Bro chest has always been my Achilles, (for me) it has helped to go straight to "pull" after "push" when I'm done with my bar work I go straight to cables
my .02
Evrerybody has some really good advice as well as interesting points. To each his own, but don't forget to add in your intensity. Don't cheat yourself. Become one with the power rack... date it, love it , and hate it. Set your safeties in that beast and with that saud don't be afraid of failure. Use the failure to your advantage and perhaps work that last rep as a killer negative.
Always end with a good stretching exercise. Stretch out them hard earned muscles after all them presses you've been doing. I like to superset my chest/back and my last two stretch exercises are always lying down pullovers (free weight) and Chest flys ( if you use a machine make sure to fix the settings to stretch your arms back far enough, but avoid injury) .
blackmkti noticed my chest grow when i started having the bar touch my chest (gave me thickness) taking a nice long break after every set (3-4 minutes) to give it a nice recovery b4 another set. i do heavy and no more than 10reps no less than 8reps. also towards the end of chest workout i go back to the flat bench and put on 70% of the weight i started with and strap it with a resistance bend. its called dynamic effort. that shit gave me massive strength and pump. try it. wont hurt any advice is helpful buddy

Try...10 sets of 10 of your fav chest exercise with a minute rest in between sets (absolute max...time it). Take 2 secs to press it up and 3-4 to lower. Leave your ego at the door re the weight you're using just make sure you get most of the 100 reps in. By the 6th set you should be feeling exactly what you're working muscle wise in the chest. Endeavour to add weight each workout (even if only 1.25 a side). I'm nicking something from GVT as most people will realise. After 6 weeks of this you should begin to feel your chest working (how it works) when pressing and will have added a fair bit of beef in the process. Gironda dips are also an idea....depending upon how sturdy your shoulders are.
stfuandliftbtchif you've been working out for a few years, im sure you've tried a few different workouts. Your chest is "really" lagging after a few years, then i doubt it is your workout. Im guessing its either your intensity, your workout schedule, diet, etc.
Here's what I do:
Try multiples of seven. the 21's get the blood flowing. the 14's get blood flowing and let your muscle know big weight is coming down the pipe. 7's make you grow.
1st set is warmup - 21reps
2nd set is moderate - 14 reps
3rd - 5th set is heavy, but not death - 7 reps
Decline, flat, incline (I tend to go a lot lighter on the incline as I am prone to shoulder problems and I find it's more effective for me to do a lot of reps. I usually go 21, 14, 14, 14, 10.)
Some type of fly - I personally like doing a standing cable fly....21, 14, 7, 7, 7.
The last thing I do is complete and total chest kill death suicide. You will gets looks. Your cock will be much bigger. And your chest will grow.
I do 4 sets of pushups with a 45 plate on my back. Do as many as you can do....every set.
Good luck. Hope it helps.
I have the same problem. The problem like highstrung says, is the tendency for some people- especially if you have a wide frame / broad shoulders, to over emphasize front delts at the expense of your pectorals. This can happen, even with proper form on push-ups, bench press, flys, etc. The key is adding in exercises that isolate you pects- specifically decline dumbell presses, decline barbell with close grip (hands together, and single arm decline cable flys where your arm crosses completely over.
If your pecs are really out of balance with your front delts, you may want to do just these isolation exercises for a few months and stay away from the usual flat or incline exercises.
Thanks so much for the advice fellas, chest day tomorrow! With your help I'm gonna destroy it! 2 days sounds a good idea, I'm going to train slow and controlled and really feel the muscle working. Thanks again
Hey,
I haven't really had issues with my chest untill I hit 30 a few years ago and some slight "sagging" set in. I found that doing two days of chest a week worked.
Day 1....ALL Barbell work
Bench 5 sets with 2-3 min rest period and do a 5th set burnout
Incline Bench same as above
Decline Bench same as above
(day one slips into my back day of 4 exercises at 5 sets a piece)
Day 2...DB and machine work ALL chest
Db presses (5 sets w/ last set as burnout)
Db incline presses (same as above)
Db decline presses (same as above)
Db flys (light weight 4 sets of 15)
Db incline flys (same as above)
Db decline flys (same as above)
Cable crossovers SS w machine presses (3 sets of 10-12)
I found that with this 2 day a week method I was able to build nicely and firm and burn in day 2. My routine changes once every 7 weeks. My next routine will involve 5 min rest periods for set 1 and 1 min for set 2 then 30 sec on set three and SS into back for set 4....my body adapts pretty fast so in my old age of 32 lol I have to slam it as much as I can.
since you been training for years im sure you know this but with no offense intended ive seen people that have worked out for years also....use proper form but tend to not have correct muscle control.. if your not focusing and actually using your chest it wont grow. some people have trouble with chest for that reason and especially any benching flat or incline with long bar or dumbells have rather large front delts cuz they cant control the right muscles.to make sure your controling and using your chest do some single arm cable flies and place opposite hand on which ever pec your trying to use. youll feel the muscle if doing it right.i pride myself in muscle control and slow reps to make sure the right muscle is focused. Ive helped a bunch of guys at the gym how to figure out muscle control. another thing you can do that ive done for past 13 years is after i wake up and before bed at night i max out on pushups.
