+ 56 My 30 year journey from past to present by Mobman702,
Hello all. I have had my parts of the up's and downs in ones life so I thought I would share a little 30 year history of my travels so lets get to it.
Pic #1 is of me in 1984 competing in my FIRST show at 19yrs old in a State Teenage contest, 1st place finish.
Pic #2 was in 1986 at 21 yrs of age competing in the State Championships which I placed 3rd in middle weight division.
Pic #3 was in 1988 at 23 yrs of age competing in another State Championships but placed 1st light heavys and took the most muscular award BUT lost the overall to a light weight.. Wow. lots of boo's from the crowd.
Pic #4 and #5 are of May 2013 and August 2013 at a much older age this time around and still have the motivation to keep going as I will be turning 50 yrs old this month.
Now a new part of my career. After the contest in 1988, I decided to just retire from bodybuilding and try something different. I moved to another state to get a fresh start in life. Since I was bored not working out, I decided to get into the Martial Arts training as see how that worked out. Well fast forwarding a few years, I excelled rapidly and became a pure tournament fighter. From 1989 to 1996, I did nothing but compete 2 to 3 times a month in tournaments. My skill and success level increased so good I received full sponsorships from a few large companies. In 5 years of competing, I only lost 7 individual fights and never lost on a team competition. It was a lot of fun but my body once again took a beating over those years so I retired from the competitive circuit.
NOW the DOWNS. From 1997 to 2005, I went into a deep depression state of mind for some unknown reason. I quit all lines of training and got heavily into pain pills and downers and some alcohol. My life at this time was strictly working a job I hated, and then going home and immediately pounding down some beer then popping either some Soma, Vicodin or Xanax and passing out for the night. This was truly a down period for me and how I Iived for nearly 8 years.
Then one morning in 2005, I just woke up and looked at my sorry looking self in the mirror and said, this HAS TO STOP... It was the most painful and challenging experience for me EVER. To just stop those pills COLD turkey was horrible cuz the body wanted them bad. But I did it with NO help from anyone and returned to the gym once again to get back into shape and have been doing so ever since. This could be a lot longer but why stretch it. Eroids has been a blast to be apart of and I hope my journey can be looked at as a learning tool for the younger ppl on here. WE can accomplish what ever we set our minds to so just do it is what Mobman702 says to all.. Peace out ppl..

Hey mobman just wanted to say your story brought tears to my eyes I was in a bad car accident and the doctors put me on kinds of pain killers and they completely took over my life I didn't realize it first then one day I just said enough I was very depressed and had to find a way to get back to life so I got off my ass started hitting the gym again your story is truly inspirational it goes to show never quit never give up and always believe in your self and you can change your life !!!!!!!! Ps for being 50 you look awesome keep up the good work great story
Your very welcome buddy. Glad it brought you back home and realize that you can make the change if you really want to. Be proud of yourself for recognizing you had a problem and then remove yourself from it like I did and made a change for the better.. Glad you are on track in the right direction for good.. Thanks for the props as well. I plan to keep going as long as this old body lets me..
It appears that alot of our members have been through some sort of trying times similar to mine. And we all found the way out and moved on to a better way of life. Thnks for the props homie and r u sure u want some of this mass from this OLD man.. LOL.
Overcoming challenges are what brings the best out of us as people. Thanks for sharing, inspirational.
Couldn't say it any better SDM, that is just a fact bro..
i really enjoyed the story. its really crazy once you lose focus how fast it can fall apart, know that feeling all too well. you did an awesome job of bouncing back and are looking great now.
Thnks level. Glad u liked it and u r right , it is crazy how fast it can fall apart..living 8yrs of that life was pure misery. Never ever going back to that. Thnks for stopping by big guy.
NorthernTrustWhat you can't tell from that story, and for those of you that don't know him, he's genuinely a good guy too..
Thnks Big H, I try to be but u know that's sometimes a little difficult being a true Sicilian at times.. lol.

lift_heavy20Just chiming in on the motivational talk...thanks for the stories especially mobman and assuhl. Currently I am 24 and the past 3 years have fallen into my teen ways of drinking HEAVILY putting on weight, losing jobs for showing up drunk and messing up in school. I used to weigh 300lbs and got down to 188 2 years ago and I was happy. I went back to drinking and it fuked everything up back up to 229lbs which aint bad but still. Thanks for the inspiration drugs and alcohol are horrible.
Well we ALL here wish you well bud.. It is challenging for anyone to stop something that is so overwhelming on their own, but it can be done with determination and focus.. So my advise bro is to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, Are you happy or not.. That is what I did and something came over me and said NO so time for a change.. I wish you well bro...
Awsome. Amazing story. Mine was very similer. Was heavly addicted to pain meds. So i know how difficult that is to get threw. Once you go threw something like that it completly changes you. Keep fighting the good fight!
Thnks bro.. I totally agree with u on all what u said. Appreciate the props and it's all good now.

Thnks bro. Seems like alot of our brothers here have had similar events in their lives like mine and have been able to conquer and move on to better things too. Thanks for stopping by bud.
Awesome story! What did you train in? Ive been doing jiu jitsu overseas for the last 6 months.
Thnks bro. I did IKKA Kenpo Karate which was formed by Ed Parker.
AssUhlWow.....I love hearing a story of an individual overcoming the pain and darkness of drugs and alcohol! I too know that road. I boxed for 14 years from the age of 10-24 at which time a simple fight in a bar turned into 4 years in prison. When I got out I could not find a job or respect from anyone because of my rapsheet. Depression sunk in and I turned to Percocet heavily. I decided to quit and went to a recovery center where I was put on Suboxone which eventually had to come to an end as well where I suffered through the withdrawal for what seemed like forever, but I struggled through and began boxing and lifting again. Addiction is an extremely hard road to overcome at first causing even deeper depression along with a horrible feeling throughout your entire body day after day after day. Just getting out of bed in the morning seems like the impossible when your withdrawling and I applaud ANYONE who can overcome such a thing because for those who don't know, to say it is EXTREMELY difficult is a HUUUUUUGE undetstatement!!!!! Your a true MAN Mobman and you deserve to srand taller every day for what you've accomplished! Great job my friend and keep up the pace....at this point you are unstoppable! +1 wish I could give more!
Wow AssUhl, your story is truly AMAZING to say the least my friend. U r one to be commended as well for ALL u went through FoSho. . That prison time is very rough on anyone in so many ways I can only imagine what u had to go through to get your feet back on track. But u did and did it with pride and drive so u to sir deserve many props from me and all our eroids brothers for what u have accomplished. . Keep ur head up and moving forward never looking back bro. Thanks for stopping by. I enjoyed ur story.
hunteron20sTHIS IS A GREAT STORY OF HOW YOU CAN OVERCOME THE BAD SIDES OF LIFE IN GENERAL. .I WOULD THINK THIS CAN BE MOTIVATION TO OTHERS AND INCLUDING THAT OTHER PEOPLE DONT HAVE IT SO BAD OR CAN RELATE THEMSELVES,WHICH ALOT CAN ..GREAT SHARE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND THANKS FOR LETTING ME BE A FRIEND PLUS GET ADVISE FROM YA TOO..+1
Thnks for stopping by young man.. glad u liked it.
A riveting story, a challenging history and a triumphant man! I don't think their is a person here, who at some point in their life, languished in the mire of despair and hopelessness, and in turn succumbed to addictions to quiet the beast.
Kudos to you my brother for rising above life's trials and tribulations! I have a great respect for you for conquering your addictions and living life to the fullest once again!
Thank you for sharing your personal story with us and know that we too are rejoicing in your victories!!! Peace always to you my brother!
Beautifully muscled and shapely physique encompassing all three decades! + infinity!

Brother, you are most welcome! If ever you need anything, just let me know! :))
AnonGreat story brother.
You're 50 and look better than most 19 year olds and have experience under the belt.
+1 and my respect
Thnks Badger.. Coming from u that means alot for sure and I do appreciate u and all ur knowledge and experience. . Thnks for stopping by.
angusIt constantly amazes me the lives the people lead and the history that they have. You may never know it by talking to them or looking at them, but experience is a funny thing. It's not something that comes easy. The human spirit can endeavor to do just about anything it wants with the proper motivation. I think that you have seen a lot in your life and you have a lot to teach others. You have accomplished great feats and pulled yourself from great lows. Now is your time to teach and pass on to others that which you have learned the hard way. It's not too late to win a few more competitions though :-)
Thnks brotha man. Words well spoken I must say. I always try to help out any who asks for it but I'm am not a know it in anyway. I appreciate ur comments as always and respect all u do for this community. I will have to think about that competition thing though. .
damn all you old timers making me feel bad about myself lol. looking huge man. and i know how hard it is coming off the pills and alcohol cold turkey...props to you. glad i got mine under control when i did. nowhere to go but up right?
Absolutely my man. Up all the way for all of us. It is one hard thing to do in the COLD turkey routine. It totally sucked but in the end, I am back where I belong so it was worth all of it.. Thanks for sharing.
Cplvela0811Hey bro good shit man! Hard work for sure and dedication like I said +1 boss!
Thank you buddy. Hope it helps you someday if you ever get to that point..
Nice story. I can relate to your story very well. I also struggled with drugs for years. I lived a very destructive lifestyle. I made a decision to find something. I had no passion. No desire for anything, except bad things. That's when I made a choice to change my life around. Its either go down that evil path or take the path to victory, and that's when I found the bodybuilding lifestyle. In all honesty it saved my life and has made me a better person with discipline and structure in my life. Thank you for sharing your experience. +1
That in itself is a great victory on your standpoint my man. U found your relief and resolution to a NEW life style and you stuck to your guns. Kudos to you to bro, we both can relate to what it took to move on from the darkside.. thanks for sharing and stopping by..
