i dont think its a one size fits all type of deal when it comes to being a successful personal trainer. There are many ways that this can be accomplished. I use the term successful subjectively. From the trainers I have seen over the years and have been friends with, all of them have completely different personalities that made them successful in their own ways. 1. was a professional bodybuilder. this was a no brainer for a lot of guys/girls that wanted to compete and go that route. they wanted someone who is a pro, he's got the look, been at it for almost 2 decades, etc. 2nd guy was just a very approachable, genuine type of guy. he had this general concern for people and changing their lives with fitness. he was in good shape, nothing out of this world, natural guy, but people believed in him and knew he had their best interest in mind. 3 was a girl who was overweight and lost a lot of weight. just like Makwa's GF, they seen her lose all this weight and get in great shape they wanted to know how she did it. She put in the hard work of educating herself on training and diet that she could teach it. Had a few people come up to her asking if she would train them and before you know it, had a swarm of people following suit.

you can be excellent in sales but that will just make you an excellent salesperson, but once the training begins, it does not mean you are a successful PT.

RESULTS.

My girlfriend lost 60 pounds while training with me at the gym. Everybody saw how much she lost and how good she looks now. She was constantly being bombarded by women and men at the gym about how she lost it all and if she could help them with a program, so she got this wild idea about becoming a personal trainer. She is now a certified PT and has people lining up to get advice and training. the gym also hired her now to instruct aerobics. She is a good inspiration for alot of people at the gym.

i have two certs from nasm and working on a 3rd. i know from experience, attitude, networking and being able to communicate well are the benchmarks for a successful trainer. its takes a great deal of time and some luck to become successful in fitness field. until my woman got sick i average 5-7 clients a day, i primarily worked with athletes, from mma, basketball, football, wrestling, track and swimming. i had an amazing reputation around my area. i had a six month waiting list for new clients. i will admit my success came way of luck. i helped a guy out for a lil who turned out to be a pro mma fighter, and his best friend actually fights in the UFC and he got me in to that gym and shit exploded for me. it takes on average at least two years to develop good clients. i dont have a home gym so i traveled quite a bit. sometimes hours for one client.

all the guys im friends with who are personal trainers do extremely well because of how personable they are. they also dont stop helping their clients when they leave the gym they throw diet at them and everything we just believe is a given to understand because most people know nothing about what diet can do

You are not supposed to write down diet plan for a client unless u are also a dietician thats illegal. Its ok to give advice about diet i did that when i was a trainer. My prof who also was a trainer in my strength training class said never write down a diet plan for someone.
