+ 1 Blood Donation vs Labs timing
I have a question . Will timing blood work around Donating blood change the results of blood test? I donated blood and two days later I went in for Blood Lab Work. I did this because my Hemoglobin was getting high when I donated blood and I wanted to see how far it came down after donating so that I would have a better idea if I just do a double red blood cell donation next time. It didn't even cross my mind until I already did it but will the donation so close to the labs throw my other readings off? Do you think giving blood and doing my labs so closely will give me false readings? I've never done the two that close before. I still would have tested either way but I wouldn't have spent the extra money on all the other tests I had done if I'm going to get false readings. Any help or opinions are appreciated.
I did my testing at Quest if that matters in this case.

Always give double reds if you can, mine stays high like yours I do the double red once a month to 6 weeks There are 4 places by me and they don't share info so they only know the last time I donated with them. And even only after a month it's back elevated 15-17. The way it fell one time I did 2 double reds donations within 3 days of each other and still had a count of 13. I get headaches like migraines and lethargic when it gets high I can feel it. And giving two pints of rbc you help save another life every donation. Most trauma victims need just the rbc and not the plasma or platelets. I've always looked at it like this, I'm healthy enough to have healthy blood and I'm on steroids so I have superhuman blood. It would be selfish of me to not donate when I have healthy blood that regenerates faster then the average human because of the steroids. If you give to the red cross, you.can go give to your local blood bank in a few weeks if you wish. Don't have to wait the 4 months info isn't shared between blood companies.It only takes 15 mins longer for a double red cell. The blood center by me, gives you and three people.guaranteed blood for a year from a donation. If you don't want or need that, you can select for them to make a cash donation to a non profit summer camp for kids with cancer. Or you can select your blood to be used for replacement blood for someone sick in the community, how like some people run a blood drive for so and so that needs treatment. I select them all within a year and if I have the option I try to give my double red cells as a replacement for some infant or young kid fighting leukemia. Check your local blood banks some do some great things. And all this blood stays locally in the GNO and gulf coast region. They even have a program once a year if your a regular donate where they select a few people to actually get to meet whose lives your blood saved.
I'm having a hard time finding additional places to donate other than Red Cross. Do you have any tips on finding additional places to donate?
Wow, that's deep and honestly makes me want to give. I'm all about kids bro, when you metioned helping kids with lekumia that really made me think. Thanks for taking the time to share and helping me realise that it's not just about lowering my RBC.
The only readings that would be "off" would be the hemo and hematocrit IMO. Everything else is fine. And when you donate blood, pretty much as soon as your done your body is on a mission to swing itself back into balance, homeostasis. The body will start making new blood instantaneously.
If you give whole blood no.
If you donate double RBC yes because your plasma will go back into your body (where the hormones and other factors are at)
If you gave double red it still shouldnt affect your numbers THAT much
Body = youre 225 so around 8quarts. Thats 16 pints. Theyre taking 2 pints of blood but give you a pint of plasma and saline back. 1/16 blood gone=6.25% decrease in blood volume to factors ratio. Your hormone levels will be roughly 6%~ high and RBCs slightly low. Other plasma levels will be around the 6% as well. Two days should give enough time for some RBC regeneration however. So these numbers are even lower. Particularly if your body compensates with more plasma.
Long story short, no. My guess about 2% difference.
Fasting/not fasting has a larger impact
If I'm understanding what your saying, being that my Hemo was on the high end (16.9), I probally should've given double red to being with instead of just blood? I did not fast for the test. I thought that would really only affect my GH serum, and my glucose.
not a big deal, just donate again in 8 weeks.
fasting not required for hormone numbers, but will throw off lipids and glucose and probably a few other things
