Looking for injury advice

ad

I was 3 weeks in to a test/NPP cycle when an old injury returned (last weekend), it was the day before I was going to switch from test c to the sust 350 I'd been waiting for! I figured my best bet would be to end the cycle, I know I'm going to be out for a long time.

The first time this happened it took years of trips to docs and hospital to finally get an idea what the actual problem was, too many docs just want to give me pain killers and send me on my way, I was sent for physio twice but they just made it worse, eventually I was referred to an NHS physio that knew what he was doing, I was reluctant to even try after the first two but I'm glad I did because it finally got me back on track. This time I'm skipping the docs and going straight for private physio, with a bit of luck this will cut the recovery from years to months! I have my first session next week.

The last physio said it's various stabiliser muscles in the hip/glute area, one gets strained for whatever reason, because one isn't working properly that puts extra strain on others, all getting weaker as they are used less and less, rest is the best thing once pain starts, but after the rest everything is a bit weaker, sometimes it doesn't take much at all to set it off once it's started, something as simple as sitting or standing wrong!!

While I've been laid up I started thinking staying on might do some good, I'll be taking things easy for a long time, maybe it'll help retain some muscle and stop the problem getting as bad as it did last time, as well as speeding the recovery time of any damage to muscle.

It's just a thought, is it something to even consider? All I'll be doing for the foreseeable future is physio and resistance band exercises.

I'm gutted! So depressed, I've only recently built myself a gym at home and was loving the ability to workout without having to drive anywhere or wait for other people to finish using something, now it's going to end up looking like it was from a new years resolution fitness kick, brand new and covered in dust!

It’s been a while, thought I’d post an update. The private physio did an assessment, explained how one thing has led to another, putting stress on various parts of my body resulting in what he believes is sciatic nerve pain due to the piriformis muscle.

The most important thing he pointed out is the way tension in muscles has been putting my body in unnatural positions. Knowing that has helped keep it from getting bad, by keeping a close eye on my posture.

Aside from that I’ve had some trouble with my shoulders, not sure what caused it, I took some time off the gym which didn’t seem to help, then I seemed to get all the bugs that were going around over xmas and new year! Once I was over that and I got my diet back on track, I started back on the gym again but with minimal weight, focusing on form, adding the smallest amount of weight each week, this has worked wonders for my shoulders.

The physio told me I can’t do squats, deadlifts or run, instead I have to go to him twice a week with a bucket of cash just to minimise the chance of it kicking off again! That sounds to me like he’s just trying to line his pockets, I can’t afford that so never went back. I’ve recently started squats and deadlifts again, using just the 20kg bar, I’ll be adding weight very slowly, things are going well so far, I’ll be back on form in no time, still not AAS ready, I want at least another stone and be lifting real weight before I even consider it.

Look brother, I broke my AC joint and could not bench or overhead press for 2 years. Guess what I was still able to do everything else. Arms got huge, shoulders got huge (i was only able to do side laterals).
7 years later when I was in the best shape in my life I get in a car accident and break my leg. Couldn't do any legs for 18 months. My right leg still looks like a toothpick compared to my left.
BUT ! I concentrated on my abs, back, arms... I literally had people walk up to me and shake my hand and tell me "thank you, you are my inspiration".

So what I'm trying to say is don't give up. EVER ! Look up this dude that was born with partial pectoral muscle. He is missing mid and lower pec. But the rest of his body if fucking flawless. He never gave up.

I've been thinking about it and I think I'm going to quit lifting altogether, I'm not looking forward to getting back to it at all, maybe I'm just depressed, I'm not going to sell up just yet just incase I snap out of it and regret everything, I think I'm mainly scared of the thought of this injury never actually being 100% and it'll keep coming back until one day I'll not recover from it.

Could you isolate whilst training?
Rather than drop everything, focus on targeted and isolated pump work? (sounds like a fucking rape plan! - no homo)

I tore my forearm and ruined my elbow tendons - almost dropped out, but changed certain things, focused on healing primarily, but isolated work elsewhere, reconnected mind-muscle etc. (good time to do it) and went to a soft tissue expert to help heal. If you go physio, go to one who does ART (not painting, but active release/soft tissue work, make sure is accredited )

just a thought

I can probably do a decent upper body workout, avoiding standing exercises and being extra careful how I pick things up. During the bad periods, 2-3 days at a time usually, I probably won't be able to do anything, if I'm careful they will be few and far between, the problem is even seated you use legs/hips to stabilise so I'm hesitant to try incase I set it off.

Maybe if I use less weight for more reps I'll have less chance of causing problems, I'll see what the physio says, maybe it'll even help, the last one didn't want me doing anything more than light-medium resistance bands.

Understood
U are right not to stress the injury, dont make it worse!
Well the thing about the bands, is they are fantastic for really connecting mind muscle
Could be a great few weeks for a reconnect

Good plan, at least I get to keep my mind in the game!

Damm new years resolutioners!! Stealinng my gainz!!. Lol!

In all seriousness this does suck, I wont give you advice, only tell you what I would do, which is drop the gear and just focus on eating and staying healthy.
Reason being I would feel as if I am wasting the gear. If I'm taking it I want to get everything I can out of it . I FUCKING hate having to stop because of an injury. Have battled elbow and shoulder crap for awhile and I have taken short stints away and only done cardio. At the end of the day trust what your heart and mind tell you is right to do. I only put up what I would do not because its what you should do just wanted to share. I do hope you get back to it soon I definitely understand how you feel. Good luck

More or less what I thought, I wouldn't loose sleep over loosing a cycles worth of test but if it's not going to help it's still a pointless waste!
