Can only flex my right trap.
I'm probably gonna get blasted for this but oh well..
I literally can't flex my left trap. I'm all f'd up. I write left handed, I throw right handed. I eat left handed. I can throw almost as good with my left. I bat right handed, can't swing a bat worth of shit on the left. Certain exercises I'm dominant on one side, others, the other side. I guess I'm ambidextrous ...
That has left me with a bigger right trap. I can't seem to make the mind/muscle connection with it. To be honest, I never really noticed it until I hurt my shoulder (right shoulder) and I've been focusing on shoulders back so much it's really come to the front of my mind.
I work each out the same but I guess my right side is straining alot harder so my left isn't growing. Anyone have any tips on how to correct this.
Go easy...

sounds more like a nerve issue if you can't flex it.. Can you move the shoulder blade in to wing out your left lat?.. Buddy of mine can't do that.. so I toldem to work on it every day in the mirror and after a few months he could move both.. Same thing happened to me from nerve damage and it took time and patience and special attention.
Btw if it's nerve damage you might wanna see a doc.. It can heal but you'd have to lay off the heavy weights or you could make it worse, the doc would make it clear what you could and could not go heavy on
I had troubles like this when I first started lifting. I don't know how long you've been lifting or what not but i was actually the same way. I could not flex my left trap for the life of me. I would practice just trying to go through the motions as you're sitting down or whatever of flexing your left trap. I think it was something I grew into though.
AnonDon't know why you think you are going get flamed for this question... sounds like a good question to me.
I think you might have permanently damaged something and your muscles are compensating for the injury creating a bigger specific muscle. Ever hurt your ankle but you continue to walk on it...then your knee starts hurting, cause your knee is compensating for the ankle injury causing a injury to your knee, the cycle goes on and on
Just seems like am odd thing to me. I dont think its any nerve damage to be honest i just think i cant find the muscle with my mind. For example i can wiggle my right ear easily but my left i have to really think about it. I just have more of a connection with my right. I can raise my right eye brow but not my left lol. Maybe i had a stroke lol. Its been that way for as long as i can remember.
Ive lifted on and off for a while but religiously the past 2 years
Can you feel pain in the muscle? This could be a nerve issue. Try pressing a finger deep into the tissue around 1.5-2" lateral to your neck just posterior to the apex of the muscle. This should produce a pain response that radiates up into your neck and down to your delts. If it doesnt, you might wanna go see a physiatrist.
Anonmaybe something to do with blood flow... Iv heard of things like smaller veins so maybe not as much blood is getting there compared to the other side of your body, leaving you with the "nerve damage feeling" ...just an idea
you can do dumbell shrugs sitting down, unilaterally. one arm shoulder press too
