Someone asked me if steroids affect penile length. I wrote the following reply. Please let me know if you have anything to add; I'm curious about this topic.

This is a good question. I am not a doctor and will disregard the few rumors and anecdotes I've heard.

However, I will make 3 observations:

1. To state the obvious and get this obligatory fact out of the way -- anabolic-androgenic ("AA") steroid use DEFINITELY reduces testicle size in the short run and will either reduce it or (at best) leave it unchanged in the longer run. The best chance of it being unaffected is if steroid use is limited in length and intensity, has been discontinued for some time and effective "post-cycle therapy" (i.e. hCG, hMG, etc) is used under supervision of a physician.

2. While I can't don't have any medical evidence that AA steroids increase penile length, it's abundantly clear that many (if not all) AA steroids DO cause a dose/frequency-dependent increase the length and girth of the clitoris. Given that the clitoris and the penis are basically the same organ with opposite hormonal development, it does seem odd to me that the penis would not also be affected. Since AA steroids have many serious health risks and are widely abused, it seems intuitive that information on unwanted growth of the clitoris would be spread as a warning of risk whereas even IF steroids increased penile length, this information would not be as proactively distributed or as well-documented (since it's neither an unwanted effect or one that mainstream medicine would pursue in this way). So while I do not have evidence that AA steroids increase penile length, it seems logical that they MIGHT do so.

3. hCG and the related non-steroid hCM -- both of which cause lutenizing hormone to be released thus potentially increase endogenous testosterone -- are used to increase penile length in children and young adults with micropenis. The less severe the micropenis or hypogonadism the smaller the benefit, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that if used in the same amounts and frequencies as in the medical studies that there MIGHT be SOME penile length and volume increases for a healthy adult.
