+ 2 Movements

So I moved from dumbbells from barbell today. A few major movements the dumbbells are not heavy enough like incline bench and whatever those back movements are. I do 125lb 4 to 5 sets for 15. Should I just stick to barbell? I also did those major movements at the end of my workout.

I like going heavy on Hammer strength for chest! Never heard of anyone getting a pec tear using chest Hammer Strength equipment!
You ever fuck with rest pause training? (DoggCrapp, bulldozer, MyoReps, etc)
I’ve been playing with different rest pause methods for some of my assistance work and you end up getting more muscle damage in less time. It feels like harder work too. Kind of fun if you’re sadistic.
I’d try MyoReps with your DB work at the end. You’d be surprised I bet.
If you can do 4-5 sets of 15, I’m willing to bet you can get about 18 reps on your first set. Take your first set to failure or just shy (say 16-20 reps) take 3-5 deep breaths, then bang out 4-5 more, repeat that 4 more times. You’ll be smoked and you’ll still get the benefit of DB stimulation without having to do so many straight sets.
I like dumbbells for assistance work a lot, but you might have to get creative to progress further. I’d try different methods to make it harder/change the stimulus. Doing those straight sets with a 4 count negative would have you dropping weight too. Probably back down to the 100s... I’d try different shit like that.
I wouldn’t bail on the DBs tho.
I actually do that on a lot of body parts. Never dumbbells though. I will give it a go for the dumbbells. Thanks bro! Great advice.
Rest pause when you really want to punish yourself both mentally and physically
It’s the best high in the world... I love it...
It’s brutal man. And if you go nuts, when you add up the reps at the end it’s more or the same as straight sets but it was WAY harder and way more of the reps were effective.
With the title "Movements" I thought I was going to get some good fiber advice.
125lbers for 15 and 4-5 sets, at the end of your workout is beastly bro. I personally mix things up each workout from barbells to dumbells to machines, its all dependent on what my goals are and what I am trying to achieve
I like to mix it up a bit. Keep changing the routines between barbells and dumbbells. I find muscle confusion leads to the best gains.
I do too bro. I’ve been doing both here recently. With a good pre workout meal and post of course.
RustyhookerThe power guys i used to lift with flat bench first then went to dumbells. Get some fatigue first. You try that before ir literally just outgrowing the stack? My best was 105s for 8 long long ago. Beast mode 125!
Edit...end of workout. Holy hell!
I’ll do barbell first next time.
Manateeswimmer5678That's exactly what my coach had me do. Bench was my weakest so we increased frequency to 3x a week. Mixed percentage based on day for incline bench and then volume with incline DB and flat bench. Probably one of the best tricks I've learned from him. He didn't have me starting my lifts with flat bb bench until four weeks out. Strong incline bb bench transitions to a powerful flat bb bench.
RustyhookerBy time ya get to dumbells, the 60s were heavy. Lol. My shoulders were getting hit too hard with the barbell and dumbell seemed to relieve the pressure a lot. But im goinv to start pushing the barbell hard again
Manateeswimmer5678Before using gear personal bests when I was 185,
Deadlift:550
Squat: 475
Bench: 335
Then I got busy with grad school and fell off the lifting routine :(
The routine I mentioned is what my coach had me doing back then.
My most is
Weight 205
Deadlift 625
Squat 495
Bench 405
I’m talking about the 125lb dumbbells
Manateeswimmer5678That's awesome numbers bro! Did you compete in any federations? I was usapl before! And yeah I got you on the 125lb dumbbells!
Could never get into the 600s for deadlifts man, had a slight back injury and since then have had a hard time finding my sweet hitch spot for maximal leverage. Coach used to tell at me Everytime I hitched too high or low lol
No never competed other than bodybuilding for about 5 years.
Manateeswimmer5678That sounds awesome maybe go heavy on barbell incline and use dumbbells after to maximize work load and capacity.
That makes perfect since
