Would like expert advice; potential injury

ad

I don't do steroids and don't take many supplements. I pretty much just stick to my multivitamin, fish oil, creatine, and protein. With that said the reason I am coming to a steroid forum for my question is I figure most people on here are very knowledgeable on the subject, dedicating most of their lives to lifting and as such can offer me concrete advice for my issue.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED:
It seems common for people to post some information about themselves to give you all a better idea of the individual you're communicating with...

I have been weight training on and off since HS and am currently getting ready for graduate school.
I have a degree in biology.
I am Danny Padilla short weighing in at 155lbs.
I have been bulking on a clean, high calorie (3200-4000) diet since July.
I have gained just under 15 lbs since April.
I record all of my lifts and track them as well as my growth using Microsoft Excel.
I use an app on my phone to count my daily caloric intake as well as macronutrients. Currently I am aiming for 200g of protein and 160 oz of water daily. I don't have much regard for the amount of fat and carbs I consume.
I take pictures of myself every two months (beginning in April) for motivational purposes.

Stats:
Bench - 250
Squat - 420

From July - October I followed Arnolds routine using a four day split of Arms/Legs/Back+Chest/Shoulders
I enjoyed the lifting style but my body couldn't keep up with the intensity and I began to hurt constantly and it grew worse so I have since retired from the 6 sets of 10 mind set. Once again I was eating healthy and getting plenty of sleep during this time. My body just seemed unable to deal with the workouts which comes as no real surprise because I don't have the testosterone to aid in my recovery.

Starting last week I have begun doing Reggie Parks 5x5 workout and so far I am enjoying it.

MY ISSUE: I have severe pain in my shoulders while bench pressing. From the research that I have done it seems that I may have an over-developed chest with regards in my shoulders/traps (?).

If you click this google URL link it'll take you to a picture of the human shoulder. The pain is in the area where the subscapularis is located. I am not saying that the subscapularis is the problem merely that is the area where the pain is.

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://healthfavo.com/wp-content/upl...

The pain is only noticeable during the PUSHING portion of the lift. The pain ISN'T present during Close Grip. I stretch very thoroughly and do warm up reps prior to going heavy. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being immobilizing pain the pain is a 9. I ONLY have pain during wide grip bench and it doesn't effect my daily lifestyle whatsoever. I am already being forced to go light on bench and fear if this continues I'll need to stop barbell bench pressing or Ill tear my rotator cuff.

Things I have done/am currently doing.
- I have taken time off bench pressing (3 weeks) with no noticeable improvement
- Icing
- Heating
- Strengthing my traps using row-like exercises

Thank you all in advance for your help. I look forward to the help. If you need me to answer any particular questions ask away.

Thanks guys! Smile

Hey VHMAN thanks. It's something that I am dreading to have done because I don't have insurance atm haha. I'll see what I can do though!

Got ya. That insurance deal is a pain. I hope you can figure something out and get a solid diagnosis.
Since I'm just treading water with my shoulder for now, I have had to use different exercises that don't hurt my shoulder. I stopped doing incline barbell presses, due to pain and now I use a Hammer Machine (brand) that I can do an incline movement that doesn't hurt much. Until you can find an answer, I would do your best to find exercises and/or machines to substitute the movements that cause pain. Again, wish you the best of luck with this! P.S. I use anti-inflammatory medication when needed.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I have similar shoulder pain that I've been dealing with for years. It would get better for a short time and then pop back up for no reason. I was told 20 different diagnosis from different people. I finally gave in and went to an orthopod. He told me I had a small tear. He said I could get a steroid shot when it flames up, but there was not a whole lot we could do, unless it gets worse and we could do surgery. At least I know what I'm dealing with now.
MY POINT in this is that my recommendation is to go to a shoulder specialist and figure it out. Otherwise we are all just guessing and possibly hurting you in the long run. It may turn out to be a small problem, but maybe not. Why guess? Go get it checked out. Best of luck.
