Steroids for repair and recovery?
Hello and thanks for taking the time to read this post.
It's important that I inform you that I am not a bodybuilder and have no intention or desire to gain buckets of mass; I have great respect for the discipline and hard work that people who follow that path have/put in but I am just a regular and keen gym user, I enjoy looking lean/trim/healthy and there are certain connotations/associations that come with being huge that wouldn't be advantageous with respect to what I do in my working life.
So, I am looking to get in shape for the summer over the next 16 weeks or so. I have been in this situation many times before and have experienced some success in achieving this as a regular gym user: cardio, weights, diet; it's not that difficult to achieve with a bit of organisation and determination. However, I am now 33 and physically, my body is deteriorating; I can feel it, I am starting to get old and I'm not the specimen that I once was. I am stiff in the mornings (no laughing at the back.....), no longer as quick as I was, unable to recover from physical events as quickly and in all truth I am dreading putting my body through an intensive period of physical and dietary stress. What's more, over the past year or so, I have not been as active as I should have been although I have not blown up in weight as my diet has been pretty good in terms of calories consumed and I have taken off a few pounds over recent weeks with regimented dieting and not too much exercise.
With this in mind, I have considered whether or not it would be worth my while taking something to aid my repair and recovery and I have decided to follow this course of action. I have looked through previous posts etc but can't seem to find anybody in my exact situation which is:
Maintain my lean mass or even add a couple of pounds of it (no catabolism of muscle etc...)
Lose bodyfat (I know that steroids won't help to oxidise lipids but maintaining my lean mass will maintain a high metabolic rate...)
Perform plenty of cardio work (I need to repair and recover as quickly as possible in order to do this...)
Also, recommendations on: which substance(s) to use or a particular course to follow for something more 'therapeutic'? And, what concentrations/amounts/doses should I take.
I have not used before but am willing to administer orally and inject. I have considered an Anavar or Winstrol only cycle as these are the standard cutting steroids but adding some form of testosterone would seem like an appropriate action too given the hormone's natural inclination for protein synthesis and repair/recovery, however, I am not sure about the concentrations/amounts that I would need to take for a therapeutic cycle.
I appreciate that some will believe that this course of action is not necessary for me and maybe it isn't but still, I would prefer to take advantage of the pharmacological products that are available in order to make the process easier and better. Also, I'm an open-minded guy that would like to experience the effects of AAS first hand; I don't believe that these chemicals are the bogeyman that certain sections of society purport them to be. I do believe that in the future these products will be viewed with less cynicism and used on a much greater scale; Doctors wouldn't give them to kids and the dying if they were all that bad.......and so many women wouldn't be given the pill, too...
Thank you in advance for your input.

An interesting post about maximising the feel good factor as you age, I'm somewhat older than you at 58 and can definately say from my own and others in their 50's that a little added testosterone definately perks up your quality of life. Unfortunately as you say most doctors don't seem to understand the benefits and improvements TRT can bring. I also know someone who has begun GH therapy its only been a few weeks but he is very positive on the feel good factor although some may be psychological but has gained 2.5kg and reduced his fat levels after 2 weeks of therapy.
I certainly hope in the future doctors will be more open to supplementing our hormonal system to maximise longevity and quality of life,I doubt it will happen in time for me though.
@theshields, brother, we ask that you fill out your stats for a few reasons.
One, so we know where you're starting from and can better offer our experiences.
Also even more importantly, if there's a new visitor to this site and they see that your stats are similar to theirs, YOUR experiences can help THEM.
None of us walk this path alone. So we ask for that sort of "transparency" to help further the already immense body of knowledge that this site has accumulated.
I have sent you a friend request and I'm happy to chat with you anytime. I'm rooting for you, indeed.
Thanks zeus.
I have accepted your request and will pm.
All the best.

Apologies regarding my stats; I will endeavour to sort this out.
My post was also a general one concerning whether or not anybody had any knowledge of this type of cycle/therapy happening so it wasn't necessarily totally applicable to myself; just seeing if it is possible, putting the cat amongst the pigeons etc...
All the best, Rustyhooker.
I'm assuming it was you who negged me since it always is. Care to explain what was wrong with my advice or you just going to neg me for no reason once again
Edited this because apparently I'm a complete dumbass. I'm going to make sure and stay off whatever thread rusty is on so I don't piss him off by doing nothing.
To the op I sent you a FR if you have any questions I'm here to help brother
RustyhookerRead the forum. You see stats requested? Eroids is turning into a garbage can free for all. You aint new here.
Why don't you post real stats then? 1% body fat? If you are gonna jump peoples shit for stats then fix yours!
Rustyhooker1%....what are you tripping on. Lol
Thanks for fixing it. Now are you still 69 years old?
RustyhookerIm old as I wanbabe. Puss up a rope skeeter. Lol
You are a joke.
RustyhookerAt least two a day.
You're apparently pissing a lot more people than me off so I'm just going to let this go. People can just lie their asses off about their stats online so they usually mean nothing to me anyway as I don't believe them. I have no problem helping those who present themselves as intelligent and are willing to learn regardless of their genetics. Some fucking moron with no knowledge whatsoever can blow the hell up because mommy and daddy gave them the right base pairings for muscle. Not to mention the stats I've seen you tell people to get to before cycling are actually scientifically impossible naturally if you look up the fat free mass index. So if I feel I can help someone who's a good candidate in my eyes to not screw themselves up and reach their goals then I'm going to do that. And fuck me if thats such a terrible thing
Bro.................. are you going to drop this or what?
Yeah I'm done. PM help only from now on
Why not try a SARM like ostarine, you will get the benefit of a mild testosterone cycle minus the side effects, pinning and having to do a pct. Ostarine will improve mood, well being, aches and pains, recovery and put on some lean muscle, sounds about all the perks you are looking for in a PED.
I second that. It would be a good place to start with minimal risks. And if you accomplish your goals with it there will be no need to go further down the rabbit hole.
Thank you for your suggestion, hnd. I will definitely look into this.
All the best.
Rustyhookerwhat happened to no stats no service??? Shit, just post him up a fat tren drol stack then. Smh
bigmurphRusty you do know that there is a guy in another forum post saying that you have fake stats and have no knowledge and your not the only one. Have you seen this yet. Its actually the guy that posted right below me about the fake stats
RustyhookerHaven't seen it and really give 2 shits. Folks going against what the vets are trying to achieve will flat out get negged.
Have you seen that other steroid site where you git busted for posting a fake review and acting as a shill here?
Oh, but that would be drama right?
bigmurphI did post a fake review there not hrre and when I did that I was blasted on pain killers for my arm I have already explained and applogized to eroids and mg for doing that and I stopped posting for a week until I stopped taking the meds so my head would be right I don't understand why you seem like you don't like me im here to try and help I have never disrespected you and have stuck up for you when people are talking shit about you because I have respect for the fact that you are here for the community. I wasn't trying to draw out drama I was trying to let you know that someone was out there talking shit. Thats all. I will not let you know next time. When I first came around we actually talked in pm I don't know what I did that has you against me but I wish you weren't because when I heal I would really like to be able to get advice and feedback from you top guys.
Rusty is one in the handful of guys that i accept personal emails from...... i know exactly what he looks like face and all!.......... when anyone and i mean anyone! myself included puts as much time and effort into this board as rust ........... i will post a pic of my bare fkn ass.
Next time i see anyone giving rust a hard time or even the slightest dig i am give that person a Troll tag faster than he can blink........... im fkn sick of rusty bashing and i dont make false promises.
RustyhookerAppreciate that vike and catalyst.
Tough love. That's what you bring and that is why I respect ya brother. You actually offend no one they just take offense to the former. There is a time and place for head bustin and friendliness and you deliver accordingly...knuckles
I have to agree with all of that. Like the way he does it or not, it's all done very selflessly I promise you that in Rustys case and that makes him a vital part if the furniture here. One of few "real people" here that I consider a friend.
StevebDuh, of course he knows. Rusty sees everything posted here.
pewpcakewhy does it matter since so many stats are faked?
I can relate to what you're saying @theshields, but some valid points are made here... you can achieve "getting in shape" w/o gear. And there are plenty of ways to diet (e.g. alkaline diets, anti-inflammation diets), various supplements (e.g. fish oil, creatine, beta-alanine), therapies (e.g. massage, acupuncture, myo-fascial release), and alternative exercise (e.g. yoga, vibration plates) that one can administer to achieve a higher sense of well-being (believe me, I've tried almost all of them).
If your goal is to get to the next level, then you're considering going down this path. But I would suggest that there are very attainable physical tests that can be achieved w/o gear:
Run 1.5miles in 12mins or less
Deadlift 2x bodyweight
Squat 1.5x bodyweight
Bench Press 1.5x bodyweight
Standing Military Press 1x bodyweight
If you're not at this level, then you should work towards that first... when you achieve those baselines, it's very possible that you'll be pleased with your fitness & well-being. If you're still not pleased after that, and wanna level up... you will probably have done all of the research you'll need to at least begin the journey w/AAS.
My final suggestion is be 100 with everyone here. Be specific with your goals. You'll get the answers you're looking for. Cheers!
Dang bro,
You write like a highly intelligent man that emotionally struggles with the notion of being a plain old roid boy like so many of us are. The post twists shooting juice into almost a medically justified approach and use.
If you want to enjoy the benefits of juice then go ahead and juice. Climb down off the high mountain on which you are trying to survey the landscape and go get some rigs and pin.
Thanks for your reply.
There is no emotional struggle on my part. It is not something that I am in any turmoil over but if I am going to do this, I would like to be appraised of as much experience and advice as possible beforehand. Nobody that asks for advice/help does so from the vantage of a high mountain.....
See my reply to Makwa's comments for a lengthier take on my outlook concerning AASs/PEDs, if you're interested......I don't view them as inherently bad and I make no value judgement on anybody that does use them; each to their own.
I do sincerely believe that there is a medical/therapeutic basis at the heart of my decision to use AASs/PEDs given that it is to alleviate symptoms of the stress that I intend to put my body through and I have asked about this type of cycle/therapy, specifically, rather than one tailored to achieving greater muscle mass or increased strength etc. With this, I would be using far lesser dosages etc.
All the best, GearHead.
Bro, as you say gear compounds are indeed PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). That's what they are designed to do - increase strength, speed, endurance, muscle mass, etc. and so forth.
If your interest is confined to enhanced recovery primarily I would be looking to HGH, not AAS. But, even then, depending on diet, GH will increase mass and reduce body fat.
Thanks GearHead.
I have considered HGH but the prohibitive cost as well as the facts that other compounds are more widely available and more likely to be legitimate steered me away from that course of action.
Thank you for putting that a little more eloquently than I did.

+1 brother. This is an incredible, incredible "launching place" to "start learning."
bigmurphAlot of knowledge down there at the bottom of this post. I feel your pain you want to be in shape and its hard work. That hard work though is even harder when you take gear its not magical you get out of it what you put in. If you're ready to give it your all then you can think about running you seem like you have read alot and educated your self but what you talk about running tells me you haven't learned enough I would like to help you. But we would have to go over alot of things because I can't say yeah go ahead. I want you to know what you're doing before you do it the sides and consequences of not doing it right and so on. If say you were to run all the compounds you talk about are wrong for you yes they are cutting compounds but you don't need those. A first run with gear should always be just test with an ai and a proper pct protocol. I would like to post some links for you to read I have also sent a fr request accept it and I will help you. Your just not ready to run anything yet but we can get you there in some time. Give me a chance to help you do things right before you just say fuck it and just start running something that is going to really mess up your body and system.
Thank you for making the effort bigmurph, I appreciate it. I have accepted your request and look forward to taking on board your input.
All the best mate.
bigmurphI looked to see if you accepted and didn't see it are you sure you approved it
Yes mate, all done my end.
Thanks.
Thanks for the replies.
@Makwa The notion that I'm some sort of steroid junkie is laughable; I haven't taken them before. Like 99% of others that use this forum, I probably don't need to do this but I want to. Plenty of people chemically induce alterations in their serotonin or dopamine levels everyday and aren't labelled junkies. Cyclists train at higher altitudes and sleep in hyperbaric chambers to increase their EPO levels, are they junkies? All I'm looking to do is slightly increase the concentration of certain chemicals in my blood, like them. It's really no different, irrespective of any preconceived ideas that some might have.
@Tron Given the nature of the health system here in the UK and the fact that my Doctor has to complete medical assessment questionnaires for my employment (no blood/urine work other than diabetes checks but he has to inform of any substance misuse if it has been brought up in any treatment or discussion) I'm not comfortable bringing this subject up with him. What's more, if I were to bring it up with him, I doubt that he'd perform any test given that I lack the symptoms of suffering from low testosterone. As far as the NHS is concerned, I'd have to have a beard and a clitoris for my Dr to concern himself with my Test levels. Also, private medical professionals will relay information (and vice versa) to GPs.
@Catalyst I'm 6ft (on a good day.....haha), weigh 205lb and my body fat is 15% according to my digital scales. Please remember that I'm not looking to be huge or walking around with no organ adipose tissue. With respect to being a young guy, in terms of physical performance and wellbeing I have deteriorated as do most men at this age; that's a fact. I can't compete/train/endure/remain active as long as I once did, irrespective of whatever activity I undertake. I also suffered some degree of physical injury after a motorbike (it was a Yourban but that doesn't sound as exciting....) accident. I was never the same after it.....
To reiterate. I have an open mind towards AASs and am looking to garner anecdotal and informed opinion. The evidence indicates that they are advantageous when used right. I have no desire whatsoever to abuse these products; I want to use them entirely within reason for a short period of time to ameliorate what I'm doing. I do not have any desire to show off to women (I've been happily cohabiting with my Mrs for 7 years) and in my wide social group, there are no gym-bunnies apart from the two guys that teach PE. I did mention that I do not want the associations/connotations of what is labelled over here as being a "meathead". I'm a reasonable, professional, hard-working, well-rounded person; I am not psychologically damaged and/or seeking to feel and look superior to others.
Thanks for your time.
Click on the reply button next to the user that commented so the thread doesn't get cluttered. The guys that have commented are some of the most knowledgeable this site has to offer. They also have been burned out by people asking this same question a thousand times and when the op doesn't hear what they want it turns into a shitshow.
I apologise if I have burned people out. Is it the same question? If you are able to direct me to posts that ask the same question, relating to almost therapeutic cycles and low dosages not intended for large, competitive bodybuilders, I am more than happy to wade through them. However, I have been unable to find them. I apologise if that is a failure on my part. I'm sure the guys are knowledgable but they haven't yet imparted that knowledge to me. You are right; I didn't want to read what a couple of the posts had to say but that is because some, respectively, were condescending ("I'm laughing like **** here"), incorrect (A 33 year old's body is breaking down, testosterone levels drop and bodily functions peak before 30....) and in the case of one, a slur ("steroid junkie") based on fallacious preconceived wisdom that is inapplicable to me. Knowledge is great but it doesn't necessarily translate to reason, logic and rationality. I will reply individually in the future. Thank you.
Starting to sound like another steroid junkie. I need roids in order to workout and look good.......blah...blah...blah.
SeriousOpenfkne...No makwa, he doesn't sound like a junkie.
He sounds like a nice guy that is looking for advice about hormones on a, what is this place? Source site for hormones, with many things typed here on hormone use. Look tho here comes this junkie looking for advice on hormones here lol what a junkie, right?
Look at you 45, trt, been thru prep cycles. I mention prep cycles, well cause they are a when things get more unhealthy as far as hormone use is concerned.
this guy hasn't used and is asking for assistance and you of all people want to say "junkie". Kinda funny don't you think? Do you see where this doesn't make sense and you look like an asshole? He's 33 came here well spoken asking for help about hormones on a hormone site and this is your response....
I hope you can really think about what took place here, and find some answers for yourself. Asshole
Anyway to the op...
There's lots of info about starting a cycle, here and many other places also. My piece of info I will throw in for you is to try and get your bodyfat a lil bit lower before beginning this. Why? Well you'll look better, and then you add hormones and now you look even better. The body is in, we'll call it beast mode. So you add the hormones after when being lean and you'll just fill out great long as you know how to eat. Some say eating is the hardest part, I disagree it's easy. Just don't be a "junkie" and binge on shit all the time, ya know?
Like I said get that bodyfat down a bit more like 11 or 10. I'd do 9, but I've been on and don't really ever go above 9.
Start with some test. I say 300 mg a week. I personally don't like taking test high cause I'm not taking into taking nolva and all that caber and shit. Learn what's good for your body. If something gives you sides don't be afraid to just say fuck that compound and try something else. Why take anti cancer meds and shit, adding more chemicals and variations to deal with. Fuck that keep it simple use what works for you. Nothing is written in stone really. I don't use dbol cause it gives me nipple trouble. There's no really stepping stones, some will say 500mg test week first. Then do dbol on second cycle or whatever. Why? Idk... Fuck them. Learn learn read read some more. Good luck!!!!
Put up some real stats before you start dishing out advice.
He is throwing out tons of excuses on why he thinks he should start cycling and is looking for someone to agree with him so he can feel better about using. If you want to use steroids go ahead and use them, no point in making up a bunch of excuses hoping someone will agree with you so feel better about using them and feel justified in using them. Excuses are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. Give me goals and not excuses. that is the frame of mind you need to be in when deciding why to use AAS. I want to gain 15 lbs of muscle. I want to compete in a physique or BB show next year. Those are goals and not excuses. To many people just wanting to get in a little bit better shape or lose a little bit of fat, thinking the only way they can do it is with AAS. Now I will say it for 1001 time, steroids are not for getting into shape, they are to take it to the next level once you are in shape. People using them otherwise are steroid junkies in my mind because they are taking something that is totally unwarranted and unneeded. What ever happened to a little hard work in the gym and modifying diet. Oh wait, that takes too much work, I'll just take some drugs instead.
SeriousOpenfkne...So you feel justified? So your comfortable being a junkie?
I'm 5'9 133 lbs junkie cause I use too much juice
Tons of excuses? Wow....
I'm not looking to cut any corners whatsoever; I am more than happy to diet and train. And, with the greatest of respect, you should know full well that in order to derive the benefits of taking AASs/PEDs that it is imperative that those taking them train as hard as they normally do and improve their dietary intake in order to provide the respective chemical materials for protein synthesis/repair/recovery. This is not lost on me; I'm not labouring under the misapprehension that I can jab something miraculous into my gluteus maximus, sit on it all day eating pizza and look like Adonis after 12 weeks......You are entirely wrong to suggest otherwise and it appears that you might be jumping to conclusions.
It is a scientific fact that after the age of 30 or so, the body enters decline. Why not use the available pharmacological means to combat this whilst putting the body under significant and prolonged stress? It seems entirely reasonable and rational to me.
I do not know you and will more than likely never meet you. The idea that I'm seeking validation and assurance from faceless people that inhibit the internet is, quite frankly, ridiculous. I am looking for anecdotal insight and opinion, that is all, and I was under the impression that this is what this forum provides.
As far as justification is concerned, I believe that peer-reviewed scientific evidence suggests that I am justified in seeking to use these particular compounds/hormones for better repair and recovery. Why are they prescribed by medical professionals if this is not the case? As I pointed out initially, in the future, I sincerely believe that we will see a paradigm shift in terms of the public consensus about using such compounds/hormones. Inevitably, along with gene therapies, they will become commonplace, something that private medical treatment in the US is already seeing happen....
I find it incomprehensible that society positively views the mass consumption of the contraceptive pill, the female sex hormone, to prevent pregnancy (something that is totally unnatural in every biological respect....) when there are many more far less riskier methods of avoiding conception however, I am labelled an excuse-laden junkie when I look to reasonably increase my own concentration of the male sex hormone in order to stimulate protein synthesis in order to repair and recover after physical stress (something that the hormone does in its natural intended form.....).
As I stated originally; I have no desire whatsoever to compete in a physique show or achieve a specific quantifiable increase in lean body mass. I want to ameliorate and aid the process which I intend to undertake. We are not perfect organisms; far from it. Look at the laryngeal nerve (look at a giraffe's if you want to see how badly they're designed..). Why do some display atavistic traits? Why do we develop cancers? Why do so many develop faulty p53 and RB genes? In all honesty, we're put together pretty poorly. We are not made by design, nobody would intentionally make something so poor. Pharmacology can help us overcome this and I believe that it should be used to achieve this....
Who defines what is needed and warranted? Who decides what is the current level and what is the next level? When does the next level cease to exist? What is 'in shape'? I know plenty of people that have plenty of lean mass, low bodyfat and absolutely no cardiovascular capacity and therefore a poor VO2 max. I'm sure that I could make a strong case for your consumption of AASs as being far more unnecessary than mine given that you have used them on many more occasions that I have...but I respect your personal wishes. And, of course I can do this without taking AASs but so can you, surely?
I wish you all the best in your endeavours, Makwa.
