creatine causing water retention..?

ad

Hi all,

I started supplementing creatine again after not using it for a good few months but I feel and look a bit puffier like I am retaining more water...

I have seen quite a few comments and studies that show it is known for causing water retention but I have never noticed it previously.

I am currently on a test only cycle and I know that can also be a factor in my issue but I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks to combat the water retention at all?

Thanks I’m advance guys.

They say creatine HCI doesn’t cause extra cellular water retention and you don’t need to front load it and the dose is small at 1.5 grams. But I have some doubts. I was using it and switched to regular mono. It is much cheaper. I just take 4 grams in the am. And 4 grams after working out and the additional water retention isn’t that bad

Yeh I did think it was HCL that didn't cause the water retention as its binded to salt isn't it.

Yeah a scoop once a day personally has me water retention free. I did not frontload the creatine either but typically to frontload I would take 2 scoops per day for a week then back to the one dose. However I really believe that even the creatine can be cycled in a way

Bro as long as your not loading creatine, you should be retaining very little water. But if your prepping for a contest, then I would stop creatine completely. But if not, I really don’t think you need to worry that much about retaining water.

I always take creative during a cycles and my water retention is not bad.

Luckily not competing, just going on holiday at the end of the month haha.

It’s something I have used previously but never noticed any bloating so was just seeing if this was one of the factors or not, just so I can try and adjust or I might just keep using it snd see if it subsides.

Eat some celery or more broccoli. Those are natural diuretics, that can help out with the water retention.

Thanks buddy, will give it a try!

Not trying to be a dick here but are you joking?

Creatine causing water retention .?

That's like saying oh no my Test E is raising my testosterone.

Water retention is one of the principle purposes if not the main purpose of Creatine.

I get what you mean buddy, I understand it sounds like a daft question i know.

What I meant by water retention wasn’t directly referring to muscular but more around all areas of my body like stomach and face etc.

My diet has been pretty consistent and I haven’t changed anything that would cause me to puff up so was just seeing if anyone else has experienced anything similar that’s all.

Creatine does cause water retention, which is actually classed as one of its benefits as it volumizes the muscle meaning more ATP and glycogen storage. You can also get better leverages on exercises meaning increased strength. Many using it also want to look bigger in the same way DBol or Adrol bloats you up with water even if its not actual muscle as such. Supposedly some forms of it cause less water retention than the usual monohydrate version but I've not tried them. I would think you want the water saturation for it to perform its best within the muscle.

Ahh good shout, thanks for the insight. I have tried a few different forms but you see a lot of things about different types are just a sales gimmick and don’t do much or anything different to the original.
