+ 1 high blood pressure in young natural lifter

ad

Hello everyone, I just wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on this. I recently got my blood pressure checked and it was 149/82 at 95bpm. I thought that was pretty high considering I try my best to live a healthy lifestyle. I haven't drank alcohol in months and don't smoke, Im almost 21 and haven't done a cycle yet, (plan on waiting till 23). all of my meals are always clean consisting of whole foods. I did a little research on my own and I guess sometimes the Blood pressure monitor can be off if the patient has more muscle mass than average? I don't want to have to take any medications for it because I think there must be a mistake. Ive been taking fish oil for 3 years and I've heard hawthorne berry helps. Any input is appreciated.

I've spoken with a few doctors and as directed here something as simple as stress can induce higher than normal rate.

Added research indicates that simply standing up from a chair and sitting back down can raise it 10bpm much less if you get "white coat syndrome" meaning freak out because a medical professional is checking your BP or if the cuff is to small etc.

BP is a silent killer and def needs to be monitored but we have to also remember that we are also NOT average persons and 120/80 is the average persons guideline.

Keep tabs on it, optimize sound nutrition, supplement and gear use along with cardio (something I have to pick up myself) and even buy your own BP measuring cuff for easier monitoring.

I personally noticed that I read much higher with the BP monitoring cuff devices whether at home or doctors office and when at Doctors always request the traditional cuff/stethoscope version with the correct cuff size.

Train for PURPOSE and stay healthy!

I've also stopped testing my BP during an amazing BJ from the Mrs. Seemed to really throw off my reading for some reason Yes, its OK to laugh a little Smile

Are you stressed? Lol sometimes it's a simple fix

Always tragic reading these posts. Try the following in this order

1) I increase your cardio to 1 hour per day.
2) If you are using gear, consider lowering the dosage. Most people use way too much.
3) If you are using aromatizing compounds, check your estrogen. Test above say 300mg per week will in and of itself increase bp significantly due to estrogenic water retention. The same is true with dianabol, even at a low dose of 30mg per day. 12.5-25mg of aromasin per day usually works for most people.
4) If you have been using gear at all, check your RBC and hematocrit levels. If they are at the upper end of the range (not necessarily ABOVE the range), give blood at as many different centers as possible until levels are in the bottom half of the range.
5) Lastly, if nothing else works, take 5 mg lisinopril and 25mg of hctz. These combo pills are cheap and have a low side effect profile.

BMI does increase the risk of cardiac events, but this is due to the heart working harder to pump blood through more body area. Blood pressure is not a factor, and it is one you can control.

I have borderline high blood pressure and of course my marathon running doctor said the same thing. After a year of convincing her that lifting heavy isn't a bad thing she finally relented and recommended taking a baby aspirin every day and that seems to keep it manageable. She also told me according to the charts that I am obese. I'm 6' tall and 225 lbs. with 15% so WTF.

Please update your stats with this info then.

I know that if they don't use the large cuff, my readings are way higher.

Who checked it, was it manual or machine, how big was the cuff vs how big are your arms, were you dehydrated, did you just get done lifting, did you take caffeine/preworkout within 3 hours before your reading, etc etc. ?

Lots of factors go in to determining high BP. Could be transient. Could be genetic. Take care w the suggestions below young brother. Good luck!

Heart rate 95 is considered sinus tachycardia. Taking BP several times through the day and tracking it, like mentioned below, is the first step in determining hypertension. Technically, you need an average of all your BP readings over the course of a couple days to a week to get a more accurate reading for true results. See your doc if the numbers you posted regarding your BP dont decrease. BP meds, further diet modification, min to mod cardio could be a successful interevention if AAS is in your plan. But, that is 4-5 yrs away from now.

Well heres a thought brotha, "white coat syndrome" its a phenomenon where one tests higher when at the doctors office for different reasons, typically nerves, but when you take your bp at home or somewhere else you test much lower. It happens to me. I get in there and for some reason my heart beat starts to speed up pretty dramatically, they take my bp, and its usually alot higher then normal. My moms a nurse so she has a nice bp machine and will take mine a few times when i ask her ( I have mine also but its not as nice) and when she does it at my house it will be much lower then the numbers from the doctors office.

Just another possibility, not saying this is what it is. But for 50 dollars or so you can get a pretty decent electronic machine that goes around your wrist and you can take yours 3-4 times in a row and log the results, see how close together they are, take an average etc. And see if this might be the case for you also.

How are your eyes and vision? I started to have a quick decline in my vision which made my eye muscles work x10 to keep things in focus making my normally low BP jump to numbers like yours. While I would strain to focus I would slowly start to hyperventilate and not even realize it making BP go up more. Hope you get it figured out soon bro!

You can have high blood pressure due to genetics.

As long as the cuff fits the readings should be accurate. What's your current bodyfat? Taking any caffeine or preworkout powders? Stressed out about anything...school, work, relationships?

bigjonson's picture

i usually take one 200 mg caffeine pill before my workouts and my body fat is around 14-15%

Makwa's picture

I wouldn't expect problems with that amount of caffeine or bodyfat. Must be something else.
