What would happen if you hit a blood vessel while injecting

ad

I've always wondered what would happen. Anyone ever hit one or know anyone who hit one? I got scared about 10 mins ago cause I had a squirter, thought i might have hit one but i didnt get any blood when i pulled back. Thanks

I only use insulin pins now when injecting to cut down on damage to my nerves and scar tissue. This also seems to help with not hitting a vein and getting the cough and pain. My quads were starting to get numb and I'm guessing it's from years of injecting so that's why I made the switch . Was also getting the cough and pain in my chest anytime I injected into my glute, also assume that was bec of pin damage .

What happens to the water spray from a hose when you place your thumb over the end?

ironcarpenter52's picture

Depends how old the hose is. All depends on the pressure coming thru hose. Could stop, blow the line or blow their thumb off. But pressure is key

Greg's picture

Damn you're literal, but yes, pressure is key.
Point is, without changing how you're using your smaller gauge pin, damage can still be caused. My 22 gauge garden hose floods a wide area with a lot of fluid when the pressure is all the way on. When I place my thumb over the end to create a 32 gauge hose the water pressure is increased significantly, more focused, and bores a hole into the lawn.

You WILL know if you inject into a vein. I did this Friday for the first time, I even aspirated before then plunged, but the needle must have moved a fraction after I aspirated. The pain was unbelievable when I plunged, then blood was pouring out. I put pressure on and within 5 minutes I had a nice bruise around the area. Next I felt like I couldn't breathe, I literally thought I was gonna die and considered phoning for an ambulance. I could only take tiny bits of air in at a time. I'd read about it before and heard it passes so I sat in a chair slumped over a desk a rode it out. It lasted about half an hour then I started to fell normal again. It's put me off injecting and I've had my wife give me my last 2 injections since, even then I was pretty nervous. Just shows you, even when aspirating you can't be a 100% certain it won't happen

My gf was pinning my delt and hit vein. Pulled the pin out and blood squirt on her. She flipped out I laughed my ass off. Now she always has the alcohol swab ready for a quick cover when pulling the pin out! Lol

It's common. You may not get blood when you pull back. You may have pushed through the vessel and get no blood.

But as you see below, just add pressure and clean it up.

The first pin I ever done by myself, I squirted about foot long stream. Although it really wasn't a lot of blood, when it hit the floor it looked like it was.

The more frequently you inject a site, the more likely you are to hit a blood vessel! This happens because each injection causes trauma and damage to the site.

As the body tries to heal these sited blood vessels form; hence the higher risk of hitting one. I've had frequent squirters from glutes over the years. It doesn't bother me; I just try to stop the bleeding as fast as i can.

KMC's picture

Not "if",........... "when" you hit a blood vessel.

Use pressure, .............direct pressure,............ direct pressure on the injection site.

How long should you use direct pressure for you ask ?

2 minutes to 15 minutes, maybe longer, I once had a 40mm hematoma from an injection, a couple of hours wrapped with an ace bandage was required.

Play this game long enough, ........ you will hit a blood vessel.

Hemophiliact's (bleeders) should use more care, if using AAS at all.

And lastly,.......YMMV

I agree and if that doesn't work you k ow what has to happen.............

Sauron knows the answer........

It's time to amputate where ever the compound or compounds where injected in a timely manner....

lol........

.......THIS IS JUST A JOKE BEFORE a YOUNGSTER HERE GETS HIS DADS CHAINSAW OUT...........

KMC's picture

Amputation ?????

Great, ....... a bunch of 1/2 assed members would be the result.

Wait,.......... we already have that.

Always aspirate. I was injecting glutes and hit one about a month ago. First time this has happened. I pulled back on the plunger and a flood of blood rushed in. Pulled out, changed needles and found a new site.

fast48's picture

Corrected version is bruise. Apologise hugely for misuse of words.

DBG's picture

It happened to me before. You probably hit something close to the skin surface on your way in. You'll get a nice lil' bruise cause you broke a vein. I always look at my skin real good (under bright lights in the bathroom mirror) for where I am injecting that particular shot. Like I hit my lats in the rotation, and I have a course of spidery veins close to the skin surface ready to pop out if I lost some more fat. You just gotta pay attention and as long as you didn't aspirate any blood, you're good Smile

fast48's picture

I made funny and auto correct screwed it up. Lol

Subdural hematoma.......bruise.

DBG's picture

Is that the fancy name for a bruise?...I was in a car crash years ago, and had a subdural hematoma near my brain. I thought the duras were the linings of fluid surrounding your brain?...or does the term dura mean just anything 'below the surface'??? HMMMM.....

fast48's picture

Skin is dermis. So sub...under derma....skin hema...blood. Intercranial bleeding is scary! But can happen from head trauma. Our boods show the extreme cases of injuries where the bruise is thick/fatty looking. Bright purple. Looks like golf ball under skin.

DBG's picture

Yep...subdural hematoma is a collection of blood in the space between the outer and middle layers of the covering of the brain. A hematoma ALONE is just a bruise, I guess.

fast48's picture

You're correct! Jargon changed. Hematoma is a bruis anywhere including in the brain. But subdural hematoma is changed to head trauma only. In my emt class years ago it was a exam work. I'd better brush up...

DBG's picture

Yeah bud...I was feeling like a dick looking at my posts, like I was picking on ya or something. I just got real into the puzzle till it got solved, I was excited....HAHAHA!!

fast48's picture

I'm red in face with embarrasment from misusing classroom jargon. Eccymosis....bruise. Contusion...bruise.

High five for catching that before youngster trips out!

DBG's picture

Yezzir!!...HIGH FIVE!!

fast48's picture

A subdural hematosis!! Google that asap!

wolfman's picture

I know about that one that is a condition of weak blood vessels...a lot of times you inject you push through a vein thats why you drawback on the needle so you know your not in there BUT if you where to inject into a vein and there are no bubbles I dont think it will kill you...depending on how much you shot in there of course.

fast48's picture

Subdural hematome is fancy talk for a bruise. Lol. To die over air bubble takes 3full cc's so lil bubbles not a problem. Getting juice into vein causes coyghing like crazy and ya lost your juice fast into system. Not good..can do other things :(. Always check for vein with plunger pull. Nicking em is common.

wolfman's picture

I would agree a small bubble wont kill you I was just saying it deff not good...and the Subdural Hematome I copied it and googled it like you said cause I was curious and it says its weakening of the blood vessals of the brain?? Anyway good post!

fast48's picture

I certanly misquoted a bruise. Major apologies there...

DBG's picture

YES!!...dura has to do with your brain. NOW dermis, or derma is your skin.

DBG's picture

Not really...subdural means something totally different, look above!! LOL.
