+ 7 Fighting Fatigue in the Gym

ad

A while back I was hitting the gym, but 20 minutes in I was exhausted. So I started to research what was causing this fatigue, why wasn’t I getting a good pump? I came across some things that I thought I’d share with you guys.

Alright to start this list off, I’ll start with something that we are all guilty of, OVERTRAINING! If you guys are anything like me you like to hit the gym hard six or seven days a week and go months without a real break. Overtraining will actually work against you and your muscle building goals. The body needs rest to grow. During the time that you are resting the body is constantly trying to repair damaged muscle tissue and replenish your body’s energy storage. When you over train, you are interfering with this process which can result in muscle tissue breakdown and even further depletion of your energy storage. So what’s the best way to rest? SLEEP! SLEEP! SLEEP! It’s important for your body to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Some other ways to help the body recover include; supplements like glutamine, Getting massages, cold baths, stretching, and last but not least Staying Hydrated. So drop those weights and pick up a gallon of water.

Next, let’s talk about diet. Some hate it, some love it, and most of us just tolerate dieting. But why would your diet effect how you feel when you work out? Well you need to fuel the body before you work out. That doesn’t mean you should hit taco-bell or McDonalds on the way to the gym. You need food that will give you proper energy. Bananas are a good pre workout food to eat because they are packed with digestible carbs and are also full of potassium, which can help aid in nerve and muscle function. Oatmeal is another great pre workout food because it is packed with fiber, which slowly releases carbohydrates into your bloodstream. Oats also contain B vitamins, known to convert those carbs into needed energy. Brown rice is another complex carb that can aid you in your workouts. Try to time these complex carbs like brown rice or oatmeal 2 hours prior to your workout. 30-60 minutes before you hit the gym down a snack that is pack with carbs; this can be a simple or complex carb. Some snacks can be wholegrain pretzels, fruits, or granola. OK now this next one I’ll mention again for the second time, hopefully you will see how important it is. Water, you must stay hydrated. If you are training high intensity you need to be drinking water all day long, 2 gallons a day is believed to be sufficient.

It’s important to supplement your diet with a complex B vitamin. Without getting to detailed: when the body produces energy it’s a process run by B vitamins. Energy or ATP needs to be released from the body’s cells. The energy or ATP needs to be separated from glucose, which is a byproduct of consuming carbs. Sugars are the building blocks or “monomers” of Carbs, and glucose, the sugar used in the human body, is where energy is taken from. A major part by which ATP is separated from carbs is a very confusing cycle called the Krebs cycle. So what does this have to do with B-Vitamins? Well the Krebs cycle is run by B-Vitamins and without them the cycle would not function.

Along with these fatigue fighters there are other important things to keep balanced, such as a healthy diet with a proper balance of fats, carbs, and proteins. So important notes, REST, Stay Hydrated, Eat Right, and take in some B-vitamins.

Feel free to add anything you guys do or use to fight fatigue below. Eat big, Train Hard, Sleep Long!

High five! Carbs are the reality to muscle energy. You must be complex carbed to kick ass in the gym.

Guys won't like this, but no sex before the gym. I go in the early am. So no sex the night before, when I do I'm a lil bogged down. When I don't I feel energetic and light. Workout are more explosive and impactful. I have a wake up shake before the gym with oats in there and it works great.

That's interesting....are you a professional bodybuilder? Like is that how you make a living? Just curious

Carlos Danger's picture

No way, I don't see how u got that out of what I wrote tho. Is there nothing in ur life that u take serious whether u get paid to do it or not?

jimboe85's picture

Certainly I do. Personally tho Ithink the damage done by refusing my girl sex wouldn't outweigh the reward of having a little bit of an edge in the gym the next day. Lol see what Imean? Id get hell for it. And we both work out a lot. But to me, just for conversation sake, for ME....Iwould have to say she comes before my work out...Iwouldnt stop lifting or anything but in my situation the slight increzse in energy wouldn't be worth the large increase in bitchin....but ur right, not having sex keeps you jacked up n more intense. Post sex ur body is depleted and its in a relaxed state.

jimboe85's picture

Yea that's truth, Iread that after you ejaculate you have a large increase in prolactin and other shit that calms you down and relaxes you and ur test levels drop too. But if you were to become "aroused" for awhile then NOT ejaculate and then work out....ud have high levels of test and adrenaline and theoretically ud have a good workout. The blue balls factor obviously would come into play, lol, but I've never had blue balls and one time me and my girl were making out or whatever right before the gym and Igotta say Ihad a noticably more charged work out session.

Bro, I'd rather do my workout, then have explosive, impactful sex afterwards!
Its the bedroom cardio routine, give it a try!
I had a great time Thursday night and hit a personal best 475 Deadlift Friday night!

jimboe85's picture

Yea buddy, that's what I'm sayin. IMPACTFUL sex

Watch that lower back!.. and i dont mean by deadlifting LOL Smile

Its mostly Glutes and Abs I'm working, and I throw a plank in there once in a while! LOL ;-P

Everybody has their own style Pat. It isn't for everybody. When I leave the gym I can barely take off my shirt n shorts. Let alone do anything impactful to the wife.

Gorillafit's picture

That's why they invented Cowgirl! LOL ;-P

My woman got the gold buckle and matching spurs! ;) yeee haw

Gorillafit's picture

Is that the championship buckle?

Carlos Danger's picture

Ahahahaha That's very true :-D

I was on a "no sex" diet last summer (not even with myself). It was a short ester cycle that included tren. The good news is that I became an animal... The bad news is that I became an animal : /

Carlos Danger's picture

Ya I go sometimes a wk in between session with the wifey. I can only go so long but it does work. And hell yes it makes you a bit "edgy" when u are strict with it. It serves a purpose in the gym tho:-)

fast48's picture

I get my bone on nightly. It's the morning wood she can't have. Mornings is gym time or i'm not crushing the gym.

Catalyst's picture

You're definitely right about the no sex thing, makes a difference. Unfortunately telling the mrs "not tonight, I'm doing legs tomorrow morning" is a sure fire to sleeping in the spare room for me...

jimboe85's picture

Whaaaaaaat??? Haha my girl would think Iwas nuts. Shed prolly leave me n think I was obsessed with my body so much to turn down sex to get the edge in the gym. Now if I were an mma fighter or suttin but I'm just a regular guy. Lol. So that wouldn't work for me!

Carlos Danger's picture

Bro I honestly did get this from watching boxing. Growing up and watching the HBO specials I heard it but was too young to understand. Then I kept hearing it the older I got and I did the same thing when I finally started taking this seriously. I was shocked how big a difference it makes
