+ 2 Any digestion tips.

ad

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right area. I was just looking for tips on digestion or products anyone might suggest. I've tried apple cider vinegar, many types of probiotics/prebiotics nothing sees to work. I'm just getting very frustrated no matter what I eat I feel bloated/gas or the shits. I feel like my stomach is holding me back because I can't always eat when my stomach is messed up so I resort to shakes a lot which I hate doing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If I were you here’s what I’d do (surprised I didn’t see any of this below);

Fast a little, clean out your gut to start fresh

Eliminate all processed foods and sugars—this will be the key here

Drink water 10-15m before, or in between meals, not with meals.

If you want to get fancy eat some yogurt before bed.

This guys got you covered with their awesome advice but im going to add something that works wonders for me: KEFIR.

Is a strange type of Russian yogurt you can drink, it really helps with digestion and bloating, at least for me. You can find it in the “world foods” aisle on big supermarkets

press1's picture

It depends on if you can stand the taste or not - I bought some a while ago and it tastes awful lol At first I thought it was off until I found out it was supposed to taste like that.

Yuu's picture

Lol i know bro, its an acquired taste, it gets much better with time, you can also buy flavored ones they are easier to drink

Makwa's picture

Definitely an acquired taste. I can't do it straight up but it works good in fruit smoothies.

press1's picture

Haha From the description on the bottle I thought it would taste really nice - loaded up a mouthful of it and immediately thought it had gone sour like milk and spat it straight back out Lol Looks good in theory though...

Fermented foods like Kefir = probiotic. +

Source Naturals Essential Enzymes... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009EXOTQ?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

This is the product I use, and I’ve tried lots. Helps tremendously.

Idk if anyone already mentioned it, but have you tried betaine HCL?

When making a statement such as this , it is always beneficial to know exactly what you are consuming on a regular basis.

Rusty recommended digestive enzymes...they are worth a try!

Sounds like your lactose intolerant. If your getting a stomach ache I'd get checked for gallstones. I agree with Greg water and fiber are very important. Fatty meats can also digest slower than lean white meats.

Sounds like your lactose intolerant

My wife recently figured out she was lactose intolerant. Once she cut it out, her whole life changed. No more digestive problems. It’s mkre common than you think. Certainly worth a try.

Brian Shaw stated that free range meats and eggs digest much easier in his body vs regular grocery brand meats and eggs.

When I heard this I gave it a shot myself, and have found in fact that it is true for me - when eating free range meats, it feels as if it passes through the digestive tract more efficiently, in a ‘cleaner’ fashioned, reducing bloat and gas. Also allowing you to eat more frequently and get more protein!

Best of luck.

I assume you are talking about his video showing him eat his 8 half tonne meals throught the day! Lol I mean the amount of food that guy can put away in each sitting is unbelievable - each meal has 500g mince in it. No wonder he's just so damn heavy and strong...Nice guy with it though.

Greaki's picture

Free range, grass fed. Animals that are not pumped with excess hormones. Can be bought in certain stores or directly from the farmer depending on where you’re located. Now I am in no way a meat expert, toxicologist, or a farmer, lol. But hey if it worked for Brian Shaw I thought I’d give it a shot.

I understand this is a completely debatable topic.

fusebox's picture

Depending on where you're located it shouldn't be too difficult to locate a farmer that raises the beef he is talking about. I do and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying in the store and most of the time depending on how they finish them. ( Finish them as in the final stages of raising them aka plumping them up before the actual finish). They are ten times better than store bought.

Good tip I'm going to try it.

Thanks everyone that took the time to reply to this. I'm going to take the advice that was given here and apply it.

giardap's picture

Take a few months off of any sugar or simple carb. Use only fibrous carbs.
Analyse everything for sugars and hidden sugars. Use only whole foods as much as humanly possible.

Greg's picture

More water, more fiber, still more water, look up irritable bowel syndrome, and drink more water.

Bearded_muscle's picture

You try psyllium husk? How much fiber do you take in?

GrowMore's picture

^^^ this guy knows!

Bearded_muscle's picture

I do 7 grams a day since that’s the documented dose that improves cholesterol values, but it’s so important with the volume of food we take in. Only takes a few days for your body to adjust and it really helps keep everything moving.
And not all fiber is created equal. IMO psyllium is the best.

GrowMore's picture

I don’t think I’m anywhere near that, even with all the fibrous food I eat. I’ll look into it.

press1's picture

I find it Very strange that you get the bloating & gas from food and not the protein shakes?! You can't be lactose intolerant then - maybe your stomach has got too use to the shakes rather than whole food so it is now preferring them OR too many spicy foods etc that you don't realise you are consuming and they are disturbing your stomach acid PH balance....

Greg's picture

If he's on cycle, not drinking enough, odds are he has IBS which has very similar symptoms to lactose intolerance. And Jay is right, most high quality protein powders add digestive enzymes -AND, they are liquid.

DRINK MORE WATER

fusebox's picture

And Jay is right

That is a phrase I never thought I'd see you type

Greg's picture

I'm not proud, I'll give credit where credit is do no matter what the source.

press1's picture

It depends on the quality of the blend and manufacturer, its the inferior blends that contain digestive enzymes to help with the concentrate and basic milk proteins they contain. Shakes like I use that are pure 97% + Isolate and lactose free don't contain enzymes as they don't need to.

Greg's picture

That is completely untrue.

The reason the enzymes are added by high quality makers of protein is because the shakes pass through the section of your digestive faster than the protein can be absorbed. (about 1.5 hours)

The maximum rate that whey protein can be absorbed is about 8-10 grams per hour. But, that only allows for 15 grams to be absorbed. Adding the enzyme improves absorption dramatically. That is why a shake will max out a serving as being about 20 grams. Adding more scoops is just a waste.

https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1550-2783-5-10

press1's picture

That test was performed using an 85% concentrate and 6% lactose whey shake - not 97% Isolate and 0% lactose shake hence the need for a digestive enzyme as the concentrate does not go straight into the blood like Isolate does and needs help to be quickly broken down.

Greg's picture

it's the inferior blends that contain digestive enzymes to help with the concentrate and basic milk proteins they contain.

Your comment is still "untrue" (more at, disingenuous and unfair) in that your "Standard" is way higher than the average person on this site, and it does not invalidate the study.

Cheap, "inferior" protein is not pure and does not contain enzymes and may also contain soy.
Quality proteins do contain enzymes.
Your "high end" $20 per pound protein may not contain enzymes, but it doesn't mean by taking them you might be able to up your 30g serving to 35g without waste.

I saw your retort to Jay as a needless attempt to discredit him, by using "inferior" to describe proteins like ON.

I'll recant my comment that yours was "completely untrue" to be, "Mostly misleading".

press1's picture

Jay also sent me a PM completely out of the blue a few weeks ago telling me that all the gear I use is rubbish and felt the need to discredit certain favourite brands that I use, hence the unfondness I have for him.

press1's picture

Woah this is nuts!! Lol I've only just seen this. What are you on about changing my avatar? I've changed it once in the whole year I've been here. Good riddance Internet weirdo....

fusebox's picture

I don't normally reply to banned members but I think you should take your own advice where ever you may be Jay.

press1's picture

The funniest part is at the end where he tries to intimidate me with scary mind games Lol - the clown can't even do that well. Wonder who he's boring to death now on other message boards....

fusebox's picture

He couldn't get out of his own way. One second he was good and the next he's typing a page long manifest that no one read. It only took Greg three months to train him to write using paragraphs and punctuation.

press1's picture

The Isolate protein I use is $13 per pound, do people class that as expensive?

Greg's picture

Don't know, you haven't shared the brand name of the protein you're using. My $20 per pound is a guess based on a brand I'm familiar with.

Christophany's picture

Solid advice. I often use bromelain and it seems to work well.
