How do you curl ?
ad
Straight bar ? Dumb bells ? EZcurl ? or Preacher ?
Ive been using dumb bells and an EZ bar, but recently saw that a straight bar is best. Anyone have results from testing each out ?

how about all of thee above
waltri like seated preacher curl 21s. 7 low, 7 high, 7 full range, i use an e-z curl bar for these as my wrist tends to start aching after a lot of straight bar usage
not in the squat rack
waltrexclusively in the squat rack
sgtstedankoI personally like sets of triple stop ez bar curls, drink some water, & then immediately into incline dumbbell curls. I think I've gotten the best results from those two.
Barbell straight bar is probably best for gaining size, I like to perform this by lying frontwards on an incline bench to prevent swinging.
Concentration curl is also one of the best for increasing the 'peak' on your biceps, bare in mind technique is more important than the weight!
I do barbell curls with medium grip 4 sets of 10 reps pyramiding the weight and decreasing the rep with each set.
then scott curls using a e-z curl bar.concentrating on a full range of movement and a full extension at the bottom of the movement to the extent of my arm being almost straight.pyramid weight decrease reps each set. 4 sets of 10 reps
then incline dumbell curls with the bench set at about a 70% incline.pyramiding again 4 sets again
then hammer curls but done on the scott curl bench to further isolate the muscle.4sets again
occasionally I will do 21's to give a great pump
I do all of these on bicep day
Anonshake weight anyone? hahahaha jk jk.
Anonstanding barbell curl 140lbs. 21's and 60lbs inclined and regular curls.
85 pound dumbbells, FOR REPS
I really don't. Here and there might do some DB curls of some sort..but I believe back exercises stimulate the bis enough...but I am not a competitor of any sort.
I always fill it in my bi's when doing dumbbell curls, but lately ive been doing drag curls, it works the biceps, brachialis, and the forearms. what more could you ask for?
I once saw Tread do a weiner curl with a 85 lb dumbell. He was drunk, but it was still quite impressive.
85? He must have been shy around you. I saw him do 115lbs. Haha
Ez curl, barbell, hammer curls, iso dumbbell curls, all of them
All the above... Its always good to change it up to hit all the angles in your Muscles.
when I was younger and hitting the gym frequently as a bodybuilder, straight bar was used (among many other exercises and pieces of equipment of course); now that I've gotten older and learned more, it's very rare I use a straight bar unless I am limited in my selection of workout equipment. everything these guys have already mentioned will work, there are many exercises and in time you will learn more, have you learned spider curls? if not, Google it and try it.. one of the first biceps exercise I learned was a seated concentration curl, when done right it does wonders for shape, try that one also ;-)
How long have you been working out? Curious.
I just recently did the math and myself and it's been 19 years total experience.. that's NOT counting martial arts as a kid.. that's only counting time with the iron.
AnonI have worked out since I was about 14, but stopped in my late twenties when I was trying to keep my head above water running a business. Although through those years it was always more of what Id call a "fitness" routine than a BB
So its been roughly 12-14 years since Ive lifted any weights at all.
Have been back at a solid routine since early spring of this year.
Never heard of the spider, so I'll do exactly as you suggest and call the google ;)
Love spider curls.. No swinging movement at all ALL BICEP.;)
MultipurposeWide grip barbell, close grip ez, reverse barbell, cable.
AnonAh some good advice guys , thanks ! As I said Ive been doing EZ and DB, I'll start to mix it up more. again thanks !
Give them a vote if you find it helpful.PermalinkI use all those...changing it up constantly. I really blow up doing straight bar & then cables w/D rings.
shoxingbiceps17combination of everything, keep the muscles guessing
Ez.....ropes....dumbells....hammer....reversegrip.....preachers....thinking. All in one session. Hit all angles.
What! Really all in one session your joking right!?
56tooI never do the same movements for biceps consecutively. I always switch it up although Ill always do heavy then light isolation every workout
Anonstraight bar hurts my wrists unless i'm going light, so i do the ez bar. compound movements first at heaviest load for 3-4 sets. then simple movements with dumbbells or d rings on the pulleys a bit lighter for 3-4 sets.
