+ 1 Mayweather McGregor

ad

Anyone think Mayweather will sign?

McGregor has inked his contract so 1 side done, but Mayweather is only beginning negotiations and hesitant to commit

Hard to see him actually walking away from that kinda payday, but he has done it to Pacman before....

hmmmm

Engineereddisaster's picture

If you think someone is being nieve because they don't think McGregor has a shot then you have obviously never competed at a high level in any fighting sport and are therefore nieve in your nieve assumption.

We are talking about the art of boxing. Boxing rules and boxing skill set only. Mayweather is the master of that art.

McGregor has absolutely zero chance of winning that fight.

Take that to the bank.

giardap's picture

I competed amateur in boxing and MMA as a younger man
The one thing I learned quickly is that anyone can be beaten

Engineereddisaster's picture

Bro, Mayweather is a five division world champion, he has won 15 world titles and has been undefeated as a professional.
An over-hyped mick who's greatest accomplishment in the octagon was beating a stoned Nick Diaz who consequently kicked his ass in the previous fight... isn't going to step in the ring and do anything with the greatest defensive boxer in the sport.
If McGregor wins the entire sport of boxing is a complete sham, which perhaps it is. This fight would be a good gauge for that.
If the fight happens, I hope you'll watch and think of me as Mayweather dances around the ring hitting McGregor at will until he knocks McGregor out.

When it's over, you'll say to yourself, holy shit, maybe Ed knows what he's talking about.

giardap's picture

over-hyped mick?
What's with the racist comment??? I am Irish. Don't be a dick!

Re: Mayweather's accomplishments; there isn't a person alive that could detract from him. He is this generation's best ever.

Re: McGregor's accomplishments.... well Ed, fella.... he fought Nate Diaz, not Nick Diaz and even an armchair fan of MMA, would know that Nate didn't beat him in the first fight.... he beat himself (gas tank) - (Not to take anything from Nate as I am a massive diaz bros. fan). However, this is very much so relevant when you consider whether he has the gas to fight MM in boxing. I believe he will, but that's only one piece of the puzzle.... Mayweathers stamina, footwork and reflexes are 2nd to none.

You cannot write boxing off just because McGregor wins (if such a thing could happen). Mayweather is older now, definitely past peak anyway. McGregor poses a unique challenge, he could stay on the outside, and lead southpaw - he is also a counter puncher as well as a long range fighter which is absolutely a rare combo.... He has KO power which, come onnnnn.... can change ANY fight in seconds! He has height and reach advantage as well as weight. If you watch the pacman fight and see the 1-2's MM gets hit with, and his time in the corner and against the rope.... its hard not to see McG do similar but with devastating KO power????

So I am not saying Conor wins (although I will put money down that he does), but I am saying Foyd does not win definitively. This fight is wayyyyyyy more interesting than people give it credit, but yes of course it absolutely does have the potential to turn out like you reckon. Of course it does.... BUT..... there are unique factors that I would wager will mix it up!

I think it could come down to factors like gas tank, glove weight, and something a lot of people forget about for McGregor... small ring size...
hmmm!

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol. I thought your comment wreaked of the smell of potatoes. Smile
Sorry for insulting your people. If it helps, my favorite cold cereal is frosted Lucky Charms. That shit truly is magically delicious.
I do stand by my comment that he is over-hyped. He's got a shitty ground game and that will only take you so far in mma. I will say that he is a great promotor though. He can really talk a lot of shit and can really milk his paper championships.
Oh, sorry for confusing nick and nate Diaz. I typed that comment in my car. I know the difference, I promise.
Fact: Nate Diaz kicked his ass in the first fight. He took every single punch and then took his ass to the ground and planted him like the potato that he is. His heart failed him and his novice skill level on the ground is how he got his ass kicked.
I called the fight before hand right down to the round and finishing move.
I get it, you've gotta cheer for your boy because he's Irish. It still doesn't change the fact that he's going to get his ass kicked and would never be able to defend a boxing title if by some change he got a lucky knock out punch (which he won't)
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see an mma guy win a boxing match. Even if it is a bog-jumper...but it isn't going to happen.

giardap's picture

lol lucky charms, ffs!!!!
Smile

Look, Im a fight fan, before everything else... which is why is am a mayweather boxing fan too.. he is a scientist.

As for Nate... well let's be fair here... Nate got spanked by McG until he gassed... that's a fact. You should rewatch the fight, but not with an anti McGregor view or pro Nate view or whatever, just watch what happened as a fight fan, its fascinating, he gassed, way too fast of course, and that was all she wrote (everything beyond his gassing was academic), I think Nate hit him once with anything of any significance, but if you look closely, it wasn't the punch. You cannot say he lost heart... thats absolute NONSENSE!!! If you've ever competed and gassed out, you know what its like... everything shuts down, everything. It's difficult to even move your head to a new direction. One of the worst feelings ever and it's physiological... the mind doesnt control it, same with knockouts/bodyshots/liver hits... the brain shuts functions down to preserve life!!! I've been there, its horrific

McGregor has a good ground game. I am very familiar with his club, lets say, and their history is firmly BJJ oriented. Now that said, they didn't play on the ground. He gave up his back due to fatigue, nothing else...

Yeah I believe you man on calling the fight. I also called the fight and was abused from every corner for it! I called the round too and said it was either an armbar or rnc to finish. I also called the 2nd fight exactly as it happened, including the right left cross/right uppercuts. To me it was very clear as to what would happen. If they fight again, McG will still win.

But anyways, boxing... The Irish will gladly school you Americans in real fighting! Mightn't take too long either and certainly wouldnt be the first time!

Engineereddisaster's picture

School the Americans in real fighting...lol.
Show me an Irish champion in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions and you'll find my respect.
im just not that impressed by fighters who fight in weights that should be reserved for women.
But hey some guys are happy bench pressing plates...

giardap's picture

Wouldn't be hard Ed, we've been doing it for years! The Irish also had to build the country too, run the country and the police force as the natives weren't quite able.

Not many champs, the Irish were fairly tied up for a significant spell with civil war and war against our closest neighbours..... but over the years there have been several:

John Sullivan First heavyweight champ of the world!!!

Tyson Fury Heavy - beat Wladimir Klitschko 2015

Mike McTigue light-heavy 1923-25
George Gardner light-heavy 1903
Tom Sharkey Heavy 1896
Peter Maher heavy 1895
Paddy Ryan heavy 1880

As for the lower weights.... well yes we have plenty... but like you, I tend to lean towards the bigger lads! Hard to really, REALLY respect men that are 100lbs + lighter than you! also find it difficult to call them men, rather than boys! but hey!

Engineereddisaster's picture

Come on! I'd like to see something a little more recent. Not 200 years ago and you and I both know Tyson Fury is a Brit. Shit, I'm more Irish than he is. Smile

giardap's picture

Tyson Fury is Irish, end of story.
Allow me to quote the man:
“I think I have showed my true colours over the years. I vacated the British and Commonwealth titles, which some people say are more prestigious than the Irish title, but not to me. I vacated those belts for an Irish title shot because it meant more to me.”
“All my people are from Ireland."
"I am Irish. I have lived in Ireland, visited all my life and when I fight I represent Ireland. It means a lot to me.”

You might be interested in some of Tyson's recent statements and plans, should be a good fight:

How come true red white and blue America cannot produce a heavyweight champ worth anything??!!!!! A nation of how many hundred million???!!!

Engineereddisaster's picture

Fury pulled the Irish card so he could fight in the Olympics. Everyone knows that.
I hate to pull the Ali, Foreman, Tyson card but I will.

giardap's picture

Irish card - no such thing, you're either Irish or you are not
Smile

Tyson... in his prime... best that ever existed, better than anyone before, or after, to this day anyway

daksmack's picture

Well if the fight happens both sides will be "taking that to the bank."

You can compare different fights and what not, to different styles. Yes, Mayweather is the best of the best and how in the end world would an MMA fighter be able to actually win. It's all about the variables, Mayweather is getting older. He will spend his time running away from McGregor, like he does against any strong boxer. But McGregor is not going to return to make this fight last 12 rounds, he is going to go all out for a knockout, and he will get it, time catches everyone and it's his time.

As for your comment about experience in the fighting world, I practice bjj.

I personally don't think that age will be much of a factor. Couture was 47 when he fought Toney and Mayweather isn't that far in to retirement.
That being said, how long have you competitively practiced BJJ?
If you were to compete against Roger Gracie in a True bjj match how would you do?
How about Alexandre Ribeiro or Marcelo Garcia?
How about someone more current like Filipe Pena?

XmadXscientist's picture

McGregor is all about that counter left which is great in mma where you have basically no glove and only need one shot to end it. I don't think it will be so great when he's wearing hot air ballon sized gloves and the other guy has every tool imaginable and knows a thing or two about counter punches.

foutjes's picture

Hmm short comment but it made me think. I blindly go to floyd and booring.

But I loved sparring in boxing gloves and hated it with mma gloves. Way harder impact imo. Floyd aint a knockout artist either. So if mc gregor can actually hit him IF he has alot of time to do so.

Kinda want to compare it with ricky hatton vs floyd. Is mcg as good as ricky prolly not.. But he has reach punches and also counters , dont think he will need those tho :p.

And yeah floyd was retired, stayed in shape but Did he slow down with age? Mcg is in his prime floyd..

Livelife76's picture

Soon as money is the so is money Mayweather, will be a terrible fight. Mcgregor has much better fight options in idc right now, Ferguson would be a great fight!

But mcgregor may as well be money mcgregor bc let's face it he ain't trying to defend them belts he just wants to cash out not fight someone who can potentially beat him in mma but losing in boxing is ok bc money money money n it's to Mayweather so win win for him

I believe he loses the belt soon as he defends it and I like mcgregor he's just not focused enough in mma

foutjes's picture

I love boxing and mma but this.. Nope.. Its mayweather vs pac all over again. Dragging it out, all about money, and a shit fight. If he really wants to beat rocky's record and be better, he better puts on a show. Not giving it a dime :X

helloBrooklyn's picture

The Pac fight was a waste of my money. And of course I was the sucker who paid then people started calling me up left and right: "yo, I hear you're getting the fight?"

Sure… come on over… yeah

Jayzgainz's picture

Haha, you're my kind of friend, thats how I watch every fight! I will bring chow or at least offer a few $ though.

Balboa will never be beaten!!!!
lol... joke ;-)

foutjes's picture

Hahahahaha, Marciano ;D

333's picture

I think mayweather will sign like said below once the money is the right price I'm not defending mayweather at all but he is putting way more on the line a 49-0 undefeated career also depends on fight rules is it boxing or kick boxing or mma style

giardap's picture

agreed
yeah it is 100% boxing

They haven't negotiated on the gloves yet though, and that could well be a game changer,
Id say Mayweather will opt for 10 ounce whereas 8 would suit McGregor given he has lead-death in his left hand

helloBrooklyn's picture

A lot of people underestimate Mayweather. His defense and agility are hard to beat. Say what you want about him personally but he is a great fighter.

giardap's picture

He is a phenomenal fighter, and clearly one of the best ever at what he does

Where I see him troubled though, is in fighting a Southpaw... he's always had trouble there
McGregor is also a good counter puncher too, so it is hard to know where either lad will have a clear cut advantage

Its entirely possible the choice of gloves, as ridiculous as that sounds, could determine the fight

Jayzgainz's picture

Would love to see McGregor whoop his ass. Mayweather is a money grubbing asshole. He will sign as soon as all the $ he wants is there. Cannot wait until the day comes he gets his flapping jaw sewn shut.

giardap's picture

I agree 100%

I will be putting money on McGregor to win!

Livelife76's picture

You'll be losing that money too bud, Mayweather ain't losing any boxing match against any mma fighter, just not going down.

Only chance mcgregor would have (still slim) is if the use smaller gloves, but Mayweather is smart and likely won't allow this for that exact reason.

WelshNmad's picture

I think they will eventually sign but the fight will be absolute dog shit

giardap's picture

LOL

You reckon 1 sided or just shite in general?!

WelshNmad's picture

1 sided boxing lesson maybe late stoppage

Gettingbig's picture

Mayweather is a complete scumbag I've had some personal experience around him and you don't want to be around him. With him its all about the money if he says I want this much and they give it to him he will fight. If they don't he will tell them to f off.

I would like to see this fight and watch McGregor beat his ass. But Mayweather will win if they fight. He is just to fast.

giardap's picture

he really is a bit of a dirtbag
woman beater too
