+ 3 Dealing With Scale Numbers
I need some help bros. I joined Eroids about 10-11 months ago now with one singular goal in mind. Mass. I grew up a very skinny person and always envied people with some real mass.
Fast forward to joining here and getting my first cycle in the books, I got hooked hard. Since being here I've gone from 180lbs to 238lbs this morning. I feel so much more confident in my body and am so much more out going. The comments I get in the gym, at Walmart, or work really keep me going.
Now for where I need advice. I know it's about time I start a serious cut to let all the hard work shine. Thats my problem though. Im addicted to the number I see on the scale. If it so much as fluctuates 3 pounds I feel like I've lost all my hard work and its the very reason I won't weigh myself after my morning weigh in. Knowing the number will be lower again when I wake up versus weighing later through the day messes with me mentally. How do you bros do it? How do I break my fixation on the scale number?

Create a fixation on a different but comparable number. Like your PRs. If you're losing weight but your PRs are climbing, then you know you're losing the right weight and not the gains you worked for.
Simple fix. Just stop overthinking & understand that nobody cares about what you weigh. It is how you look that matters.
Clothes make the man not the scale! Great work
Can’t really say anything that hasn’t been said already. The scale is one metric but can be easily skewed with water weight. Best to use a weekly average. Best time to weigh in is in the morning when you wake up preferably after a shit.
The mirror doesn’t lie regardless of your username. Watch for composition changes regardless of what the scale says.
@Jockstrap mentioned BF measurements.
@Milfpounder mentioned measurements in general.
@wanted gave you a great starting point for a cutting diet.
Also tell the chic in the first picture I said hi.
Man .. the feeling after a big old shit in the morning and then weighing and measuring. That's living life right there.
Satisfying to say the least!
If muscle mass is the ultimate goal then you need to completely shift your mindset for the diet phase to completely forget about the scale and just get as lean as possible. There’s a point when “bulking” where body fat has just gotten too high and your body starts to fight against you. Blood pressure is up and cardio gets worse which affects your ability to push it in the gym. Men with higher body fat levels tend to have more e2 conversion happening. Lipids are probably skewed more than necessary. And maybe most importantly your insulin sensitivity starts going to shit. Your fasted glucose is up and your body is no longer utilizing food efficiently. You end up in a state where all the food your pounding is more just making you fatter as opposed to building muscle. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Get lean, revamp your insulin sensitivity, recognize as you get leaner that you’re not going to be carrying as much muscle as you thought, and just get the job done so you can get back to growing in the most efficient manner possible.
3lbs is water or a big shit. Clothes are the tattle tale. As is bf testing.
Gainz411You might have the coolest username in eroids lol
60 pounds in 10 months? Holy shit. Good work!!
I’m fighting like hell and lucky to see half that.
I accredit it to doing things backwards. I didnt start working out until I started using gear. Stupid I know, but its the reason I was able to throw all that weight on. Im going to be fighting like hell to get through this cut once I do it though.
I think you’re in a great spot. But when you cut GO SLOW. Drop calories around 500 and start the 10,000 steps aday and 30 minutes cardio on workout days.
Switch some of your protein sources to a leaner version.
Thanks for that heads up. Im the kind of person that can easily cut calories down to practically nothing if need be. A more modest number like 500 would probably keep me from feeling defeated.
This might sound stupid… just don’t go on the scale.Once you start cutting the you are gonna like your new look even MORE!! So instead of scale, go off what your tag is.. the mirror.
Nice fucking job btw. You look good, glad dudes like have families
@Milfpounder
The ones with the shirt on more recent and im 238. The ones with out are when I was still 225-230.
Cuts gonna be great brother
Damn man congrats! Looking swole as hell. Definitely carrying a little puff on top, but I promise if you cut you have nothing to worry about, you will reveal some dense mass and vascularity. You have done a good job of packing some meat on.
I'd definitely focus hard on your lats and back while you cut it up. I mean really fuckin hammer the weighted pullups, pulldowns, rows, pullovers etc. You have potential for a massive V taper.
You're doing great tho man. Happy for you.
Gainz411Bro you gotta remember the scale is just one metric. If you’re cutting properly and keeping strength/performance high, you’re not losing your hard work. you’re uncovering it.
Daily fluctuations are mostly food volume, water, sodium, glycogen, digestion, etc. Not actual muscle loss. You didn’t build 58 lbs overnight and you won’t lose it overnight either.
What helped me was focusing more on mirror pics, waist measurement, strength in the gym, and weekly average weight instead of day-to-day numbers.
The goal isn’t to weigh the most. The goal is to look the best. Big difference.
Post some pics and get some feedback
You should base most of your results or lack therof on measuring yourself and comparing pics. Body weight does play a part in your general equation, but not nearly as much as what you look like and what your measurements are. Height/Weight charts go right out the window when you're putting on and enhanced amount of muscle
