cottage cheese what to do with it?

ad

Hey all

Just getting into cottage cheese anyone have any ideas to share on what to do with it? Eating it plain is not very good. Any ways to make it more enjoyable?

Thanks

Lazy dumplings

Cottage cheese through a meat grinder or a rub through a sieve. Add the eggs, sugar (optional, I do not like sweet and do not add), melted butter, salt and all that stir well. Then in the resulting mass put the flour and knead the dough of cottage cheese. Put a pot of water on the stove and bring to a boil. Cottage cheese dough out onto a floured board or table and cut into 2 equal parts. Every part make the roll in the form of fine sausages, slightly flattened, cut into small pieces. Lazy dumplings dipped in salted boiling water and cook until they float to the surface. Ready-made dumplings with a slotted spoon to put on a plate and pour the melted butter.
Serve lazy dumplings with sour cream.

It's great recipe. Taste it!

Some great ideas in this post! Adding pineapple was always a favorite of mine!
Another favorite of mine is mixing it with brown or jasmine rice and adding cinnamon and honey!
It's almost like a rice pudding!

My favorite every evening in front of tv is
400g cottage cheese
60g strawberry jam
40g peanut butter

Perfect and delicious

Make a quiche..
In my diet is a meal with 25g Cottage cheese , 2 eggs .
Mix this , add herbs and mushrooms Mango paprika whatever you like, on top you can add mozarella If your diet allows.
In the oven for 30-40 min on 180degrees
And its delicious

You can also stuff a paprika with this mix and then in the oven.

Planty of casein before a bed, i like it plain.

Cottage cheese is good for protein, so you can add it to salad, eat with honey and put in pancakes. I add some raisins and nuts and mix with cottage cheese. Its my favorite breakfast.

My new favorite is adding one of the starkest flavored salmon or tuna packs to one cup of cottage cheese. My personal favorites are the chipotles or sweet and spivey. But they have dill, lemon pepper and many others. 36-40 grams of protein easy breezy

The sweet and spicy is my favorite.

Damn tasty and tough to beat them awesome macros.

Here are the packs but they are usually cheaper at the store than this by far.

I love cottage cheese. It is light and has got a lot of protein. I mix it with fruits, jam or put it in panckakes. Lovely dessert

eat it with peaches,

I also like to put it on top of a burger. No bun, just throw a burger into a bowl and cover it up with cottage cheese.

Very interesting... I may have to give this a try, or even mix up ground beef with some farmers cheese... Get it nice and melted. Thank for this idea Mak, and it's great to see you back on here - I've been reading through a lot of your posts and I've been learning tons!

Makwa's picture

A nice salty and seasoned burger is the ticket. Was usually the last meal of the day when I was cutting.

Any recommendations on turning it into a end of the day bulking meal? I could probably just toss it all with whole wheat pasta, but I'm curious as to any alternatives.

Makwa's picture

2 burgers and 4% fat cottage cheese intstead of the fat free. Even bulking I like to minimize carbs at the end of the day so I really limit them before going to bed.

The Impastable's picture

I'm sorry I'm hijacking this post... Limiting carbs before bed, is there a time frame for doing so? I hit the gym at 9PM so that may end up being a little difficult for me to do...

Unless I could have my last carb heavy meal around 8, and then after the gym get some simple carbs in for the glycogen depletion, and just have a protein shake right after followed by the typical pre-bed meal sans carbs.

Makwa's picture

Your in a totally different ball game for carb timing since you work out later at night. That is when you want to focus most of you carb intake, pre and post workout. High carb/protein meal 3 hours before workout, this is what will be fueling your workout and then a slug of fast digesting protein (whey shake) with minimal carbs 1 hr before workout. Slam down down 50g or so of fast digesting carbs midway through workout and then a good high carb/protein low fat meal when you get back from the gym. If you still need another meal before bed some type of casein, including cottage cheese is a good choice.

The Impastable's picture

Thanks Mak, that's pretty much what I've been doing, except I'd have a meal with carbs right before bed, I'll adjust accordingly and fit the carbs in elsewhere. When I have some more time to myself to write it up I'll post up in the dieting clinic, get some more tailored input there. Appreciate the advice!

Grate some raddishes, cucumber into it. Chop up some scallion and throw that in there as well. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. You can add farmers cheese to it to make it less liquid and more of a creamy mixture.

Makwa's picture

Throw some tuna and tabasco sauce on it.

crazymofo's picture

I take it and add casein protein powder to it with a little water. Not too shabby as a pre bed snack. The powder is flavored of course.

konig's picture

Yeah that's exactly what I do, perfect nutrition for growth before bed.

An old wrestling buddy told me to take throw in pineapple. I just buy the single cups with low HFCS, mixes perfectly, tastes great.

Thanks....fruit seems simple enough and tuna sounds great.will try the tuna tmrw.

I love just eating it plain, but fruit added in is always a nice change. Wow a bunch of good ideas on variations posted, definitely gonna try the tuna with cc haha.

I like it with pineapple, or on some whole wheat roll topped with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, chive a little salt and a bit more pepper. Yummy

I love it plain with pepper but every once in a while to change it up I add a little bit of french dressing. It sweetens it up a bit. Not a lot maybe a tablespoon to a quart container.
