+ 1 If you could do the EBC over again

ad

I am just curious the big lessons everyone learned that if they had the chance to do the EBC all over again, what would you change or do different? Hopefully you kept notes along the way about diet, training, cycle, peak weak etc. For many of you this was your first experience doing this type of thing so there may have been many pitfalls you encountered along the way and now know what not to do or what to do even better for your next go. Hopefully this can be somewhat of a useful post so others attempting a future EBC hopefully learn from some of your mistakes or struggles.

Might make a new thread for this but how’s everyone coming along since the ebc? I’m holding steady. As of today up 1 1/2 - 2 pounds still really lean, slightly less visible abs, not nearly as dry but still holding strong.

exoticnfit's picture

Up about 20lbs and with ab's etc. as usual for me in grow season.

A couple more lbs and I will be back at heaviest...possibility of putting on 5-15lbs by end of year is at forefront unless I commit to a late season NQ.

Eating whatever, whenever and feeling much healthier.

Got it taken care of just a couple weeks ago...insurance whether or not it could be saved or pulled took a while.

Eating decent and should be in full swing by end of month with more healing.

All good brother!!!!

Nice dude! I’m eating semi clean. Still kinda instinctive since the diet. Just more calories and lots more carbs. Gonna be starting deca for first time ever in a few weeks.

addicted.to.pain's picture

Keep a feeler on your mood dude, Anytime I've ran Nandrolone it's like flipping a depression switch in my mind. Me and Nandro just do not mix, DHB and Bold on the other hand I've found my system runs just fine with those.

But everyone's different , some people get basically no sides. Nice job in the EBC dude truly nice job.

Same weight as at the end of the EBC. Lost a total of 3.5" off my waist from when I started. I'm doing the same cardio/weights and eating pretty much the same.

GrowMore's picture

My plan was to hit single digits, I achieved this and learnt more in these 12 weeks than I have in the last year.. if I was to be critical I would of started cardio early, 4 weeks earlier! The challenge was both humbling and a uplifting experience so I have the organisers and community to thank for. I’ve got my before and after shots coming in a 30x20 frame to put up on the wall.

I would have to agree with what Rusty said in regards to the ebc being a bodybuilding competition, no disrespect to the judges as you had a extremely tough job on your hands, one in which I wouldn’t want due to all the hassle etc.. and everyone who entered did an amazing job, respect to all!

Just a lurker and a learner here but everything from the setup, sponsors, judges, to the contestants were not only motivating but I learned a lot and seeing some of the transformations was proof that you should listen to the people who can discipline and manipulate there body so extremely in such a short period of time. Hats off to all of you. Whether for money, goals, or personal well being, you guys really put in the work. Congrats to the winners and the ones who didn't win. I don't think there were any losers except the people who quit.

Makwa's picture

I'll just throw out a suggestion here. You guys/gals have the luxury of a window to submit your pics with a competition like this. With an onstage competition your time to shine is only for that moment you are on stage and that is it. Miss your peak and you are out of luck. I heard many competitors saying they looked much better the day after or a couple of days after when they took their photos. This is common for even vets and pretty much gauranteed to happen to someone who is really unfamiliar with peaking for a show.

What I would highly recommend for future EBC is to take your final photos a couple of days before the deadline. Take several sets of photos over the course of a few days and even at different times of the day and submit the set you are most pleased with. Take a set before you carb load or do any manipulations for that matter. Take a set after your water/carb/sodium manipulations or after whatever you did to peak. Take a set the day after you have pigged out. The opportunities are endless to find your perfect look. If you wake up the next morning after eating all your pizza and ice cream and donuts and you look twice the size and veins are bulging out everywhere now, then sbumit that set. The actual opportunity to do that is priceless. Take advantage of that window to submit pics. I wouldn't be waiting until the last hour of the last day to take and submit my pics.

36 lbs is awesome. Which is pretty much a consistent weight loss over the 12 wks or did it come in spurts?

Makwa's picture

That is kind of typically how it happens. Peels right off in the beginning and then slows down to a much more realistic pace. That is where people often panic though since they were used to it peeling off rapidly and then get to extreme with their diet thinking it should always be like that and hit metabolic fatigue and then there is no hope. Looks like you did it correctly. How many pant sizes did you drop?

Porkbythapound's picture

Let’s talk about belt sizes...lol I went from being on the very last hole in my belt to having to make a new hole on the opposite side of the belt.

Porkbythapound's picture

Thanks bud I appreciate it. I gave it about 93% and was upset I didn’t go full 100% but proud of the end result. You shed off a first grader and for real look remarkably better and your ab journey is within grasp.

Keep working bro!.. you will get there!...stay on the foods, you’ll change by the week!

Same questions to Carlos and Makwa as judges;

If you could setup and judge this differently for future EBC’s, what would you have done different?

Would you judge another ebc?

How much were people docked for not using the same background, different lighting, pics missing or not in order? Carlos mentioned that people would be docked for those so I was curious as to how much the top 5 were docked for those things?

How would you feel about the community judging it as a whole, or having more judges as opposed to 2?

Do you feel like the judging, given the criteria was pretty objective? I noticed that in the top 10 there was a good portion that started lean and dropped maybe a couple % bf. One person lost only 10 or 12 lbs. One top 5 competitor didn’t look like they trained their entire lower body in 12 weeks so that placing was a huge surprise to me.

What can we take away from this EBC to try and improve on it for next time?

I didn’t have myself in the top 10 but my top 10 looked WAY different then the outcome. This is the subjectivity we have with something like this. I think if we had more like 8-10 judges next time we could throw out the high and low scores and make things more objective.

Just my .02

Carlos Danger's picture

So I’ll do this once and if there are replies to this I won’t answer. Also, to everyone else please don’t turn this into a shit show Ive heard all about the PMs flying back n forth and unhappy competitors. I already expected that and I’m happy with our Top 10 even if some out there aren’t. It’s part of the business and I’m sleeping like a baby regardless.

As far as I’m aware there was not any different backgrounds in the top 5. There was a technical issue with Wanted not being geek squad and being able to size his files so he framed them. I went to look at enhanced again and his pix are gone. The rest of the top five all are the same. I will say fractions were the difference with the top 10-15. Everyone was bunched together with so many doing so well. It was so tough man I can’t say it enough how great everyone did this EBC. No matter what our top 10 would’ve been a lot of people would be unhappy. I am fully aware this is par for the course and it’s a responsibility I’m willing to bear.

Back to the top 10-
There were others who could not rearrange their photos as the design of the site locked them in. Even when many wanted to delete photos after the comp ended they couldn’t due to the same technical issue. BFG had to go fix it to allow for this to happen. For those who loaded in wrong order once they saved they couldn’t rearrange at all. That’s not their fault and so I gave them a pass. As stated in the rules I have the final say. Nobody was docked points this year. We had one DQ due to using a Laptop for the paper and not reaching out to me. One I let slide with different background due to him moving and having a kid at the same time. He failed to hit me up but I already knew his situation based on his public posts so I did the right thing and let him in.

Not many know that we’ve considered doing entire site judging system. I almost want to say we’ve actually done this in the 1st or 2nd EBC ever. With as many clusters of circle jerk buddies in here it’s hard to ensure the integrity of the outcomes. Let’s be honest I’ve seen high ranking members get karma for saying stupid shit and getting away with it for the tag next to their names. I’m not a fan of this system.
I have already recruited another member to be a full time judge next time around and possibly for good. Someone I trust explicitly and Mak trusts as well. When the time comes I’ll announce it. The problem with adding more and more judges is I’ve been flaked on by so many in the past it’s a circus trying to get people to honor their commitment. It’s a headache I frankly don’t want to deal with. I have zero recourse for anyone who has life get in the way. Instead I end up with the alternate judges. One year I had a couple judges go MIA at the same time. It’s tough when these folks have priorities like Family, Work, Life that has to come first.

This year I almost had my wife walk out on me with my two year old cuz I spent the entire closing weekend on my phone and didn’t spend any time with my 2 yr old son. No bullshit swear to god. She said I’m pathetic for putting a bunch of steroid junkies over my only son. Honestly she’s 100% correct. When you really think about it I am 100% a piece of shit for putting you guys over my only son. Anyhow that’s why we don’t grow the judges. Not many men and women are willing to do to their families what I did to mine.

As far as your opinion on judging that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. Mak and I were comfortable with our cards and I wouldn’t expect highly competitive people to just be ok if they didn’t agree. Don’t agree. Doesn’t bother me one bit brother. I would think less of people if they didn’t have an opinion. That’s what makes being human so awesome we can think and say whatever we want.

I will say I do have one regret. FrankieMortiz. That dude didn’t run 3cc of shit, didn’t have an ounce of muscle didn’t run tren or insulin, dude ran a fucked up cycle of HGH and Var and completely changed his body basically with hard work and Keto. If I would have allowed my personal choice I would have had him as the clear winner. He ran circles around so many competitors who loaded this and that and that and this of hormones in their body. Even tho I don’t recommend his cycle I think he did great! Just goes to show that you don’t need a background in bodybuilding or experience running gear or have high karma. You just need hard work and iron in you blood. He captured that spirit to the T. FrankiMortiz I’m a fan brother!! Congrats on your incredible transformation.

To everyone, I sincerely hope you enjoyed the show. I hope you’re as proud of the entire field as I am. I hope you saw the very best of what Eroids members can bring to the table when challenged to put their walk where their talk is. I hope you saw something that speaks to your core as someone who loves this lifestyle. I hope you consider joining us and throwing your name into the next EBC. I hope you’re just as excited about the next EBC as I am!
Til next time

As soon as the final pics were posted that dude was my pick for the winner, his ending physique was not stage worthy no. But his overall change was just down right impressive I might even say inspiring .

Its simple really the way you guys did the final cards, was the only logical way to do them.

You did great! And I back up everything you said. I was one of the judges on the EBC before this one and I will confirm it is much harder than most think. If I wasn't so busy right now I would have gladly done it again all the same. We have had the same issues tho with every EBC. Someone always feels cheated, I promise all of you however that I would stack the fairness of the EBC against any bodybuilding competition in the country.

Makwa's picture

Your experience with previous EBC's really shows. I couldn't imagine trying to pull something off like this again without you.

Carlos Danger's picture

Feeling is mutual Mak. It’s so hard to do this alone. I’ve done it before and it’s not fun at all. I need your help more than you know. Thank you brother

CD and I spent alot of time going over and figuring out the judging criteria. I am really pleased with how the criteria worked out so I would have no reservations about using the exact same criteria again. I think keeping the criteria consistent will also reinforce to the competitors how this is being judged and how to go about your prep since we have now been through once already. I really wouldn't change a thing.

Judging and EBC probably sounds easier than it really is. To pull an EBC off there is so much more going on then just judging. Even with the amount of time and effort involved with an EBC, it was an enjoyable experience and I would likely judge again if asked and available for the next one.

I do think a future EBC cutter will be somewhat easier since I think we layed a good foundation during this one and can just build off of it. We all learned alot along the way and came up with some good suggestions that we have archived to make the next EBC even better. You always learn something along the way and we took note of that. I am just surprised we didn't have more snafus along the way. CD's experience with previous EBC is what really helped to smooth the whole process out I believe.

As you know, we tried to get more judges but that is easier than it sounds. There likely will be another judge or two for future EBC. I don't know how having the whole community judge this would turn out. You really need to have an impartial panel that is on the same page with the criteria. I see to much abuse for people just voting for their buddies and turning it into a free for all.

Ozninjaguy's picture

...and maybe have some age categories (don't know how that could be established though) ....impossible for me to realisticaly compete against any of the other contestants, the body just doesn't respond as well when you are almost mid-60s. But still, I came away from it leaner and wiser, so it was time well spent.

growthman's picture

Agreed, a masters class would be awesome and level the playing field. Only tough part is getting enough total competitors to carve out a class for the masters dudes.

Carlos Danger's picture

We rely on Sources shelling out for the purse. It’s not easy to get that done. Imagine every 12wks we have our hands out asking for something? It’s tougher than it sounds. As you saw some sources went mia for this purse

Well, you know, I'd like an Advanced Masters class from 64 onwards - I might even have a chance then...lol.

growthman's picture

I would have done things differently if I had a better understanding of what the judging criteria was. I wouldn’t have stopped exercising and ate junky processed food for weeks prior to starting the ebc. I would have actually been dieting at that time, focusing on getting as lean as possible at all costs, not focusing on making a 30+ lb weight loss transformation inside of 12 weeks.

Pale's picture

Which is exactly what I personally told everyone to do.
