I am not sure on the ins & outs of all the Gun Laws here, but even before that no one had a handgun that I knew of. It must have been only if you had a special reason for owning one. Maybe Scottish law is slightly different. The only people here legally allowed to have guns are farmers and rifle club members - even then getting a licence is extremely strict and fairly difficult. Then its rifles or shotguns. No previous convictions, police have to come round and interview you in your property and it better be kept in a fully secure gun safe, all alarmed up and the lot. Closest 99% of us lot get to a gun is seeing a police officer holding one in one of the bigger cities. There are a lot on the underground market now in the bigger, rougher cities - many of them carry these MAC 10's and Scorpion guns. Glocks too. Knives and acid attacks are what the Drug gangs tend to favour though.

Thing is bud is over here you simply don't feel you need to own a gun because no one else has one, coming up against someone in the street with a weapon just doesn't really happen. The guys fighting with guns are the drug gangs in the very rough areas and unless you are part of that world its just not going to happen to you. But because they are are so easily accessable over there you have almost every criminal owning one, therefore you feel you need to own one too to protect your home and yourself.
It's a hobby for me. I find it fun to hit little targets with a bullet. Like archery. I probably carried once last year.
Don't get me wrong I like guns, use to be obsessed with them as a kid. It would be cool to go shooting at a range and shooting clays, I couldn't kill an animal though. I do find it frightening though the devastation they can cause on the human body and how easily they can kill another human. I hate humanities obcession with creating weapons designed to kill each other though, we are all extremely lucky to be alive in the first place.
That is very true. Just the fact people knowing you have money puts you in the chance of a home invasion with guns
@Pumped @@scoobydoo we the people, let alone congress, have no idea what good gun laws are even capable of..seriously. We have this damn wild wild west mentality that's beyond rediculous. I grew up around guns on the streets and it's 100 times worse now. No gun reform could ever fix what's broken nor do we want to fix it. That's the reality of the situation.

It's no place I would want to live. I believe they are allowed to own handguns but have to be left at the range. And, I think they can buy a silencer with no special paperwork. They view silencers as hearing protection.
I may not want to live there but I do agree with some of their laws. Seems like a laid back place as far as gun violence. They could probably teach us a thing or two.
