Anybody take iron?

ad

I donated blood a few weeks ago and had a bad reaction recovering from it and since I'm on a low calorie diet, I picked up some 18mg Iron bisglycinate.

I dont think this should be a problem since its 100% of the daily recommended value + whatever I get from food under 1700 calories a day. I have some gut inflammation issues also and the last time I checked my iron/ferritin/capacity were all within normal range.

Anyone see any problems with this? Next blood draw is next Friday then again in a month or two.

I do. But i take it because my ferritin levels are really low without it. It's to the point where my hair sheds noticeably and i sleep like crap otherwise. I take the one linked below. It's upped my ferritin levels back into the normal range within a couple months.

Also take Thorne. They make great products.

Lil-Beirut's picture

Do you take it while on cycle?
I used to take methylfolate while off cycle and it was good stuff. Mood/libido ect.

Black90tsi's picture

Yup. All the time.

If your Bloodwork shows you have low Iron/Ferritin levels then you can take it mate, it can be to do with a variety of reasons. My Bloods showed very low ferritin and I got prescribed 200mg Ferrous Sulphate tabs for a few months for it. Obv don't take them forever though as it will cause Iron overload. My general multivitamin tablets has 14mg Iron sulphate as standard in them. I barely ever eat red meat so its probably why and I think at one point did have a stomach ulcer from taking too much anadrol years back. Can also be to do with kidney function too.

Lil-Beirut's picture

200mg? Damn that's a fat dose dude... id be concerned lol. Ill just keep an eye on dis bloodwork coming up. I dropped a lot of weight over the last few months then donated. Prolly had something to do with it.

Men should not take iron unless they are menstruating trans men.

Lil-Beirut's picture

Says who? What if your on a low calorie diet and donate? Fasting/retatrutide ect

Greg's picture

Healthy men should not take iron and it would be very difficult not to get the iron you need in your diet. Only 2% of men have issues with iron and they usually have ulcers or internal bleeding.

High iron from supplements in men can cause immediate side effects like nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, and constipation. Over time, or with a large overdose, excess iron can lead to iron overload (hemochromatosis), which damages organs like the liver (cirrhosis, liver cancer), heart (heart failure), and pancreas (diabetes), and can also cause joint pain and erectile dysfunction.

Taking iron supplements "just because" is a bad idea. Get tested first.

Lil-Beirut's picture

That takes weeks/months to get that level of toxicity/damage that youre describing.
18mg is a small dose - ill see what the labs say this Friday and post it here.

Greg's picture

Information bias at work. What part of immediate side effects did you not see or comprehend?

Yes, it's a good idea to get tested.

The problem with OTC supplements is the idea they are safe. You take iron, no apparent side effects 2 bottles of 90 pills later (6 months) you go for your physical bloods show elevated liver enzymes further test confirms Cirrhosis.

Fore warned is Fore armed.

Milfpounder's picture

Jesus Christ, cirrhosis from iron supplements? That's a real thing?

Id be so angry to get cirrhosis from iron supplements and not good old fashioned alcohol.

Lil-Beirut's picture

That takes months and months of hundreds of milligrams of iron... not 18mg a day with bloodwork.

Lil-Beirut's picture

I get blood work done almost every 6 weeks.

Information biased? Was just reading this:

https://www.eroids.com/forums/general/general-talk/iron-deficiency-and-i...

Foreskinned? What is that?

Greg's picture

In that post...

Now you know what it looks like. But a word of caution. If you see this in your bloods don’t try and fix it yourself. I know some guys here think that more is better and some knuckle head will just buy some iron and supplement on his own but understand to much iron can kill you quick. When on supplemental iron you need to be monitored by a Dr. It’s very toxic in large amounts.

My point is exactly that and I've repeated it constantly. Your posts suggests a careless, casualness that is dangerous. I said get tested. Your follow up posts say you're going to do just that.

Great.

But then you persist with defending the not very common exceptions in defense of of your position which gives the impression to a person just skimming the conversation thst supplements are fine and it would be extremely difficult to reach toxic levels and over a long time. Neither is true.

Indifference, a sense of "no big deal", normal levels plus supplements, equal easy path to toxicity. Something you won't see until it's too late.

You are unnecessarily defensive and unintentionally arguing for supplements.

"I was concerned, curious what others think, and am going to get bloods. I'm glad we're all in agreement, thanks guys".

Lil-Beirut's picture

I just needed a better answer and @press1 provided it with his experience. Seemed like you were getting defensive off the bat just to be honest. Both men and women get iron deficiency especially after donating blood like I did.. I know its fringe to talk about iron

Remember when it was fringe to talk about fasting and sema? Now everyones posting their pics of their retatrutide that just landed. I guess I been here too long. And yeah I take my health and supplements seriously. Im not worried about asking dumb questions or asking a lot of questions

Greg's picture

Off the bat I made a joke.
Off the bat you retorted, "Says who?

Who was defensive?

I explained my position and said get tested.

Lil-Beirut's picture

Says who: well I was thinkin that both men and women get anemia which is true especially after donating blood like I did. Then I asked a few more honest questions.. no defensiveness there - all good.

Doctors have prescribed iron to people on steroids who have crashed their ferritin by donating.. we know this.. I do ask a lot of questions dont take it like that. Once other people start throwing insults..well...

Especially when they are just repeating something you said .. just not original.

Greg's picture

I never argued it never happens and I consistently said get tested and fully supported doctor care.

Lil-Beirut's picture

It's in my post that I'm scheduled for a blood draw this friday.

Dude do what you want everyone here is telling you that taking Iron as a guy is a very bad idea. You can research it and look it up in fact the vitamins that are made for men do not have iron. Unless you are constantly bleeding, Iron is a bad idea to take.

No one cares. You asked a question, people gave you answers and you don’t like the.r answers, arguing with them, bickering. Do whatever you want.

If you dont have any good information to contribute or simply dont know, then why open your mouth?

Aggieguy's picture

Hell no I do not take Iron and really guys should not take Iron unless your have some other condition as we do not bleed like women do. In fact when I am blasting my iron is way too high and the only way to drop it is donating blood.

Lil-Beirut's picture

I bleed.... just not like women do haha

Lil-Beirut's picture

You can be on steroids and still have low iron/ferritin

Aggieguy's picture

Very rare, you would have to be bleeding all the time. You are either trolling or lacking some brain cells.

Show some respect and dont be so jumpy. Havent you read this:

Keep an open mind and dont be a follow the leader parrot. Learn to think for yourself.

Aggieguy's picture

Have you done blood work? Do you have those issues? You asked us a question we gave you an answer. Why the hell would you not do testing before taking Iron? You claim your iron levels were in normal range before and here you are taking Iron supplements, so that tells me lack of brain cells.

God damn ppl raging on this entire forum tonight hahahaha.

I did 1,700/day cals for a couple months recently. It's hard for your body to recover from anything in that much of a deficit. Regret it now based on how much strength I lost and now trying to gain back.

You're right man, i will calm down, I did take some extra T today because I started some Primo and Deca and I haven't been able to hit the gym tonight yet.
