+ 2 Not what you want - Shingles

ad

Ok so started a few days ago with 24 hours of total apathy. Felt like shit, didn’t want to do anything. Then the tingling, numbness and itching started across my back and stomach. Soon the rash/breakout started and it’s wrapping around as you can see. I’m 50 and had chickenpox already. I’m under a shit ton of stress, get little sleep and around sick people frequently…..this was bound to happen eventually. I don’t wish this shit on anyone.
I don’t mind pain and have handled my fair share, but this sucks. It’s a constant dull pain right at the left kidney and throughout the day, it switches all day, without warning to a stabbing pain that will just about put you to the floor. Almost happened at Walmart yesterday with the Ms. in tow.
First time with this, I’ll get the vaccine after it clears up. I might hit the DR tomorrow and see if he wants to do some antivirals and maybe shorten the life. Don’t really do pain meds other than Aleve, so suck it up. On a lighter note, I had just about finished my long Test/EQ run, so there’s that.

Damn brother! Hope it clears up soon. I can only pray that shit don't hit me. I know alot of ppl that have gotten it and yeah, it's that childhood chickenpox revival and it's nasty as fuck. (And I'm not talking about looks)
There's actually a herpes med (forget the name of it) that they sometimes prescribe for it. Supposedly helps even though it's not herpes.
Feel for ya my man! Keep strong, it'll pass.

It actually is a herpes virus.

Sure is. Generic Valtrex they gave me. Went to the Emergency room and couple days after the Valtrex it cleared up.

Already sent my DR a message. I'll get something going soon in the AM when I get off work. It's actually getting worse and spreading. I'll have to post up more pics tomorrow. Getting red and angry fast, ugh.

It's actually caused by herpes viruses.. shingles, chicken pox cmv retinitis are caused by herpes viruses.

Once you get it it will go away but you always have the virus same as chicken pox and the others.

Get well brother!! It's rough for a few weeks. Hang tough it will get better I promise

The same mess they give people for herpes like you're thinking g about will actually help what he is going through.

For instance Varicella-zella is the herpes virus that causes chicken pox and is the exact virus that essentially re activates that causes shingles / herpes zoster is another name for shingles.

I had it really bad when my immune system was compromised due to chemo

Wow, yeah I didn't know that. This place is a wealth of knowledge. Not just about gear either lol. It's good to know. Always wondered why they gave it for shingles. Guess I could've always looked into it but nah I'm the idiot that'll look into it after I have it myself. Appreciate the insight though guys. Seriously

They do have a vaccine. Get it but also get the antiviral to have on hand in case you start to feel something coming on... kind of like having an AI on hand in case you needed it.

I don't know how many times I've seen that fucking commercial, and telling myself, youre old enough now, go get it. ugh.
I'm sure you know, med people are worst patients...

Really sorry you have got this mate. Looks like an absolute bitch, I think its one of those things where you can only truly appreciate just how bad it is if you have had it yourself. Seen a lot of other members on here suffer with this so hopefully they can shed some light on it Smile

Damn, that sucks.. At least it didn't hit mid cycle and ruin that. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse, I would get into the doc asap to see if there is anything they can do to prevent it from spreading or alleviate the pain. I have heard that pain is brutal.

Mac12769's picture

It's still blistering, so still have time for antivirals.

It is brutal. The nerve endings are on fire, so there's only so much you can do. Antivirals can shorten the life of it sometimes and with my work, script pain meds ares't really an option, nor do I like to take them. The tingling has stopped, so I thing its spread about as far as its going. But that patch is over my left kidney, so its a fucking kidney check each time it hits.....it'll almost put you to tears.
