How do you guys resist the urge to help people in the Gym!!!

ad

Just curious how everyone here resist the urge to say something to people at the gym who are using such horrible form they are going to hurt themselves. Just the other day I watched a young small guy doing lateral raises with like 50 lb dumbells and he was literally throwing his whole body to move them. Then a dude walked in did not do any warm up or light reps and proceeded to pick up 80 lb dumbells for which he could barely do 1 rep of flat bench.. It goes on, a 70 year old dude throwing his self in the air, butt and body off the seat, while trying to do leg extensions with the rack.. All these dudes had me like Wtf, I wanted to say something so bad, but I took a deep breath and kept it movin!! just see these dudes getting ready to hurt themselves because of stupidity..I don't want to be that guy,but maybe they just don't know any better..Your thoughts/comments.

Don't bother mate, When I am in the gym I am focusing purely on Me, Myself and I.. As everyone else should be.. If someone asks for a spot that's all good.

I find it helpful to phrase things like, "Oh yeah try it this way it definitely hits whatever bodypart better for me. Ive done it the way youre doing and its good but I can really feel the squeeze this way".

Whats the rules on spotting someone. Theres times I see someone struggling to do even 4 reps and am tempted to help spot but not sure if thats appropriate. Moreso if its a girl but figure they may think I'm hitting on them.

I just don't want to be that guy! If they ask ill help but other than that I try not to even look at people guys or girls. Too shy I'd rather get in and get out. For me I'm just not good with new people especially women... Lol. If they ask I absolutely will help though. Other than that I wish I was invisible.

You've got to let them learn on their own. I'll admit that I used to lift improperly for quite a long time with certain movements or lifts. It was a tough learning process that made me progress to where I am now. But consistently learning is the key to success on how I control and connect myself to my body. These techniques are far advanced from where most people are or would like to even be. How do you teach someone that? Answer is let them learn on their own and if they're serious enough and willing to hear advice on lifting they will come to you. Over 90% of gym members lift incorrectly and if they don't put in the effort neither should you.

Abaddon will help just a little "hey, man try this." Me on the other hand.. I had and experience like Mrs, Nitti.. tried to help a lady out and her hubby was pissed.. He didn't say anything to me but made sure I heard him tell her she was to do the workout as he designed it.. Poor girl hasn't made any progress in months.. but I say nothing now.

I resist the urge by focusing on my sets, focusing on my goals. Plain and simple, when I walk in that front door I am in focus mode. I don't even see anyone or anything except my task at hand. I put on my favorite playlist and get to work. I am at the gym for one reason and one reason only...to break down my muscle fibers. CT and the bros can have that snap city shit if that is what works for them.

I hear ya...it hurts my eyes to see some of them. A couple months back I switched to a somewhat more hardcore gym and it's not so bad as before. Like most, I tend to keep my music cranked and mind my own business...but once, I was watching this guy doing standing alternating dumbell curls with way too heavy db's. He was barely able to stand and his whole body was gyrating throughout the 'movement'. I was nearby and couldn't contain myself. I put my head down into my hands and laughed hysterically.

It just amazes the hell out of me in this day and age of knowledge at your finger tips that people are too lazy to look around.

I don't say anything unless.. If I see them weekly and I get the feeling they plan on putting in effort I may start being friendly and after a few exchanges of small talk I'll throw in my two cents..

I don't say "You're doing this wrong." I say "Yeah bro I tried it that way and it didn't work out to well for me.. So now I do it thisssss way".. I find being friendly and relating to them always ends with them listening.. Vs pissing them off and coming off like one of those pompous know it all gym members

I hear ya head it's hard to watch. I workout at the y cause it's the only gym near me, and let me tell u I c this all the time. Like avacado said if they r near me I'll try to help them out most of the time. There r a bunch of old men and women in there that have no idea what they are doing. I prolly give the the most advice and they listen. I've found most youngsters listen that day and the next time I c em they r back to the same old shit. Sometimes I just keep to myself unless asked.

best not to say anything.

If it's a young kid who obv has no idea and hes working out in the same area as me, I'll quietly tell him whats up as to not embarrass him. Anyone else is pretty much on their own unless they ask.

I'm the same way. There's always that "guy" that tries to solicit advice or tells ppl "you're doing that wrong". Can't stand that guy... But a youngster that don't know any better has that coming as far as I'm concerned.
