@press1 Last pic is of the Dad. I call him senior Huevos. Tried to get a pic to shiw why. Unfortunately the sister didn't make it, but atleast we still have him, and I think his aunt is pregnant.

So when my daughter was 1yr old my wife and I were looking for land so we could have chickens, goats, pigs. We looked at 9 acre farm at one point. However we never pulled the trigger on it. Which is prob for the best. One it just never dawned on us that hey if we want to take a vacation who takes care of the animals because our parents are old. they can do a little but they aren't taking care of more than a dog. Kids would be older and we are constantly on the go. Not to mention my wife likes the idea but I would be the one doing the manual labor which I don't mind to a degree.

Its still something I would like to do. I love animals. Something relaxing to me about caring for farm animals. I don't know what it is. I still debate on having some chickens despite living in a HOA area at the moment.

I have a lot of land and sometimes think I want to do animals, especially to reduce my property taxes. Then I realize how much it would suck to have to go outside everyday in the blazing hot southern summer to take care of them. Screw that. The amount of fluid. I lose in a couple hours outside with the sun beating down on me when it’s 95 and humid screws up my workouts for atleast a day or two. Travel is definitely another big consideration. It’s easy to get a dog sitter. Much harder to find someone to take care of farm animals.

It is a lot of work, but very rewarding. The animals are therapeutic, especially the goats. If you have a lot of land, you don't have to "dedicate" that much to get the Farm/AG exemption. The amount you put to it in actuality is up to you.

Ya I really need to do it. Maybe once the kids are a little older if they’re interested in it. Ideally I’d get a some cattle, chickens, maybe some ducks and raise all my own meat. I used to have huge fruit and vegetable garden, but it’s alot of work and not fun in the summer down here in the south. But It would be nice to supply our own healthy food and get off the toxic food supply.

I will never get goats though. Most annoying fucking animals. My neighbor used to have them and couldn’t get rid of them fast enough. They ended up on my front porch ramming my front door an hour before my daughter’s bday party lol. His can’t build a fence to save his life.

Yeah definitely can limit the freedom. Luckily my wife is a networker and makes friends pretty easily. So between church and 4h we could find people to stop by and throw feed. Easiest thing would be getting a automatic deer feeder and set it up in a chicken run. An automatic door for the coop and a big enough gravity waterer. That way everything is pretty much taken care of.
My wife and I are home bodies and it's still kind of alot sometimes. Maximum I was at 1 horse, 4 pigs, 5 goats, 20 ducks and 15 chickens. 2 dogs and 4 barn cats. Today I'm at 1 pig, 3 goats, 14 ducks and 14 chickens. 1 dog and 4 barn cats.
Definitely alot of money and time.

Lets see some of the Chickens and the Pig mate!!

What are the barn cats like - proper wild looking??

sandman3698's picture

Yeah. They've actually been looking a little rough the past week or so. I'm thinking this or next weekend I need to spend a day hitting everyone with a dewormer. I think the goats are about due anyway. And yeah I'll get some more pics up in a few.

Congrats that’s awesome, sorry about the sister but hopefully like you said the aunt is pregnant.

Mac12769's picture

Cute little guy. Yeah some tolerate a lead well, depends if they got used to it early on.
What happened to sister ? They are prone to heavy worm load and have to be treated. They suck up red blood cells and cause fatal anemia.
Look up and learn to check Famacha in their eyes.
Coccidia is bad one too for them.

Well I put wood in there pen because we were expecting a shitload of rain and I wanted to keep them out of the mud. I thought it was low enough to the ground to where they couldn't slip under and I was wrong. It didn't get too wet in there so I think she did it late in the day and missed too many feedings through the night.

I see someone lost their mental well-being last night LMAO

I get that your banned now and probably trolling but still, in my defense the gap I'm talkin is like 1.5 inches. I would never have guessed her to cock her head fully to the side and force her body into that.

Sad

Thanks for tagging mac I couldn't remember his numbers. And yeah, they don't really seem bothered by it. Other than when they seem to test it. I'll try to get better pics, I was in a rush to get my boy from ⚽.

What do you tend to do with your Goats then, do you breed them or keep them as pets?

sandman3698's picture

The plan was to get enough girls for milk. But the way everything is panning out, probably just going to be pets for now. Which is fine, I love'em either way.
