+ 1 Frustrated.....Injury

ad

I love to push my workouts. 6 months ago I could run like a deer as fast as I wanted and not any problems unless I got in to workouts beyond 3 hours. I would get a little sore then. I have a knee injure defined as degenerative cartilage and oestoarthritis. I can handle the arthritis part because once I get my body warm it seems not to give me any big issues. However, the degenerative cartilage in the left knee, lateral miensiscus between the joints gives me pain with about anything I do. Football has caused 3 arthroscopic surges in the same knee, so I know what I should and should not feel when I am active. I have had a cortisone shot and when it did not work, they gave the the gel one shot. I am not sure what the next step is, but has been 4 months dealing with this issue and it is so elongated I am getting frustrated. I can't seem to heal and get past the pain. The only thing that even gets it tolerable is a joint support formula (over the counter) and fish oil, but still not enough to suppress the pain enough to help me workout and cut BF%. I have gained 2%bf during this time and still trimming my diet. I just wanna get back to where I was 6 months ago, I can deal with minor issues. If anyone has any ideas of anything that would help my cartilage heal, please let me know.

I think you should care about you knee and keep calm because you don't know how this thing will turn out.

Sorry you’re dealing with this, but it’s part of life for many of us. I’ve been through many surgeries and need at least one more.
I do everything to keep surgery at bay, but it’s inevitable.
For most problems, supplements just won’t cut it or any other Meds. My advice would be to determine how much pain you’re wiling to live with. If you’ve had enough, research and find a good surgeon. Good ones make all the difference. Best of luck.

ive chilled out on heavy activity for a little bit, but it is frustrating. I need to do cardio...lol It seems the pain is easing, but i have not pushed it any at all. I am hoping it is just time that it takes to get it tolerable. Such a setback on all the hard work this winter. Drives me nuts.

Exercise keeps me going and helps with my overall pain levels. I know what I can and can’t do and stick to that. Being sedentary usually exacerbates things, so make a goal to get moving again. Take it slow and leave your pride at the door. Very good luck to you and keep us updated.

Yeah, that pride is something else to control for sure.....lol Anyway, I have researched and came to the conclusion you have to be somewhat active and limit yourself. Just part of rehabilitation I suppose.

only thing I have found that helps so far is the fish oil and a joint supplement that has all the proper doses of glucosamine and chondroitin, msm, and a few other ingredients. It seems to do better than the cortisone or gel shots the doctor has given me. I keep researching trying to find something that will help the healing of what I believe is the root of the injury(cartilage).

since I turned 30 I have one injury after another.
Don't be frustrated, make breaks and take the time u need to recover!

Ignoring a injury or train despite pain makes it all only worse.

Try TB500 or even low dose Nandrolone, I will not recommend u any roids but Deca helped a lot guys I know to get painless.

+2 because it’s going to get worse for you. 30s lol your still in your prime.

Lol isn't that the truth.. wait for your 40's

stairmaster's picture

I hope not, last year elbow. Now shoulder , stomach and since a few days my right hip make probs!

Yes mid 30s I hope I'll reach my 40th birthday LOL

It isn’t so bad. I’m mid 20s and last year knee surgery, then torn right labrum, then knee fracture, now just possibly made the tear in my left worse.

I’ll b lucky to see my 30s at this rate lol.

What’s ur opinion on high rep training to strengthen connective tissue? Like 50-100 reps. Gave it a try today and seems to not aggravate anything just not sure how effective it is.

Abstract
Mechanical loading is paramount in regulating both the anabolic and catabolic activities of articular cartilage chondrocytes, essential for the matrix to retain its functional integrity. We have identified thymosin beta(4) as a putative mechanically regulated gene that may mediate load-enhanced synthesis and activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) 2 and 9 in articular cartilage. The objective of this study was to confirm the mechanical regulation of thymosin beta(4) and determine its effect on cartilage chondrocyte MMP production. Thymosin beta(4) mRNA expression, analysed by quantitative PCR, revealed a significant 20-fold increase in cartilage loaded for 10 min which was still evident after 30 min of loading. Treatment of primary chondrocytes with 2 and 4 micro x ml(-1) thymosin beta(4) peptide for 4 h significantly increased pro-MMP 9 expression and activation. We postulate a functional role for load-induced thymosin beta(4) in modulating the cytoskeletal organization of articular cartilage chondrocytes to affect MMP expression.

I will be reading the abstract, but from what I can understand the cartilage does not have any blood vessels and is only healed through an increase of chondrocytes. However, activity is the only thing that increases chondrocytes and when you are sitting still your chondrocytes does not increase. But it appears the TB500 shows a significant increase in chondrocytes during activity if I read the abstract right, which should help the healing process of the cartilage, I am not sure about rebuilding, but seems to increase the expression and activation of chondrocytes, which I assume would help repair what you have. I am not sure if you can rebuild more cartilage, however hgh may or may not do that, thats a whole different conversation. But if the tb500 can heal what I have I would be ecstatic, a little diet to drop a few more pounds on top of the pounds I dropped I would be good....:):):)

I will be reading the whole study to figure out exactly how well it done in cartilage repair and this is a published study from one of the best sites you can obtain information. It should be spot on. Thanks for the info....

Once we reach a certain age we have to adjust. Hammer that upper body, Don’t even think about legs for six months or a year. Then revisit it. If you are only able to have a great upper body in your 50s then so be it. You also have to consider quality of life. Do what you can safely but don’t cripple yourself.

I have pretty natural lower body that is muscular, more so than ones that hit their legs every week, genetics I guess. But thats the only thing I have came up with so far is to focus on upper body and diet instead of cardio until I can get healed or give the doctor time to take steps. I think I am eventually a knee replacement, but if I can get the cartilage to cooperate, I can handle the arthritis. I think most the problem lies in the doctor following a protocol from the insurance companies before going from one step to the next. Everything he does has to be pre-approved by the insurance company. So cortisone-gel shot-done know next steps on the ladder. But this is very frustrating.

Just a step back. Let the young foolish guys work and train on injuries. Look what all that over extended full range of motion did for Arnold. Lou didn’t do that . Arnold looked better for a short period of time. Lou is still maintaining well. Life’s a marathon not a sprint. Goodluck on a speedy recovery.
