Isometric routines for ultra strength and hard muscle?

Made a new friend at the gym, man has hard body like wood, the muscles are not large but very hard and strong! Asked him he told me he does isometric work 3 sessions a week, anybody done anything like that? if so what are the best?

I get my isometric workouts from practicing my posing routine. After a half hour of posing my muscles are rock hard and pumped. Try holding a pose for a minute or more. You will be sore the next day if you are really squeezing it hard and holding it.
