+ 1 Muscle Twitching
ad
There's a cluster of muscle fibers on both sides of my quads and biceps that randomly start twitching. It occurs periodically throughout the day and I have absolutely no control over it. Each time it might twitch 4-5 times in quick succession.
Does anyone know what causes this?

Sometimes I get this as well in my quads when I am sitting relaxing but sorry can't help with the cause mate
AnonUPDATE: STILL TWITCHING IN THE SAME SPOT NON-STOP. BLAHHHHH
wny_muscle x2 take magnesium and do not sodium deplete
This usually happens to me in a muscle group that I've overworked on a day when I may have drank too much H20 and started flushing electrolytes accidentally. I've had it terribly in the lats, delts and tris. Added in some trace minerals and it helped to keep this in check.
This is a very non-specific and common physical sign. These are fasiculations which are irritated motor nerve clusters which are randomly firing because of inflammation, physical stress from exercise, sleep deprivation, caffeine or other meds/drugs, or less likely salt/water balance/ hydration or mineral status. Its annoying but will go away on its own with rare exception unless its something worse. Mg may help but high doses will give you diarrhea- which is why its used in laxatives.
AnonI think right now I am going to up my intake of water, that usually seems to be the cure for most problems. If the twitching persists, I will take different measures. Thank you all for your help! I knew I could find the right answers here

After a week you could drop even to once ed 500 or split the 500 and might find its all in check.
AnonThank you Tread
Will do.

One more thing magnesium can cause gas pains and diarrhea when too much is consumed. So if you experience those symptoms you will know you have more than you need
I'm so glad you said that. I thought it was something else. Lol thank you bro I'm gonna +1 you I been having a hell of a week!
Lol. I learned that the hard way in the most inconvenient setting. But that is how I know now first it feels like something is twisting your intestines not normal type of gas. And then the explosions. The good news is stop all together and it will clear up fast. Good luck I have felt your pain.
ok pank I had a colonoscopy and had to drink magnesium and that never happened to me...how the hell much magnesium were you taking lol
That was the funny thing I didn't think I took that much but my colon had thoughts of its own. I was taking that ZMA every night first week it was great. Then I started in morning with hellish cramps and I will not be graphic with what followed. I stopped the ZMA which was the only magnesium supplement and it clear up in a day. But it gave a whole new meaning to hell week
I never heard of ZMA what is that? women are always constipated so maybe I should look into it lol ;-o
Yeah I think ZMA is a great supplement. I will use it sparingly now it makes you have crazy dreams which I personally enjoy. I have to say the combination of ingredients taken at night I could see a difference in getting leaner.
some people respond different than others. I'm sure your body was absorbing the magnesium at a much quicker rate so your body needed it more.
AnonThank you for your logical response.. Jokes are usually taken to the Off Topic Section.

it was a joke between pank and I...didn't require a logical response but tks
Yeah extremely painful twisting intestines is a perfect description. I seriously thought my liver was failing or something. thanks. I probably get enough mag in my diet anyways
I am glad the info could help. I honestly think I have hurt myself more with vitamin and mineral overdosing then any aas.
That's lovely! Lol.
tread-mThat helps me a lot I just roll 1500 but I'm taking a guess I'm bigger than you : )
I used to have that very often.
It's usually related to a vitamin deficiency. Or mineral, I can't remember which. Magnesium or potassium and a few others.
One way you can find out if you are meeting your total nutrition needs in your diet is to go to fitday.com and log in your foods. It will make a chart that shows everything your calories, fats, carbs etc it also shows your daily vitamin and mineral intake and shows if you are lacking anything. I'm willing to bet you may be low in some areas and if you brought it up the twitching would most likely stop.
Also make sure to drink plenty water.
tread-mMag/pot/water all 3 yes but mag the most important probably as to the twitches and spasms. Nice brudda
AnonThank you j223, I believe you are correct about lacking the vitamins and water

anyways you are pretty low on iron, vitamin c, vitamin d, vitamin e, calcium, magnesium, copper, thiamin, and zinc.
maybe add some fruit. the only veggies I saw you eat is broccoli which is good, but not very nutrient dense. I'd consider adding an apple, banana, and peanuts. Maybe almonds
AnonOH yes.. I do eat almonds about a 1/4 to a half cup and a banana at breakfast.. I sometimes skip those.. I better not now
ok well calcium and vitamin D you REALLY need to get up. Muscle twitching is a symptom of low calcium.
AnonI think I better go chug a half gallon of milk ;P
hehe I usually add 1-2 cups of milk with each protein shake. Besides 2% lowfat milk only has 5g fat and 10g protein per cup and that would help bring up your vitamin d and calcium levels
Anonif you're gonna drink milk which I actually do not recommend drink organic milk...you do not need the extra hormones ...almond milk is a wonderful source of vitamin D and calcium and you won't have the mucus producing affects of milk...I have never drank milk....the whole milk thing is supported by big Agra..
