+ 56 My 30 year journey from past to present by Mobman702,

ad

Hello all. I have had my parts of the up's and downs in ones life so I thought I would share a little 30 year history of my travels so lets get to it.

Pic #1 is of me in 1984 competing in my FIRST show at 19yrs old in a State Teenage contest, 1st place finish.

Pic #2 was in 1986 at 21 yrs of age competing in the State Championships which I placed 3rd in middle weight division.

Pic #3 was in 1988 at 23 yrs of age competing in another State Championships but placed 1st light heavys and took the most muscular award BUT lost the overall to a light weight.. Wow. lots of boo's from the crowd.

Pic #4 and #5 are of May 2013 and August 2013 at a much older age this time around and still have the motivation to keep going as I will be turning 50 yrs old this month.

Now a new part of my career. After the contest in 1988, I decided to just retire from bodybuilding and try something different. I moved to another state to get a fresh start in life. Since I was bored not working out, I decided to get into the Martial Arts training as see how that worked out. Well fast forwarding a few years, I excelled rapidly and became a pure tournament fighter. From 1989 to 1996, I did nothing but compete 2 to 3 times a month in tournaments. My skill and success level increased so good I received full sponsorships from a few large companies. In 5 years of competing, I only lost 7 individual fights and never lost on a team competition. It was a lot of fun but my body once again took a beating over those years so I retired from the competitive circuit.

NOW the DOWNS. From 1997 to 2005, I went into a deep depression state of mind for some unknown reason. I quit all lines of training and got heavily into pain pills and downers and some alcohol. My life at this time was strictly working a job I hated, and then going home and immediately pounding down some beer then popping either some Soma, Vicodin or Xanax and passing out for the night. This was truly a down period for me and how I Iived for nearly 8 years.

Then one morning in 2005, I just woke up and looked at my sorry looking self in the mirror and said, this HAS TO STOP... It was the most painful and challenging experience for me EVER. To just stop those pills COLD turkey was horrible cuz the body wanted them bad. But I did it with NO help from anyone and returned to the gym once again to get back into shape and have been doing so ever since. This could be a lot longer but why stretch it. Eroids has been a blast to be apart of and I hope my journey can be looked at as a learning tool for the younger ppl on here. WE can accomplish what ever we set our minds to so just do it is what Mobman702 says to all.. Peace out ppl..

Yo Yo Yo ole fart.. It has and does keep me going. I NEVER want to go back to those DARK times.. I still don't even know why it happened to this day but it did. I use other motivational things to keep me going now days and it works so I see NO need for a change anytime soon. I appreciate you always big homie and you know we keep it REAL talk for us..

It's not the twists and turns that life throws your way, it's how you respond to them that defines you.
Depression is a horrible disease and still very misunderstood. Congrats on getting your life back.
Oh, and by the way, I hit 50 last month...it's only a number. +1

I struggled with narcotics too bro. Started with an injury, got lorcet and then kept taking more and more powerful opiates and benodiazepines until it ruined my life.

withdrawing off those substances is horrible i know that pain and anxiety. Glad you moved on brother and found your way back to a healthy way of living! +1

Thanks MAC, we both know the challenges it presents to ones abilities to wanna move on OR stay dormant and achieve nothing.. Glad you moved as well like myself..

Much respect Big Homie. Competition pics look great Brutha. I feel ya on the DOWNS. I think we all go through that sometime in our life. It was the same for me. As I got older, work seemed to consume me and the gym got neglected and I fell into some bad habits to cope. It was easier to bounce back into shape in my 30s but the 40s are way more challenging. Looking good MOB. Keep up the great work. Very inspirational. I need to step my game up.

I thank you Hail. We both have had our journeys to share and will continue as long as we are around..
