Partial pec tear

Heres a pic http://www.eroids.com/pics/pec-tear . I was maxing out on flat bench and a quarter of the way back up left pec to humeras made a loud popping sound loud enough that everyone in the gym heard it. I didn't have any pain, just a burning sensation around pec, armpit area like someone had smacked me with a 2 x 4. I got full range motion since day one of it happening and its day 8 now and hardly any soreness at all just blood still draining down my left arm and a little bruising on upper outer pec near armpit. That area is a little knoted up and swollen but is decreasing day by day. Seen a chiropractor today and he call his buddy who specializes in this area and he seemed to thing it wasn't a full pec tear, but possibly a partial tear, but since I don't have any pain but only soreness he was leaning toward the theory that the muscle may have contracted from the tendon and then snapped back making the loud popping noise and in the process ruptured a blood vessel. Any ideas what happened. I definitely can't do any heavy weight on it, i stretched it out with 10 lbs flys today and it is sore and alot weaker, only doing this in a very slow motion, there isn't any pain though, just some tightness. So I'm thinking next week to start rehabing it and possibly 6 weeks do some light benching. The chiro and his friend recommended heat and ice for the next week to get the inflamation down and then get a massage therapist to massage the area and work out the knots and lactic acid. To me this seems plausable for a good solution. What are your recommendations.

you have a lot of got good advice, brother. I've had a pec strain, before. but never torn muscle... I would rest completely. It's just too easy to engage your pecs in daily activity. this is why the military engages in tons of pushups, dips, stretches & pullups. in the end, it keeps you safer... that means, I'd personally do no chest or even core work. I wouldn't do upper body at all, until It's healed. focus on lower body. sorry this happened to you, bubba. take it easy! if you don't, its possible that you never fully recover : (
as far as fixes. I'd say rest, ice, ibuorofen. for rehab, I'd employ: light resistance shit like, pushups, pullups. maybe build up to very light weight bench presses. doorway stretches (high 5, 90 deg), dips, prone cobra, triple stop bench press, single leg (feet on swiss ball) decline pushups & inverted rows... I'm no doc, but since there's no pain, that's a good sign to me. just utilize your stabilizing muscles more. hope this helps. Kmi

Thanks sgtstedanko I'm glad you speak through experience and what you advised is pretty much what I had planned on doing. I've been doing hot/cold pad and arnicare gel as well and soreness is all gone as of today, but still some slight bruises here and there. I'll imploy the resistance training on week 3 and work up from there if everything checks out from the ultra sound.

I partially tore my pec early this year. I did the standard soft tissue injury - RICE. For about 3 days after the injury as much as i could and totally rested it for about 7-10 days. I would suggest an ultra-sound of the area to find out exactly what you are dealing with. I was lucky and only had a minor tear within the muscle belly, it really helps to know if you are dealing with a muscle tear of something more serious such as a tendon rupture, so i cant emphasize the ultra-sound enough.

I did consult a phsyio for a few weeks, now im no physical therapist but i found this to be a waste of time & money. If you have a good understanding of how to rehab soft tissue injury then save your coin and get some deep tissue massage after a few weeks of healing.

Just take your time getting back into benching, Im 8 weeks post tear and still only benching about 60% of what i used to do.

thanks for the reply, its very helpful, I'll schedule an ultra sound an see where the tear accured and I'm already set up for a message next week. I work in the medical field and will just rehab it myself and I've got a buddy that works in physio rehab and i'll get some pointer from him. Its day 9 and bruising is almost gone and swelling to and got full range of motion so sounds like I got lucky like you and got a partial tear. Thanks for the help.
