  • YOUR SAFETY : OS TAILS AND YOU

Hello everyone, Crazy Doser here and today we gonna talk about OS Tails.

You know, the OS that Edward Snowden used during 2013 when he was leaking NSA info. Tails helps you to use the Internet anonymously and circumvent censorship almost anywhere you go and on any computer but leaving no trace unless you ask it to explicitly. It has it’s own mail client, bitcoin wallet and TOR browser and many other interesting things that provide good surfing and privacy. Tails developers simply put all privacy tools in one OS, so you don’t need to search for them, all is set and ready to go.

But to my mind the best thing about Tails is that it leaves no traces of your presence. So you won't leave any trace on the computer either of the Tails system itself or what you used it for. That's why many people call Tails "amnesic".

Now I want to share some thoughts about Tails “package”. First of all the TOR browser. It is a web browser
based on Mozila Firefox and configured to protect your anonymity. Given the popularity of Firefox, you might
have used it before and its user interface is like any other modern web browser. Tor helps to defend against
traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy. Basically it protects you by bouncing your communications around a network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location.

To sum up, by using TOR you can: be anonymous online by hiding your location, connect to services that would be censored otherwise.

As for Bitcoin wallet, Tails uses Electrum. This is a bitcoin client that is particularly suited to the context of Tails because: you can use it on different devices and be sure that your bitcoins won’t dissapear in case of error or device crash. What is more is that there is no time when starting, this is possible due a fact that electrum doesn’t download blockchain! And finally, you can sign transactions from an offline working session for additional security. Remember that by default Electrum uses mBTC as the default base unit. 1 mBTC = 0.001 BTC. To change this setting choose Tools - Preference and open the Appearance tab.

For the messaging Tails includes Pidgin Instant Messenger. It allows to connect to Jabber servers and have
several accounts connected at the same time. I would like to give a few words about Off-the-record (OTR)
encryption. Off-the-Record messaging allows you to have private conversations over instant messaging by
providing: encryprion so no one else can read your messages. Deniability, so the messages you send do not have digital signatures that are checkable by a third party. Anyone can forge messages after a conversation to make them look like they came from you. Sounds pretty good, huh? Important! OTR is deactivated by default so you need to activate it.

I personally tested it and I am pleased with its functionality. There is nothing to be afraid about installation, all
you need is a 1-2 hours of your time and simple 4GB USB. But before you start you need Universal USB Installer which can be found here - http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

So to install Tails you need to do the following:

1) Download tails.iso

2)By using Univesal USB Installer install Tails iso file on your USB device.

Step 1 – select a Linux Distribution – Tails.
Step 2 – Select your tails*.iso.
Step 3 – Select your USB Flash Drive. Click “Create” and after a few minutes your USB will be ready for Tails.

3) Select your USB device with Tails as primary load device in your BIOS.
4 ) Reload your system
5) Profit !

The results of sociological studies show that the vast majority of internet users, who choose between convenience and security, prefer the convenience. Many people find it quite difficult to use something than their usual OS and favorite programs for Internet communication in favor of the least understood (though much safer) tools, such as TAILS system. Sure we can understand them.

However, if privacy is a priority for you then TAILS system may be just the right thing t you need. provides an acceptable level of protection of your information and confidentiality.

CRAZY DOSER.
