Straps if necessary, but try out chalk. On my heaviest sets of BB deads I just use chalk and don't really have a problem with the bar slipping and I keep a solid grip. I only use straps on my rowing movements when necessary. Grip strength will also help. You can buy these things called fat grips. You put it around the barbell or one on each dumbell and practice with that. When you go back to the normal bar it will be much easier to get a grip! Plate pinches are great and farmers walk. If you do decide to begin grip training make sure you have enough rest between grip training and deadlift day, like 2-3 days before you deadlift or it will be harder to grip!

A kid in the gym had those fat gripz and I gave them a try on some DB curls. Much more difficult to do. I had to drop the weight to get my normal amount of reps in. My forearms started burning and gave out before my biceps. They take a little getting used to but they will definitely work your forearms and grip.

Its funny my gym has those signs too. The gym ownership has changed quite a few times and the membership has been pretty constant, a lot of hardcore lifters. So when those signs went up nobody gave a shit and kept on bringing the chalk in anyways. There's always chalk around the squat racks and deadlift area. I think if they actually enforced the rule they would probably have a mass exodus of members.

Try using straps for your heavier deadlifts. Your forearms won't give out and you will probably be able to conenctrate better on your deadlifts because you won't be worried about if your forearms are going to burn out. In the meantime work some DB or BB wrist curls into your workout to help strengthen your forearms.
