I have to say the same thing about the soldiers I ran into at Fort Benning while I was at jump school. it's a damn shame about that Achilles tendon at least it was on Uncle Sam's bill. I've seen more grunts have to transfer to a so called non-combat mos when there was such a thing or get medical'd out because of the "attrition of training" aka getting broken.
That's what they did to me. My 1st Sgt tried to keep me by sending me to NBC school and making me platoon sgt over headquarters platoon but I came down on orders for recruiter duty. I denied DA orders so I was barred from reenlistment.... that about fucking killed me. Took along time to come to terms with what happened. I was a better soldier than I will ever be a civilian. Ohh well... shit happens.
They wanted to send me to NBC school as well. I wanted no parts of dealing with that gas chamber anymore than I had to!
