I am currently an active duty officer in the Navy and I can tell you that there are no routine tests for AAS abuse. AAS testing is a type of testing referred to as "command directed". There has to be reasonable suspicion that abuse is occurring. The testing is done by the same lab that tests collegiate athletes -- I believe UCLA. It costs over 1000.00 to test for exogenous testosterone as well as common AAS metabolites. It is VERY rarely done. The last reported case I could find was last year, which involved a female Marine who was a competitive bodybuilder. She received a slap on the wrist -- reduction in pay grade x2 (she was lower enlisted if I recall). Had this been an ellicit drug, she would have been separated with a prejudicial discharge.

Having an extremely high testosterone level (>1500) may tip off a provider, but testosterone levels are not part of a routine drug panel done when you join, throughout your career, or when you are discharged.

I had my blood work done before I EASed, don't think they'll check test levels, I think it's mainly to make sure you're healthy before the give you they send you on your way. Make sure there is no underlying medical issues that the VA will do didly squat for
