He's adjusting the settings on the camera. I got the same thing on my phone, I can put a pic in black n white or adjust the background to make it dark or light or bring out the shadows to add a more hardened look.
Nobody wants to see that though! People want to see the regular pic. Not one that's fixed up. He'll this dudes cut up and looks damn good but I feel it's sorta dishonest fixing up your pic. Obviously it's not as bad as photo shopping but in a way it is. IMHO just take the damn pic and show us what you got. You'll get more love that way cuz people won't feel like your touching it up
