I was doing behind the neck squats for a long time for heavy sets of ranging from 4 to 12, my quads weren't responding just seemed to be that my glutes and hips were getting bigger, I switched to the smith machine positioned my feet out in front of me and my heels raised of the ground with a 5kg plate, 50reps, 40reps, 30, 20, 10, 5. I use this rep range in every third week, for a shock factor the pump is amazing. Every other week I stick to rep range of 12 and above anything lower than that isn't productive for me. Then ill throw in a couple of behind the neck squats and the end of my leg routine just to take my legs to total wipe out, ill only put 100kg on my neck and squat for reps aiming for 20's.
This method has really improved my leg development over the last 6 months

Yeah i have been doing regular squats and noticed more gains on glutes than quads, I'll gonna geive the smith machine a try

Try my workout Pre exhaust the quad on the leg extension the hit the smith high reps 20's no lower than 12 for a week or two and watch your quads grow, I do behind the neck squats at the end of my workout just for a burn out and to give my glutes a bit of action but once your quads hit failure the lower back and glutes start burning this is when I know my quads are completely exhausted and I finish the workout there. If I want a lower back workout ill keep squatting but I squat to train legs so what's the point.
