-3 Protien powder dilemma!

ad

Hey guys, so this is something I've encountered a lot. Not sure if it's ever been discussed. Not trying to make this so much of a "what protien powder is best" conversation. Here's my issue. I've noticed it with A LOT of different protien powders. And will give examples. They claim to have x amount grams of the following, protien, creatine, bcaas, other various ingredients. Say equalling to 40 grams. In a single serving, and a serving is one scoop. Yet one scoop weighs less than the ingredients discussed.

Muscletech nitrotech power claims to have over 50g. Ingredients in a scoop. Yet a scoop weighs 47g

Optimum Nutrition is another. I was just at GNC n was looking at it. Made sure it was for one scoop, which was 1 serving. It's the gold standard whey.
Serving is 33g a scoop yet they claim each scoop has
25g protien
5.5g bcaas
4g glutamine and precursors

It's not just these. You go browse your local gnc. In some brands just the creatine, protien, and bcaas make up more than the weight of the scoop. What about the flavoring, fillers, etc. I mean these are weights were discussing. How does a bag with 2 lbs of apples 2 lbs of oranges and 2 lbs of peaches only weigh 5 lbs? Must not be 2 lbs of each in my eyes.

I can be completely overlooking something and mis understanding. But please elaborate and help me out guys

There are lots of quality proteins out there. Just pick one you like and stay with it. Don't worry so much about the few grams difference.

Using the search function you might find something like this:

Liquid protein does not stay in the digestive tract long enough to be fully digested.

Best to get your protein from food. Your body can absorb nearly all of the protein you eat. Whatever your muscles don't use will be converted to energy.

The maximum rate that whey protein can be absorbed is about 8-10 grams per hour.

It takes one and a half hours for a whey protein shake to pass through the section of the gut that can actually absorb it. So a whey shake will yield about 15 grams of absorbed protein.

So no matter how much whey you dump in that shake you will only ingest about 15 grams of protein. Now the good news:

Digestive enzymes (added by quality makers of whey protein drinks) can increase the absorption rate by up to 125%

So, at a theoretical best, 20g per serving is all you can use.

Never once did I bring up anything about rates of digestion.... Then there's the argument of the difference in whey protein, an isolate, casein and any other protien and the rate for them. Or, something along the lines of a blend such as syntha-6 or allmax hexapro, or any other blend. Sorry your a mod and just need to jump on the good old "use the search function" you see I CLEARLY stated I wasn't sure if it's been covered. But my friend you CLEARLY didn't even comprehend the meaning of the post. My post was more of an angle of false advertising, because many times all forms of supplements claim things they do not. Was something I've noticed and was a mixture of TRYING TO HELP the community by there possibly being a senior member who could shed some knowledge, and so I can understand myself. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this. Then again, protien supplements are not required to be Assessed by the FDA

But incase anyone doesn't know how much can be absorbed in a sitting you have now shed the light. Thank you. Also great math bud. a 125% increase on 15g is 33.75g. A 25% INCREASE on 15 is just under the 20 your claiming. Good effort tho. See how being unhelpful and just needing to put an arrogant word in makes you just that. Appear to be an arrogant idiot.

Bro... I've been on this site for years. And the reason I don't have any participation is the simple fact of where this forum has gone to how it used to be. Just how I asked a question and you just like many others have to give an answer just to say something. Not even related to the question. So go ban me then go ahead God damn.lmao you guys think your God. This is why I don't participate. Because I'm polite to everyone I come into contact with. Unless their a dick. Which u are. So yeah suck my dick your mother's a bitch ban me lmao.

Dude are you ok? You posted a question, homie answered VERY extensively, like took a few minutes to type it out and proofread to make sure it made sense, and you call him a bitch?
The fuck is wrong with you bro?

You’re probably 18 years lol man you need to fix your attitude before someone fuck you up in real life most likely you don’t act like this in real life keyboard warrior lol

As for your weight question, I'd guess there's some overlap in the content and some rounding. For example, amino acids make up protein so you could say that there is (for example) 6 grams of protein and 1 gram of aminos. That does not equal 7 grams. That is 6 grams of protein, 16% which is made up of aminos.

The second is rounding. 1 terabyte is 1024 gigabytes. Manufactures round down to 1000 gigabytes equal a terabyte. Didn't matter much when drives were only 1 or 2 terabytes...

Sellers of protein will no doubt round up a few grams.

rfurino93's picture

Amino nitrogen is what accounts for 16% of protien. From a nutritionial label standpoint an amino acid content of 5g will not and can not account towards say 15g protein. Under the assumption there's 10g protien. Or if that 15g protien that 16% of it was amino acids. Because on that note if a protien powder claimed to have 20g. Protien it would HAVE to contain 3.2 grams of amino acids. I'm not here to argue scemantics with a mod who is going to do the same he always does. Just neg posts he doesn't agree with or when someone points out they are Incorrect. Hopefully someone with some valid points can give some knowledge to the community or if not then everyone just check stuff more.

Greg's picture

Notice how I stated that this was an example. Not a literal breakdown. I am not an expert in the makeup of protein powders. It was an example to demonstrate how your attempt to count overall grams could be flawed, the grams may have an overlap.

From a nutritional label standpoint an amino acid content of 5g will not and can not account towards say 15g protein.

Who says? You? If I catch a 15 pound fish and sell it to you could I not say my 15 lb fish contains 13 lbs meat

In your mind I'm being disingenuous because obviously I'm claiming there's 28 pounds in my 15 pound fish.

As for the neg I gave you, it's for your trolling not because I disagree with your content. Enjoy it while you can young snowflake.

Hey, Greg, how much patience you have to have with this new generation of trolls that are born..lol

rfurino93's picture

Or like I said suck my dick your mom's a bitch. Can you just ban me lmao. Fucking pompous jerskoff. I'll be back with an account with pics of your i.p adress and every site you visited. Literally one of the first things I learned when I went to r.p.i tech. Hope u don't watch any weird or gay porn.

Greg's picture

Go for it.

By the way techie, I never heard a comeback for the HDD example. Does that mean you at least understood that much, or should I dumb it down more for you?

rfurino93's picture

No it means I just don't give a shit because there's a reason a lot of people don't participate here. It's a pathetic environment. I purely come here for source validation. And to stay current with new domestic sources. Fag. Lmao. Everyone is such a tough guy here

Greg's picture

You're the keyboard warrior kid, not I.

Truth be told, I did read your post hastily the first time. When I saw you looking at 50g per serving I posted a reply basically telling you not to consider proteins offering more than 15 or 20g. I reread your post and amended mine to answer your "weight dilemma", but by that time you already went full troll.

In spite of that, I have for the most part kept my cool; you on the other hand have doubled down with sophomoric taunts.

Sorry if my explanations flew in the face of your grand protein conspiracy theory.

"LMAO. Everyone is a tough guy here."

Says the self professed IT wizard with a scant "25 years" of life under his belt. Full of wind and bluster. Lacking experiance and most certainly suffering from ADHD. Completely lacking in self confidence or self worth.

Funny thing, you think you're so clever and that you're trolling me. But, you keep getting more bombastic and emotional in your attempt to get a rise out of me. One might ask, "who's trolling whom?"
