Cheapest meat source
ad
Well my new nutrition regiment is going to require a lot more meat for my bulk. Just trying to figure out how to not spend all my money on protein.
My safeway usually sells pork shoulder for around 2 bucks a pound. I usually slow cook it for a whole day and add some vinegar and chicken broth cubes the meat as it cooks. I get around 6 pounds of tender pork under 20 bucks.
Chicken breast is always an option but I get tired of it after 1 bite...
Any other ideas?

I normally hit up the local farms. Around me we have alot. So its always easy to get anything you need at a good price.
The cheaper cuts of beef are great for slow cooking!!
Go to your local meat market and skip places like Wal -fart and local grocery stores too much mark up on everything...
+1
Guess I am fortunate to just open the back door and shoot a deer, or a squirrel or two when they start driving my dogs crazy.
That's what's up. Wild game! Venison, elk, moose quality reds.
Deer is good. I'm not a hunter but some of my friends are. I can also go to a processer and get some deer sausage and steak.
What about turkey????? Tastes a lot better than chicken cheap if you get minced turkey but still good lean meat
London broil, 2-3 bucks a pound. I'm making my first one tomorrow. I can let you know how it goes if you are interested.
Chicken is hard to make good and requires adequate preperation. I find stuff like white chicken chili and marinating my chicken in a variety of seasonings to keep it fresh.
Best way to go is to get 80% lean ground meat. You can get 7 pounds at Walmart for $13. Protein intake will be high and it will have enough fat to help you bulk. You can even change it from day to day. One day eat it with pasta, next day with rice, etc....
If your not cutting chicken leg quarters are always a good deal. You can usually find a 10lb bag at grocery stores for around $6.00 and there's a bunch of ways to cook them.
Throw some beef liver in the mix if you can deal with it. It's high in iron and vitamin A, so don't eat it too often. $2-3 a pound. Canned tuna is cheap as well. So are lentils if you buy them in bulk. Just some ideas.
Venison
Wild hog...bullets, gun, trap, gas, time is the expense. 150 pound hogs are the best. You recover 75% of the weight in whole meat. Thats a little over 100lbs/hog. Dont know if u hunt or know anyone that does...if u get lucky...the next thing u will need is a freezer...lol
Time is the problem o. I wish I can hunt, I own a perfect condition pre ww2 Mosin sniper rifle. Very accurate and ammo is cheap. I might look into it. No hogs around Seattle area though. Mostly deer
Darn...
luckily i have lots of "friends" in low places. i buy up peoples food stamps. Every time i walk into the grocery store its like a 50% of sale store wide.
