The world boxing commission and international boxing federation ,even ring magazine disagree with you.
AnonSkill yes but greatness takes more than just skill bro. Would u say Ali and Frazier had no skill just because they decided to stand and brawl? Greatness! Did Bowe Holyfield have no skill? Common theme? Brain damage. But they achieved greatness. Mayweather will always be known as the best the sport had seen at his weight. But he will never be great because he cares too much about his face and his health. Do I blame him? Hell no I don't. But ill never be confused as to who inspired the planet and generations of young boxers. If Mayweather is doing those things then yes it's official Boxing is as dead as it gets. Sad because I was raised by a man who's life philosophy was to put on some gloves and solve ur problems. When me and my friends argued around my grandpa he always went into his room and pulled out the gloves. If anyone backed down they weren't allowed back over.
I don't knock mayweathers skill. He's great. End of story.
Mike1982So are you saying he isnt great because he doesnt brawl? That arguement goes both ways. You are equating greatness with brawling. It just doesnt hold any weight. All you keep saying is because these others were brawlers they are greater. Once again, this isnt a street fight, Just because someone perfected, or let me say, damn near perfected an art doesnt and shouldt take anything away from him, Its called the evolution of the sport. Just because you want a brawl doesnt mean hes any less of anything. If you can see he actually has punching power. He just doesnt throw punches from conventional angles that let that power load. He throws shorter shots which allows him to maximize his speed. yes it does sacrifice power but it lets the speed come full throttle. Look at his KO percentage in lower weight classes. then look at how he changed his style to be more defensive and took quicker angles and his KO percentage dropped. Thats called adjusting for the potential danger. You can be as badass and tough as you want to be, but if you cant hit your target flush then what does you power matter?
AnonBro have u even seen Ali Frazier? Or Gotti Ward? Or Bowe Holyfield? Or Morrales Berrera? Yes I am saying he will never be great in my eyes as a LEGEND becuase he doesn't ever stand and go toe to toe. It's my fucking opinion. Sorry u don't like my opinion but I'm not changing because u want me too. Sorry he will never be in the same breathe as Louis Marciano Ali Frazier Leonard Hearns Chavez. Boxing isn't just a defensive sport. Last time I checked u are supposed to have a good offense. The LEGENDS have both. They can slip punches like a legend and they can brawl like a legend. I have yet to see him do that for more than one round at a time.
Mike1982You can believe I've watched just as many if not more than you have. I have DVDs and VHS and DVR'ed fights from every era. How far back does your knowledge go? Have you watched fights from the earliest times of the 1900's. All you keep repeating is the great fights of brawlers because that's your opinion of what boxing should be. Just because floyd makes his opponents look subpar and he takes away their strengths your haterade overruns the facts. How can you say the legends had defense whe. The only fights you mention are brawls where they both got their asses kicked. What defense? I don't care if you change your opinion. The facts are the facts and facts overtake opinion any day.
AnonAll of these fight u want to watch 30yrs later. They will still be exciting and important 30yrs from now. Not one of Mayweathers fights will anyone want to watch 30yrs from now.
I respect Mayweather and honestly appreciate his strategy and technique. It's amazing. But u won't catch me ever saying to anybody hey lets watch this legendary Mayweather fight 30yrs from now
Mike1982They might want blood but i will never fault a man for putting his body and family before other people. they might want blood but they buy tickets and order pay per view on the hopes that they get to see Mayweather bleed. They got a little of that in the Cotto fight. You can see the history of how boxers bodies fail them after brutal fights. The list is very long and will continue to be so. I just dont agree with the fact they all want blood. A lot of us that have been in and around the sport watch it for the art. Watching it for blood is like being disappointed that an NFL game wasnt a shootout but was a defensive battle instead. Nobody said you are blind or retarded. He might not excite most of the fans but who cares, yall still watch the fight regardless. If theres no excitement then why is he still the biggest draw? Why do you still bet on it or even watch it? If its not because of Mayweathers lack of excitement then its obviously to see him bleed. Because if its not for that reason then your point has no validity. Canelo has never come close to the gate just the name Mayweather brings. Will i bet on Mayweather? I already have. Will i be sad if he loses? hell no.
hopefully not. even though theres alot of fixed fights in boxing :(
i cant tell if theres alot of canelo fans, or just people that dont like mayweather lol
I'm watching it. I think Canelo really has a chance and I would love to see the mouth mayweather lose. I'm giving it to Canelo in the 5th via Tko
JuiceFreaki think its hard to say mayweather is 36 and the kid is 23 i think the kid is stronger but mayweather has much experience 1 shot tho is all it takes
That's the most bullshit reason I've heard yet. Mayweather is 36 and show me a fighter with better conditioning or work ethic. Not to mention in 17 years fighting he has taken NO PUNISHMENT in the ring. The man doesn't get hit. So you can't compare him to a normal 36 year old human. You can say he's in his late 20's physically. That being said, he's been here before. Countless times. The big bright lights, the top competition , world class fighters. One by one broke them all down without taking any punishment. The age is Not a factor
A boring (VERY BORING) technical mis match. Canelo is a very exciting young buck. But he isn't ready for this! He might get lucky and corner Floyd once or twice getting a roar out of the crowd, but the punches won't be clean (they never are in a Mayweather fight) and he will get picked apart systematically. If he gets frustrated at his inability to penetrate the Philly Shell shoulder roll, he will get overly aggressive and walk into a big punch that will he the beginning of the end for him. Floyd Mayweather, love hm or hate him, is the most gifted fighter on the planet. Call him what you want, the man can fight! He has the most immaculate defense in the history of the sport and is so fluid when the throws that its like poetry in motion.
Mike1982x2 Enough said
Anondid someone say.... Muta Mayweather
Mike1982YESSSSS...bring it back!!!
...haha if floyds running that stuff on saturday id like to change my bets.
Mayweather late knockout. If I'm being honest that ain't the fight I'm looking forward to most on the bill, Garcia v Matthysse IMO will be fight of the night ;) I called it way back on one of Nittis's boxing posts as the fight I would like to see happen more than any other. Matthysse has 32 knockouts of 34 fights, highest Ko % in modern day boxing. Good night of fights to come peeps!!
Garcias dad was talkinh maaad shit! Lmao... I cant wait for that one too!!
Canelo by knockout......!
Canelo will come out hard in rounds 1&2 and have the crown in an uproar. Then in the 3rd and 4th Mayweather will come back strong from reserved energy as planned but in later rounds maybe 8th or 9th Canelo will catch Mayweather being cocky as usual and knock him down to win! New Era of boxing ladies is coming!
Mike1982Mayweathers ring dominance will win in the end. Yes Canelo can punch harder and is younger but he will be punching Floyds left shoulder like everyone else. Can Canelo win, of course. Any punch can happen at any time. But if you think Floyd will get knocked out or even lose by decision then youre A. Hoping for luck and B. Sadly mistaken. You can hate all you want but doing what Floyd has done for a decade and a half, you are foolish to think or even say you know he will lose. There is no blueprint for someone who dominates the ring, has stamina that has yet to be topped, has eye contact better than anyone since Ali, and who adjusts in the ring like no other. Hate him all day but his skills cannot be denied. Thats just the facts and if you argue otherwise you obviously do not know boxing. Canelo may look good but he hasnt entered a ring with someone like this. This isnt a puncher he is stepping in the ring with. This is a skilled tactician that, besides being a brawler, has dominated in every facet of the sport against every opponent he has faced. Can he lose, of course...Will he lose, my money i've already laid down says NO. 8 rounds to 4 MAYWEATHER.
Sounds like u know ur stuff :-) .. that fact that we all (myself included) have to add the qualifying statements like "anything can happen" is enough for me to go against my crowd of friends. The odds for challenger arent as good in the past but im thinkin of puttin a little down on the kid just to make it interesting. I do know a little about the science but Im gonna go with the gut feeling over my normally logical deduction. That ... and the fact that A ginger mexican is about as close as i have to a quality irish boxer to route for now that duddy is washed up. Someday im gonna have to come to grips with the fact that the ward v gotti fights were likely the best i'll ever see live. Either way :-) looking forward to saturday.
Mike1982The fact that you got to see Ward and Gotti live makes me jealous as hell haha. Arturo was a class act and one hell of a fighter. He took some serious punishment from mayweather and if he could see, he would've never given up. Saturday will no doubt be a great fight but Mayweather is just a completely different monster. If it was a street fight then we all know Mayweather wouldn't be able to compete with most of the guys he steps in the ring with. But, this is a sport with rules that he knows how essentially manipulate and use to his advantage along with the skills he has acquired. We still can't take away the fact that the man trains his ass off and his stamina and skills may be, in a way, genetic, but his record has a way of speaking for itself. Canelo, in my opinion, just isnt ready for someone like Floyd. Would I be upset that Mayweather gets knocked out...NO, the man has made and will continue to make hundreds of millions. His estimated take for this fight is at the low end. $80 million and $128 million on the high end. He will be just fine lol. But that doesn't mean he hasn't earned it nor does it mean we can take away from the fact that besides Ali he may be the best to ever do it. You can't compare him to earlier generations really because just like in life, the skills have evolved to a different level. Man what I would give to see Ali Frazier 3. Those were some battles my friend. I've watched so many fights from almost every era and they might not make em like they used to but who needs that when you have the Philly shell defense and the perfection of the shoulder roll. Mayweather has issues with his left shoulder because of the beating it has taken, I think that's why his lead right has become so effective and the punch he has used the most. His jab is still very effective and you can never sleep on his check left. He will break you down with these three. Canelo, I believe has too many holes. Especially his ability to be countered by the speed of Mayweather. Canelo needs to throw two and three at a time at Floyd to increase his chances of landing that "shot heard round the world". If he can land that shot and put mayweather down for the full ten, trust me, I will be just fine losing the money I laid down haha. I just don't see it happening though. If Floyd has any hint of danger he will go back to one punch at a time and just try to pull out the decision off defense and pot shotting. That's why I don't think Canelo will win. Floyd is too good at manipulating the game. People can hope for Mayweather to get knocked out or even sound confident in those words but the facts just don't support their hopes. And its a slim hope at that. He has ended many undefeated fighters in his 17 years of prize fighting and his generalship of the ring , i believe, will be too much for the youngster.
Well Said Sir-
To clarify the ward-gotti statement- i wasnt in the building (i wish). I just meant i watched those battles unfold in real time glued to the screen surrounded by screaming uncles and cousins. And im not like to see that type of genuine emotional investment in fight ever again. Lets hope im mistaken. So just for that I gotta hope for the upset like you said..... be it a lucky punch or creeping age, or simply a changing of the guard... in the pit of my stomach i Want something to be excited about. If Floyd wins again- oh well.. big deal. Everyone saw that coming.. but if he DOESNT.. well now. Weve got something to watch. That next fight will have incredible energy surrounding it. That outcome would be better for the sport for sure. Remember what it was like before the klitschko's had the heavyweight division in a coma induced headlock? Its the unpredictable and unimaginable that make this game worth a damn. Tarver and roy jones.. buster douglas and tyson.. the whole sport needs an injection. If not an enema. So im gonna let it ride :-)
Mayweather will win unanimous decision is my prediction
I got money on mayweather...but Canelo looks real fucking good. Better than anybody mayweather has ever fought.
Hopefully Canelo knocks his damn head off
I doubt a knockout- but im going with 2 knockdowns. 3rd and 8th. Floyd has more total touches but Rounds go to Canelo 7 to 5.
my prediction is mayweather 9-3!
I can dream can't I? Lol
Yessir- Anyone can be beat. And more importantly anything can happen on any given day. If the fight goes the full distance with 0 knockdowns... I don't see any outcome other than Floyd on top- BUT he had better stay his usual Technical self.... His success is largely based on his defense and the inability of anyone to connect solid. I honestly cant remember the last time I saw him Hit firm on the noggin. This kid is quick, he has a lot of Power.. even in the jab; but most important for this particular fight- is the fact that his punches come in from from Really odd angles and That, I think, will be his #1 weapon. Floyd need only missjudge one or two to change the fight. He wont be able to take more than a small handful of blows from that ginger.
Mike1982Dont forget Mosely landing square on Floyds jaw and you saw the outcome of that one, and Shane is one of the hardest punchers in the history of the division. If this fight goes past 9 rounds, which i think it will, Canelo will wear down. He might look good physically but he is not ready for someone like Floyd. His own manager said that a year and a couple months ago. I think he should have waited another year or two and fought some more big fighters in the process. BUT, this is prize fighting and the sport needed a huge fight since Marquez knocked Manny out.
I like both these guys- Floyds record speaks for itself- and Canelo's is less than remarkable as he hasn't laid down anyone worth remembering. But Ive been going back and watching a few of his fights- i just have a funny feeling about this one..... Im taking the upset with all my friends. If nothing else but to make it interesting.
Canelo will get beat like the rest.. I personally don't like mayweather and wish he would get his ass beat but its not happening sat night
