Is Prami supposed to taste sweet?

ad

I bought 1mg tablets of Mirapex (Prami) which means I've had to cut the tab into 1/8 initially and now 1/4. I've actually gone further to ensure dosing accuracy. Each tab weighs .2 grams. So I crush the tab in a mortar and pestle, and weigh .05 grams to achieve .25mg.

It tastes like sugar and this is concerning since of course bunk products are often sugar pills. So the big question is: is Prami supposed to taste like sugar?

That being a mcg dose compound would make it highly unlikey to have any taste what so ever from the prami it self. That basically leaves the binder and the coloring agent to make up the rest of the tab weight. If the binder is made for none sublingual use it won't dissolve that well and will probably taste bad if you chew it up. If a binder is made for sublingual use then it will dissolve faster and taste better because now its sitting under your tongue or between your cheek and gum until it melts away. But when in doubt buy B.T.P. products and you will never have to worry about it being fake goods. Hope that helps. I'm not a chemist or medical person. I'm just a roid user.

put it in a cup of water, and the taste goes away

I actually like the taste bro. It's sweet. And that's why I'm asking about the taste. Never has a crushed tablet tasted sweet to me. It doesn't seem right for it to taste like sugar.

Bro, the total weight of each tablet is .2 grams. Within that .2 grams (of weight) is 1mg of Prami. So in order to get .25mg of Prami, I crush it and weigh out .05 grams of powder giving me .25mg Prami which I just lick off the little tray on the scale. This particular scale weighs as little as .001 gram.

I wouldn't rely too much on a scale that only reads 3 places past decimal...

Denser's picture

I've thought of this. A potential problem, I also thought is that it's not a safe assumption that the tablet dissolves well in water. If the tab has some from of oil or other insoluble material, then you won't get a complete dissolving and therefore inconsistent dosing. This is why I went with a micro scale.

Denser's picture

How can you say that solubility shouldn't factor into it? Does sand dissolve in water? Think of it that way and you'll get where I'm coming from. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I can certainly imagine a substance in the tablet that does not dissolve and I think that certainly does matter - the way sand would sink to the bottom of water (the liquid you propose).

And you actually nailed it when saying that crushing multiple pills and mixing thoroughly. I do this before weighing my dose. I think it's the best way to get an accurate sub-dose.

Thanks for the input, bro. This is a good discussion.

Thanks for your input Muta.

you're ingesting like 50mcg

Is the above reference to 50mcg in regard to the actual active ingredient(s) or the binder(s)?

Also, I'm only referring to the fact that I've never had any med in tablet form crushed or whole ever taste anything like sugar... I should rephrase: taste sweet

So, you're saying that sometimes the binder is sweet?

I'm admittedly confused by your response buddy.

Denser's picture

Ha... maybe I haven't taken enough pills over the years to come across any sweet ones.

j223's picture

yup especially the low dose ones too. I think the pharma companies do it to get little kids to enjoy the taste, addicted at an early age and stuck for life

Denser's picture

Bro, that's brilliant. Pharma companies are great at ruthless marketing.

Denser's picture

Yes, it weighs .2 grams so that's 200mgs. So you're referring to the weight of the Prami being 50mcg, correct? And that means that my .25mg dose which weighs .05 grams (50mg) only contains 50mcg in weight of Prami and that 49.05mg is pre-solve masking agent which may very well taste sweet. Is this correct?

Frankly, I'm not at all concerned with the weight. I only used the weight of each tablet as a reference for dividing the tablet accurately - based on weight as opposed to cutting with a pill cutter which I find very sloppy. Weight is all I can use as a reference for accurately dividing a tablet. I'm certain that if I had a full scale lab, I could use other methods ;-)

.

So I crush the tab in a mortar and pestle, and weigh .05 grams to achieve .25mg.

that's pointless. you do realize there is binder right?

just break the pill into 4's lol

Denser's picture

Breaking the pill into 1/4ths is not accurate. I have a very good pill cutter and it cuts unevenly because the pill can only take so much so to speak. So the tablet ends up in 4 parts which are fairly evenly divided, but no exact.

And just because it has binders, how does that make cutting it more exact as far as dosage? Weighing the 1mg tablet (they're all .2 grams), then crushing it in a mortar and pestle, then weighing .05 grams of the crushed powder is what I do. So what does the tablet binders have to do with it? If the powder is very well mixed, which it is, then the active ingredient(s) will be evenly distributed.

Am I missing something?

j223's picture

well I just take 0.5mg prami so try split in half and do that if you can handle that dose

Denser's picture

Okay bro, I was thinking of upping the dose anyway. Just got back some blood work results from yesterday. Prolactin is 11, normal is 4 -15.2.

prami is one of the most awful tasting things ive ever had in pill or liquid. no it shouldnt taste like suger

Denser's picture

Thanks for the input Wags. This is what I was looking for. I can see a liquid tasting awful, but when you've taken the pill, it also tasted awful?
