Glycogen depleted training
Just got done reading some really interesting information on training styles in relation to glycogen levels.
One of the concepts is called train low, compete high. Essentially what the study says is that in situations of training where the body is forced to train without high glycogen stores it has a greater tenancy to adapt and develop. At least from the perspective of the endurance athlete.
This training style does not pertain however to weight lifting, which is a shame. It was shown that training with weights in a low glycogen state was not helpful as glycogen does not enhance the activity of genes implicated in promoting muscle hypertrophy.
But for all of you out there wanting to improve your cardio routines go ahead and check out this article. http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/sports-nutrition-the-latest-research-int...
Some very good reading in deed... cheers
