Soy Protein Isolate
ad
I recently discovered my local grocery store sells Soy Protein Isolate in bulk ($5 a lb). So I have replaced whey protein isolate with soy protein isolate. My question is this:
1.) SPI gets a bad rep, what's your opinion on SPI vs WPI?
2.) Who is ingesting 200g+ SPI daily? Whats your experience?
3.) Supposedly works like an AI: soy contains isoflavanoids which act like estrogen and take up recpetor sites. isoflavanoids is weak compared to estrogen and so the more recpetor sites it can take up the better since thats less sites for estrogen. Can anyone expand on this?
PS:
SPI = Soy Protein Isolate
WPI = Whey Protein Isolate
Interesting article on SPI:

I just ordered 11 pounds of this stuff off ebay for 59.99 free shipping. thats a very competitive price at 5 a pound.
holy jesus this stuff tastes like crap!
AnonYeah mine has no flavoring, but its not too bad with milk, maybe some vanilla flavoring.
The lack of taste takes the fun out of protein shakes but oh well, bodybuilding on a budget.
Ive been getting roughly 150g of protein a day from soy and recently had blood taken and my Estradiol was less than 20pg/ml (less than 48 is the range). So I dont believe it to raise estrogen. Also on soy I have noticed a decrease in bodyfat (~1%) although this could be other factors. All in all I am satisfied with soy protein isolate and will continue to take it from now on.
Soy contains isoflavones which act like a pseduo estrogen and bind to the estrogen receptors, however to my knowledge they are NOT functioning estrogen and thus simply take up receptor sites and thats less sites for real estrogen to bind to (think nolva). But idk, broscience I suppose.
PS: Soy protein isolate is a great thickening agent, when cooking with flour I sometimes replace part of the flour needed with soy to increase the protein content.
I'm definitely going to invest in some.
what flavor?
AnonNo flavor, kind of chalky taste like flour. You can get flavored soy protein isolate but that costs as much as whey and the pro of soy isolate is how cheap it is so kinda defeats the purpose, unless youre a vegan bodybuilder or something.
There's a lot of vegetarian bodybuilders who made a lot of there gains because of soy protein. What store do you buy it at cuz that is cheap as fuck. Shit I might have you ship me some.
AnonWinco is where I get it, its also really cheap online.
it makes you girly, lol, thin voice, hips and gyno lol
I remember reading an article about how Soy actually very slightly raised free testosterone levels in men supplementing with it, instead of the opposite. I myself stay away from it and just do whey or milk, but I doubt it would have a noticeable impact on your training.
Soy has high conversion to estro. Look up products like Estroven....soy protein estro pills for menopause. I avoid it like the plague.
AnonWhat do you think about this statement?
"Daidzein is a key isoflavone found in soy that acts as a potent phyto-estrogen. It is structurally a very weak "pseudo-estrogen" (about 1000 times weaker than the body's primary estrogen estradiol). This is good news to the bodybuilder because weak estrogens like daidzein will compete with stronger estrogens like estradiol for available receptor sites to "bind" to. By binding to the receptor sites daidzein then "blocks" the stronger estrogens from binding to and activating receptor sites. With the daidzein isolflavone attached, estrogen receptor sites remain inactive. This inactivity further minimizes the negative effects of estrogen in the body. Many researchers believe this effect is the reason soy protein is linked to a reduction in the risk for many forms of breast, endometrial, and prostate cancer. This mechanism works similarly to the prescription drug Nolvadex (tamoxifen citrate)--an anti-estrogen staple in the bodybuilding community."
I have 6lbs of this stuff lying around, so I think I'll be the eroids guinea pig and document my results of a month on soy isolate. Should be interesting to see if soy is deserving of its bad rep.
Soy is one of the easiest for body assimilation. I stay away from it but i'm also an old fart. Sometimes bad reps come from good sources. But testing it sure! It May pump you up greatt
AnonSince Soy Protein Isolate is so damn cheap ($5 a lb and 60g protein 1/4 cup), I have increased my protein intake from ~300g to ~450g a day. I'm hoping the increase will help me keep my gains since I start PCT in several days. So far I'm satisfied with Soy. Although Soy can irritate digestion, I dump weird on days I take in 200g+ protein from Soy haha. I'll log everything for the next month of soy and open a thread when I'm done.
Haha! Ya...they whey gives great farts. Gf hates me.....lol
