Muscle Memory
Hi guys. I was recently talking in another forum, and the topic of muscle memory was brought up somehow. I was surprised how many very experienced people knew very little about it. Some people think that it is a myth. I have known about it and taken advantage of muscle memory for years for it has kept me in the
shape that I am in and will for years to come. I want to give a scientific explanation of what muscle memory is, how it effects bodybuilders and I want to hear from other people, what steroids are the best for retaining muscle and which ones aren't and how steroids can effect muscle memory.
Muscle muscle fibers are long, cylindrical cells that contain hundreds to thousands of little nuclei. The Nuclei in muscles are called myonuclei. The myonuclei are little control centers, allowing for the rapid, simultaneous, and coordinated growth and repair of muscle tissue. Bigger muscle fibers need more of these nuclei because each one can only support a small part of the total cell. That area of control
is called the myonuclear domain. Domain size is relatively constant under normal conditions, but it can increase or decrease depending on changes in muscle fiber size. For example, sustained muscle fiber growth requires the addition of new myonuclei by muscle stem cells or satellite cells. More myonuclei means more efficient growth and repair signals, which are required to adequately meet the growing cell’s needs. These myonuclei are the part of a muscle that are retained the longest. Even if your muscle undergoes some atrophy these myonuclei can be preserved, even during substantial periods of detraining and muscle mass loss. myonuclei control protein synthesis and the more you have, the more protein you are able to turn into muscle. The first effect training has on your muscles is not actually growth it’s to create more nuclei, which eventually facilitate the development of more tissue and build your muscles. Muscles are big and a few nuclei aren’t enough, which is why you need to wait to see those beginner’s gains where your
nuclei are playing catch up.
I find that for newbies to bodybuilding, putting on any muscle is very difficult, and I think that the lack of muscle memory is the number one reason why many people cannot start training and follow through without getting discouraged and or bored. I found for me playing sports was the best way for me to get into
bodybuilding and stick around because I already had developed some muscle memory before hand so when I started training my gains stuck around.
Now what I want to know from other people is how various steroids effect muscle memory. I know that some steroids retain gains better than others, so what is your favorite gear for retaining gains and I also want to
hear about any scientific facts that link steroids to muscle memory that I talked about above.
Ok thanks people hope we learn something.

I would have to disagree with the idea of muscle memory being the main culprit for newbies struggling to put muscle on. It seems that most newbies that struggle, its based on a lack of eating, resting and having their life structured like a bodybuilder as well as a lack of neuromuscular connection. the phrase "the honey moon" phase is commonly used to describe quick progress and gains that newbies can achieve since they are coming from such a low "baseline" of muscle mass.
In terms of drug usage playing a role within muscle memory, I would be surprised if you could locate any legitimate peer-reviewed research on the matter. I also doubt that it would have a very significant and repeatable pattern, especially from person to person. If you would simply ask, what compounds are you likely to keep a higher percentage of gains from, assuming rest/diet/pct/structure are all perfect, it would be the compounds that give you slower more consistent gains. In case I'm not being clear, and basing this on my experience, the compounds that give you the largest and fastest gain typically tend to be the ones you will lose a higher percentage of gains once you come off.
Thanks for your input. Yeah lack of eating and the structured life of a bodybuilder are major too.
