Be smart, utilize multiple addresses and build those layers between you and illicit activities. Don’t get complacent. They’re just going to get better at tracking this stuff.

I admit I'm not the shiniest Apple in the basket, however I come from the idea that the more effort you put into trying to hide what your doing the more red flags you raise. The www was created by Cern, so anything you do online comes AFTER you walk right through their front door. I'd logically assume that anything you do after that point can be traced back to the device your using. The good news is, they aren't the "gov" so who knows how much info they share. I use some basic measures to blend in and not blast everything I do, but sometimes the most obvious is the least. In my not so humble opinion.

Anyone who believes these "cop tales" shouldn't be involved with crypto anyway. This whole colonial pipeline story doesn't make sense. If they could truly crack a wallet key they could rob everyone. Hell, the US government could crack the long dead wallets...
I think it’s suspicious. I wouldn’t to put it past them to make it up to raise gas prices.
Bigun2I may have misread it but the way it read to me was more so tracking the wallets as opposed to cracking them. Fiat on/off ramps will always be the vulnerability and unfortunately most places don’t take crypto so people inevitable have to turn their coins to dollars, euros, etc to spend them. Those account require KYC/AML measures that leave fingerprints.
That is the thing tho. They are saying they got in the wallet and got the bitcoin back. Only way that happened is if somehow they intercepted someone sending the keys to the wallet. They did not hack into a wallet. My own thoughts on this are either they got really lucky and caught someone electronically communicating the keys or this whole story was made up to strike fear in these Russian shakedown artists. Today reverse Psy-Ops they have to go big to make it believable
Bigun2I could see the plausibility in your psy-op theory. I highly doubt they got into a wallet sans, as you said, someone was sloppy with the keys. I’d hate to try and figure the odds of someone cracking a wallet without having the keys. Would have to be infinitely challenging.
Those ANON phones that they used to trap a bunch of organized crime worldwide are also a potential method they could have used to gather keys. Bottom line is there is no way they hacked in
Not saying you're wrong. BUT, why do you think there is no way to crack bitcoin wallets? My friends, and family work in internet security. They say the only secure computer, is one in a locked room, unplugged from anything, and with no battery.

It may not be impossible. But between the keys, 2FA, and passwords it is unlikely to the extreme. No, either they got ahold of the keys by some other method or it was all bullshit. Think of the known wallets that have been dead for years , if they truly figured out how to crack the keys the US government or its proxy's would be eyeballing them next
Nothing is anonymous anymore. It is just a matter of whether or not you are worth their time and effort to make a bust.

I guess where I’ve come to is regardless of how insignificant I think I am in the grand scheme of things I’m going to do some basic steps to put distance between me and the act. That way it’s harder for them to connect me to anything if someone should try. Nothing crazy, just a few extra wallets and steps for them to sort through.
