Thoughts on Push-ups Pull-ups most everyday?
ad
Saw a couple people talking about this the other day. While I'm a firm believer in rest days, what do you guys think about doing say 300 push-ups 6 days a week and 100 pull-ups a day (varying grips)? I think it might be fun to try alongside my standard workout schedule. I'm wondering how it will affect my performance in the gym or if I'll get used to it. Thoughts?

so did you try it out? if so results?
If you align the body weight excercises with your weight training excercises..say push ups on chest days and pull ups on back days you will essentially be adding a second work out per day....will help build lean mass.....try and allow 8 hours between sessions.......i do this when cycling and recovery time is better...works great.
I did something like this back in high school. 100 pull ups, 100 dips, 100 push-ups everyday (wore a back pack with added weights as I got stronger). I lifted an hour after school each day then at night would do this during commercial breaks of whatever show/game I was watching. 4 sets of 25 each, so each commercial break 25 pull ups push-ups then dips. Most ripped I've ever been about a decade before I even touched gear. However at the time I maxed out at 145 and have reached 255 this past year.
Down UnderHey bowyer, interesting you mention this...
I just finished reading an article (or 2) about this very same thing. Depending on what your goals are, this can be a very beneficial way to include some extra work.
Firstly, size. Just about every one who has half an idea about gaining mass knows that volume and time under tension are king. Looking at this, you should be able to instantly see how this will benefit you - working up to, say, 100 pull-ups a day, that is a FK load of volume.
Secondly, endurance. I know I know.. Endurance. You're probably not a marathon runner. BUT... Increasing endurance strength has it's benefits. I mean, after all, doing 20 pull-ups in a row compared to 10 in a row is better.
Thirdly, work capacity. Increasing your ability for work capacity has some good points.... Namely, you can do more work in a specified time frame!
Hope this helps
Still dont know how I feel about it, just looking for size and strength. That out of boot camp look is pretty damn nice lol.
Wouldn't be an all that bad second chest and back workout per week but everyday is a little much. If you are going for the after boot camp look and not for size then go for it.
Coryh11Funny you mention "after boot camp look" I went in to basic at MCRD around 200lbs probably 15-20% pretty good high school football shape; came out after 3 months 150lbs and 7-10%.
Smallest I have ever been since I was a baby
Which is Ironic, because my bro went to boot camp at MCRD about 4 years ago at 140lbs 10-15% and came out at 175lbs 15%. Weird
I went in boot camp 175 and came out 185. You actually don't work out that much, it's a shit load more mental and all you care about is food so you eat as much crap as you can when you get the chance. After my 4 years I came out 215 and that was after being within walking distance of a free gym everyday. Just had to find my first civi gym last month and I pay 30$ a month for a 40min round trip. Lots more pu$$y to look at though.
