren't into metrics - 21g of sugar is about 5 teaspoons full....in each bottle - might as well drink Coca Cola..only one teaspoon of sugar more..

GYM SUPPS's picture

Hello Sir,

Depending on the body composition, goals and at what stage of your prep you are at. If I remember right, you are getting ready for your contest so probably counting calories and planning insulin spikes at the right times of the day. I am not such a big fan of BCAA as I think the importance of this supplement is highly exaggerated however it has it's place especially at pre contest stage. Gatorade could potentially be effective if/when insulin spike is necessary. However for an athlete whose target is to get rid of body fat, this would be the wrong choice.
So depending on the goals both can be used for different purposes however both not that essential and can be replaced with real food if needed.

Regards

Bulkdaddy's picture

I’ve never taken BCAA’s really. I don’t care for a really sugary taste and I feel like BCAA’s taste like where I want throw up. I never thought about getting no flavor and putting it in my Gatorade. Then again I get them all my food sources through out the day.

5g bcaa + 5g glutamine mixed with blue gatorade !

Dr.BroScience's picture

Brother, when I used to drink crap sugar water known as Gatorade my go to was Blue as well.
Powerade too. That was until I discovered just what "Blue #1" was made out of. "Blue #1" is a petroleum based product. Last I checked, petroleum was not "food". After discovering this it made me yearn for the crushed African beetle-juice that makes Gatorade's red dye. I just figure I would pass this along as food for thought.

Calrizzian's picture

95% of it stays in your intestines/gut as well (blue #1)- shits bad news bears.

Both, of course pal

Leucine for MPS and carbies to release insulin which is anticatabolic

Calrizzian's picture

It depends on the why brotha.

What are the benefits you’re looking to obtain?

BCAAs have proven to be useless if you’re receiving your daily amount of protein through whole food sources ( and protein shakes if you use them as well). I do believe though that one of the researchers said that they could possibly be beneficial to drink during fasted cardio first thing in the morning- but I could be mistaken, I’ll try and look for that info.

I personally drink BCAAs during for the electrolytes, and for the taste- I also add a carb powder (simple and complex) that’s 40g’s, 5-7 g’s taurine, and 5g’s of glutamine (I always add it pre and

I drink a concoction of creatine, carbs, and essential amino acids w/ caffeine (not for the eaas, but for the caffeine), sometimes glutamine as well if I don’t drink it during or post.

To keep it simple and cheep, you can go Gatorade for the electrolytes and the simple carbs.

Sorry that went a little off track lol

Gatorade, the quick sugar can actually do something especially if your storage hormones are on point. But both are good to have, I actually favor a whey shake a good hour before over sipping on aminos during. It just feels like I’ve assimilated things better that way and I notice more of a pump that way.

herpjunkie111's picture

Me too, but my fruit punch bcaa doesn't go that great with some of the powerade flavors, and just too sweet, need to buy some unflavored so I don't look like I just sucked a lemon every time a take a drink.....
