barbell squats
ad
Are you using anything for padding on the barbell during squats? If so, what are you using? If no, my hats off to you. I've been thinking about the hands free squat bar from new York barbell, but it is $300. Maybe, someone has a better alternative. I could buy some pipe insulation and that may absorb some of the weight. Anyone try this and does it work?

I use a towel, one that you would shower with, fold it up 3 or 4 times. Works well for me
It just takes time to get use to it.
DONT buy a special bar. trust me you will get used to it. I watch people squat with 1,000lbs plus all the time with just the bar on their shoulders. pinch your shoulders and kjind of do a shrug while setting the bar as low as you can on your traps without it trying to roll off. do this as much as possible until it feels comfortable-it will. also check out the manta ray. google it-its a blue platic thing that clips to the bar and sits on your shoulders. this will take all the stress off of that area and make it much more comfortable. throw the pads away all they will do is make it worse in the long run.
The only people I ever see complain about that either have the bar sitting wrong or have under-developed trapezius muscles. More specifically, under-developed middle and upper traps.
Yeah I use padding as well when I squat. The padding consists of skin and the trapezius muscles. If you poosition the bar in the right place bro you don't need padding. Perhaps it's a sign you need to do more shrugs as well to build the traps up bro. Now this might sound a bit funny but I place the bar low on the traps and it sort of rests on them and my rear delts as well. Its really stable and the only pain you get is pain in the quads and glutes.
How long have you been squatting? (That sounds weird...) I ask because when squatting with a decent amount of weight, your neck/traps will hurt for the first few weeks. But gradually you get used to it. It builds resistance, almost like a callous on your hand. If you always use a pad, it will never toughen up. Just push through it, accept the pain as a good thing and I promise it will go away. Your ego will thank you for it when you see other guys using a pad. lol
body hardening the nerves will forget the pain and so will you. pain is weakness leaving the body ooo rah! haha j/k
hoo yah where i come from ha
Get some!
Yeah, you're right. I've been back working out for only 4 weeks now from a long break. The other day is the first time I really added some weight. Go figure!
AnonGet rid of the PUSSSY PAD, come on now man up.

I don't use a pad but I use a Draper top-squat. Best purchase I've ever made regarding workout equipment.
I just took a quick look at the draper. Does the bar rest on your shoulders? it looks like you need to support part of the weight with your hands.
biggerthanyouCowboy the fuck up
MultipurposeI don't use a pad but the gym I go to has one that a few people use. It's about the same as this http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Champion-Barbell-Bar-Wrap-Pad/4183589?ci_sk....
I went and bought padding for the bar. They sell it at workout stores maybe even walmart before that I wrapped a towel around the bar. I used to get marks and like bruises on my traps before I figured out "more cushion for the pushin" just give that a try before buying a bar that equals a cycle. U will get more results with 300 dollars worth of juice I think....
How are you holding the bar on your back best spot for me is right on the traps and no pain at all.
On the rear delts
There should be a natural grove somewhere in that are, find it with the bar and you should be good. Youtube videos on it, should help.
Ok you might putting the bar to low on your back im trying to picture it. Try a more narrow grip so your traps are flexed a bit and sit the bar right in that crease just something to try
X2 Yup close grip with the elbows shunting forward, head up.
X2 that's the spot the bar is supposed to rest at.
